Early pre production shot. He was only 22 here.

Just that picture alone shows why they picked him to play superman.

Re: Hot Toys - MMS152 - Superman: 1/6th scale Superman Collectible Figure

Reeve is the real Man of Steel.

Re: Hot Toys - MMS152 - Superman: 1/6th scale Superman Collectible Figure

Glad I picked this up before it sold out. If there's ever been a perfect actor to play a role or a perfect role for an actor, it's Reeve/Supes.

Couldnt agree more. I was fortunate to get it for $240 shipped for the exclusive version.

Re: Hot Toys - MMS152 - Superman: 1/6th scale Superman Collectible Figure

They should have used texture mapping to put Reeve's image onto a completely CGI Clark/Superman for the new movie. Man of Steel might turn out to be quite good, but I'm not expecting it to live up to the greatness that was Reeve's Superman when it debuted. That movie was EPIC at the time.

He was a handsome sonofa*****. Easy to see why women swooned over him.

And I say that as a straight guy!!!

Re: Hot Toys - MMS152 - Superman: 1/6th scale Superman Collectible Figure

Whoa, the Reeve-worship in this thread is starting to borderline creepy. I agree, he was a GREAT Superman actor and the first film (and the second) were amazing to me too when they came out. But he was just a man. He was an actor, and the concept of Superman is bigger than any one actor. I think it is really unfair to Henry Cavill (and all of the actors that are yet to play Superman), to start from the default position that they can never live up to Reeve's performance, before you even fully experience their take on the character.

It's one thing to judge actors as coming up short relative to Reeve's Superman after you've seen them act (Cain, Routh, Welling) but before? Let's give Cavill a chance and see what his and Snyder's version of the character is first. Wasn't one of the main criticisms of Singer/Routh's version that they tried too hard to replicate Donner/Reeve's version instead of doing their own thing?

Re: Hot Toys - MMS152 - Superman: 1/6th scale Superman Collectible Figure

I quite like Cahill as an actor, but from what I've seen of the trailer, my expectations aren't extremely high. Maybe that's a good thing and I'll be pleasantly surprised. But frankly I was hoping for a more down-to-earth interpretation sort of like Nolan's Batman. And I realize Goyer has written both screenplays. ;)

Re: Hot Toys - MMS152 - Superman: 1/6th scale Superman Collectible Figure

I read some interview...where the guy said that they made this world where other superheroes could inhabit it. I used to take that to mean that GL and WW were now possible, but I now think they meant that it's open unlike Nolan's Dark Knight Universe which was very down to earth. In other words, it's darker but it's not the Dark Knight's Superman, as similar as their development was.

Re: Hot Toys - MMS152 - Superman: 1/6th scale Superman Collectible Figure

I hope we're all pleasantly surprised too. Though I'm not sure what kind of down-to-earth interpretation you wanted from a story about an invulnerable super-strong, super-fast, alien that can fly and burn stuff with his eyes.

Re: Hot Toys - MMS152 - Superman: 1/6th scale Superman Collectible Figure

I love how Reeve was able to pull off the down-to-Earth All-American boy as Clark. There will never be another Superman in my book.

Re: Hot Toys - MMS152 - Superman: 1/6th scale Superman Collectible Figure

I didn't mean down-to-earth in terms of a more human Superman, more with respect to the things that are even harder to disbelieve. The Clark Kent identity for instance - it's always been implausible that anyone who saw Clark didn't recognize him as Superman immediately. Next, the costume. Blue and red? Today? Ok, they've darkened the blue, but it's still a bit too cartoonish. The cape? It would have been interesting to see something somewhat different. Who makes new costumes when old ones get beat up?

Maybe a lot of this will be addressed in the movie after all, we'll see next month.

People only think Clark Kent should be recognized as Superman because they're the audience and they're familiar with the idea of a secret identity. Well, in the world of Superman maybe that concept isn't around. I mean, he's the world's most powerful being. It's not exactly a logical conclusion to jump to to think he must have a day job where he just walks around like everyone else.

Sod it!! Move is taking ages so Superman has escaped the Phantom Zone (his blister box).

Coming at end of month: DX01 Joker (with spare TT body for cop outfit), Barney Ross from The Expendables and hopefully Rocky Balboa.

Wonderful collection sir! :hi5:

:exactly:

I'm giving Cavill a chance. I just hope MOS is good for the next generation like Reeve was for mine. :wink1:

Ok I see. Personally I don't have a problem with the material/color of the new costume or the all cloth and bright hues of the traditional design on the Reeve costume. If a guy's invincible, who cares if his costume doesn't provide any protection and calls attention to himself? Plus they could always go the comic route and explain that his costume is within his aura so it doesn't get damaged, while the cape does. Speaking of the cape, what would you like to be different about it? It's pretty different from the Reeve cape as it is already, with no yellow S shield, a different material and a much darker red tone.

I agree about the Clark Kent thing, but like you said, we've yet to see how they handle his secret identity. Reeve played up their personality differences well but still, anyone looking at him would know who he is. It is the lightest secret identity disguise in the history of comics, and as the decades go by, it gets harder and harder to swallow. With the popularity of contacts and lasik, I always wondered what they'd do in the comics if (when) we get to the point that eyeglasses were completely obsolete.

People only think Clark Kent should be recognized as Superman because they're the audience and they're familiar with the idea of a secret identity. There is that, too. Most superheroes wear a mask, so people naturally figure they are hiding their real identity. Superman flies around showing his face, so they naturally assume that's who he is 24/7. Most people that know of Superman (most of the planet) would not be trying to figure out who he *really* is because they [think they] know already. But Clark's friends and colleagues, people that see Clark Kent's face up close everyday...these are the ones that would naturally think..."Y'know, he's got an uncanny resemblance to Superman." Discovering his secret identity by accident this way...approaching it by stumbbling on Clark, and not from trying to figure out Superman, is completely plausible, and exactly how Lois does it in Superman II.
