Re: Hot Toys - MMS152 - Superman: 1/6th scale Superman Collectible Figure

actually, keaton bats was pretty cheesy then.

and i would argue that neither keaton, nicholson, bale, ledger, etc. invented nor perfected these roles. there are nearly 75 years worth of batman & joker interpretations. there will likely be 75+ more.

the next actor to play the joker doesn't need to "top" ledger. he just needs to make it his own.

which is why i am sure the new superman will be just fine in spite of the big shoes he's trying to fill. i know people gave routh a lot of crap, but he did just fine too.

Totally agree!!! And I think Routh did a stand up job. Didn't like the suit tho. Lol. A bit too dark, reminiscent of evil Supes in III.

Re: Hot Toys - MMS152 - Superman: 1/6th scale Superman Collectible Figure

All interpretations have merit - & room for critique.

One person's 'cheesy' is another's timeless. :)

There is no perfect.. or Conway. :lol

Re: Hot Toys - MMS152 - Superman: 1/6th scale Superman Collectible Figure

I don't find 89 Bats cheesy at all :dunno

I love the gothic Burton style.

That's funny. I got a DX10 body in the post a few days back and one of the first things i did was put a Routh suit on it with a Reeve head.
Ignore the black boots, but the first thing my Brother said when he saw it was: "Looks like Evil Superman".

maybe cheesy is too far. how about hammy?

eh. just not my cuppa.

* ~ * ~ * ~ *

meanwhile, my clark is now on suit number three, which i think will be the keeper once i get him on a new body. right now it's a little long in the pants and wide in the shoulders for the body he's got.

Where'd you get that Clark head sculpt?

That looks really good!

After I've done my Wayne, I'm having a go at putting a Clark together.

The problem Routh had was that he wasn't able to make the character his own at all. He was okay at being a Reeve impersonator somewhat but that was about it. He doesn't stand out as Superman at all. Superman Returns was basically Bryan Singer trying to make a sequel to a twenty eight year old movie which was just a terrible idea. The movie could have been a lot better had it just been it's own thing and not been trying to recapture the Reeve Superman films.

Batman (1989) I don't have a problem with. It's still a pretty fun movie and even though I don't like it as much as I once did it's cool to watch now and then. Batman Returns on the other hand I cannot stand. I really hate basically everything about it aside from Danny Elfman's score, some of the set designs, the improved Batsuit, and Michelle Pfeiffer being insanely hot as Selina/Catwoman.

it's ht's ~ i resculpted the hair (and yeah, the part is on the wrong side, but i was lazy).

thanks! yeah, my bruce is kinda sloppy in a polo and chinos at the moment. i just don't want to do the suit thing like everyone else. might get him a tux now that there are some nice ones coming out, but then again, i am sure everyone else will too ~ ha!

yup ~ singer made a bad choice and poor routh paid for it. he did a very nice job playing christopher reeve playing superman, but i agree: they shouldn't have tried.

i've tried, but i can't really think of anything i like about the burton franchise. catwoman's suit was pretty cool, i guess. again, it's just an interpretation i really really don't like. kinda like frank miller's "returns". i suppose i get the hype and so i see why other people love it, but it put me off the characters for so long i initially refused to see the first nolan movie. had to be dragged in by the ears.

glad i was.

Beautiful post! I couldn't agree more! :lecture:exactly:

can't blame Routh for that though. He did the best with what he was given. The movie still could've been a sequel to the Reeve films as it was intended to be but instead of doing the same old thing that Superman 1 pretty much did (Have Lex try to get land and all that), Singer could've/should've modeled Superman Returns after the series Superman: Brainiac. It was drawn like Reeve and took from the Donner world somewhat but still managed to be something new and exciting. Something like that would've made a much better movie if the idea was to continue with what Reeve and Donner had done already IMO

Re: Hot Toys - MMS152 - Superman: 1/6th scale Superman Collectible Figure

Just got this guy (for retail, just as he is going up) and I'm SO happy I did. But I have a question. I want to display him in a flying pose, but I'm worried about the clamp messing up his costume long term with a big dent or stretching it out or something. Has anyone had any issues with this?

What kind of pose?
Flying flat, or hovering above the base?

Re: Hot Toys - MMS152 - Superman: 1/6th scale Superman Collectible Figure

Hovering. With the clamp around his upper torso.

I have one hovering like that. There are very slight marks on the suit. But I expect they would smooth out eventually if he was removed from the base.
I am at work right now but I will take him down when I get home and take pics next to another Reeve figure to show you what it looks like.

Re: Hot Toys - MMS152 - Superman: 1/6th scale Superman Collectible Figure

Cool- as long as the marks go away and don't stretch/tear the suit. I had it on there for a bit and when I took it out there were already marks. And it had me a little worried given the thin material of the suit.

Well it may not be an issue.
I took him off the stand and although *i* can see the marks the stand made, it's hard for the camera to see them...
First pic is where the stand grips him.
The rest are of the figure off the stand. The one on the left of frame is the one which was on the stand. One on the right has no line. I only have the two of them here right now as my Brother borrowed the other two for diorama images.
If you can see the slight line on the pics, you have better eyesight than i do, and i have better than 20/20 in both eyes....
