Re: Hot Toys - MMS152 - Superman: 1/6th scale Superman Collectible Figure

Heres a wip paint up of a sosa sculpt.
I love it and prefer it to the original tbh.

I know the paint will not match up with hot toys aps, but the sculpt is a much better likeness.

It is of course a matter of taste but frankly the Sosa sculpt, while skillful, gives us a fugly Superman.
He picked up on the worst Chris Reeve features, just as a caricaturist would do.
IMO these characters and their interpretations as statues or figures are meant to accomplish two paradoxical things, look like their models and transcend them at the same time.
The Hot toys sculpt does just that.
A 100% movie accurate figure would look like an actor with a suit when what you want on your shelf is the character the actor plays.
There is a difference.

Couldn't have said it better.:goodpost: I think it also applies to the various "improvements" people are doing with other HT figs. New mouthpiece, different cape fabric, better paint -- spending more $ when it does little to no improvement. At least nothing anyone else would really notice without close scrutiny. But of course as you say, it is indeed a matter of taste.

Your entitled to your view but I don't agree.
I would like a perfect looking chris reeves superman or as close as I can get.
I don't want an idealised concept or to transcend the image just what it says on the tin.

Also your opinion.
If someone feels that it benefits their figure then why not?
Depends if you want a stock figure that everyone else has that your not 100 percent happy with, or you feel you can improve by modding.
It is a personal choice and one that can backfire or devalue the resale value of the figure.
Do what makes you happy:)

Re: Hot Toys - MMS152 - Superman: 1/6th scale Superman Collectible Figure

I don't think you need to point out what is and isn't someone's opinion, that much should be obvious.

My own opinion is that while this sculpt looks like a much older Christopher Reeve, it does not look more like Superman than the original HT sculpt. HT has this sculpt beat hands down if one is trying to capture the likeness of Supes from the first movie. Anyone can knock themselves out with a Google Image Search for Reeve in the first movie to compare.

Re: Hot Toys - MMS152 - Superman: 1/6th scale Superman Collectible Figure

im very very happy with the original ht product. if you want to modify your doll...its your money....

have fun and enjoy your hobby...

Re: Hot Toys - MMS152 - Superman: 1/6th scale Superman Collectible Figure

In this case I'm fine with the liberties HT took with the sculpt, but I am not much of a fan of the Joker 2.0 sculpt. I'd very much prefer a heath ledger with "makeup" on.

I can see this is a touchy subject as alot of people enjoy the hot toys sculpt.
Havn't got a problem with that, but it ain't superman to me.
The sosa sculpt is not perfect either and thats where I will leave it accept to say.

I do resent hot toys putting out a sculpt imo is not accurate considering the price.
If it was a brother's production figure you could forgive it not being spot on as the price difference is almost half in some cases.
Maybe this is not the place but I think more people should voice their negative opinions and decide with their wallets.

Saying that I bought this figure despite the niggles I have with the sculpt, so I guess I just shot myself in the foot:)
It is a great looking figure niggles and all, just hope someone cracks the sculpt.

I would say to this topic, you can't please everybody all the time, however I would think its rather unanimous that the hot toys figure has pleased most who bought it.

I am not the biggest Reeve fan there is, but it looks enough like him that i can't get enough of the four i have(Plus three extra facial sculpts i used on customs).
I respect people's right to be unhappy with a product. That's fair enough.
But i like the ones i have.

TBH i'm not even a big fan of superman as it is, I like superman and all but his not even near the top of my list of superheros. I did'nt jump on ordering the figure ether, I figured it would just be a pass for me. I ordered the ex from sideshow about 6 months after the release just as a what the heck purchese.

When I finally recevied the figure I was so blown away how epic it was, I bought a second figure just to keep mib.

All this from someone who less then a moderate fan:monkey1

Re: Hot Toys - MMS152 - Superman: 1/6th scale Superman Collectible Figure

i had to have this after seeing how awesome it was (even though everything else i own must fit into my nolanverse collection). bought an extra head too to make a clark. christopher reeve was a huge hero to me and even though i wouldn't normally have bought him, i think hot toys put out an amazing and fitting tribute.

others have said it and i agree: he's just a stunner in all of his elegant simplicity.

Re: Hot Toys - MMS152 - Superman: 1/6th scale Superman Collectible Figure

Seriously, anyone who is in doubt as to the quality of the HT sculpt, please, by all means, type "christopher reeve superman" into Google and then select the IMAGE option.

I'll say that I have an extremely critical eye and I feel the HT sculpt is excellent. There are a few details/changes that might make it even better, but they're not critical whatsoever.

Christopher Reeve *IS* Superman for me. It's the Superman of my childhood, having watched the movies as a kid and having been invested in books and magazines of the time. The character, the hero, is not necessarily one of my all-time favorites and I have never collected any Superman comics. But for nostalgia's sake this figure was a no brainer, and it's easily the most iconic product Hot Toys has ever released. Indiana Jones might be a close second, but let's not get into a discussion about that head sculpt now. ;)

Re: Hot Toys - MMS152 - Superman: 1/6th scale Superman Collectible Figure

Managed to snag a fortress base a couple of weeks back from a member here for $20.
Didn't come with the clear tube and grip stand, but i had one on the Goblin, so i have used that till i get a replacement sorted out.
I stuck it in a tub of boiling water and popped it open, then dremelled the mounts from the underside panel to give more room in there.
Then i drilled two holes at the base of each pillar of crystal and installed a 10-LED lighting system powered by a 9V battery. When it was fitted and a suitable switch found in my box of spares, i hooked it all up and sealed the base again.
Now the thing looks the business and really sets off my Superman shelf in my Detolf. I know i'm not the only one who has done this. Just posting pics of mine.

Looks great have you got a link to where you got the leds and bits?

It was a 10-LED RC set i got on Ebay. All super bright white 5MM LEDs.
It was all pre-wired and resistored up, with a 9V plug attached.
I only had to remove the bottom of the base and drill the holes.

Looks good I'm gunna do the same with a spare base I have might do an evil superman glow in the dark green base:)

Thats what i originally got the sosa head for after seeing elvis and ski do such a good job with it.
Still undecided which way I'll go might even use it to replace my supes head if I can paint it up better.

I did google and compare and just don't see what you see I guess.
I too was blown away with christopher reeves superman as a kid and still have alot of love for the films.
Don't want to dwell or troll but just bugs me so much.

Well if you do an Ebay search and don't find exactly what you want, if you find someone who makes *almost* what you want, contact them, and they might provide exactly what you need.

Are you talking head sculpt wise?
