I need to look for some of this tamiya paint ppl keep talking about. see how good it is first hand.

Also, @EKT: lovely pics and love the 2 piece shoulder pads.

I had a dodgy left shoulder, it was completely off, I didn't discover it until I removed the chest armor to have a poke around. I decided to fix it and in doing so ended up taking the entire figure to pieces.

Cut and separated the shoulder pads, shortened the elastic strips and kevlar connectors, makes a massive improvement.
Took the body suit off and removed the under padding. At last no more thunder thighs, very happy to learn that he suit fits just fine without the padding. And added my combo modded DX02/DX12 boots (another mod for you mags).

Pretty happy with him now at last. The only thing I haven't done is the chest logo straightening. Mine is glued waay to tight to do it, but that never really bothered me anyway.
By the way if anyone thinks they have damaged the Kevlar parts (I've noticed a few "stress" marks on some people's pics" there is a very easy fix, it's not a permanent problem.

i did the same thing..taking out the padding but i decided to put the body padding back so the belt fits nice there..without it..the belt is too loose...left the padding on the calves too

no more thunder thighs

Looks great man.
I really liked the look of the slimed down ab area without the padding, I thought it looks more movie accurate, i put a very thin layer of foam instead on the abs. To fix the belt i removed one link from the back, it fits perfectly now, and is invisible. But either way, getting rid of the padding in the thighs looks just awesome.

I took off the chest armor piece. Then you need to cut the fabric somewhere it's not noticed, there is a perfect place behind the central "spine" armor. I sliced down, then shimmied the outfit down, you have to be very careful not to break any of the rib connectors (little internal discs which secure the outer hard plastic ribs) there is some glue involved, I used a modelling tool to reach down underneath suit as I pulled. So no damage to the suit at all. The I pulled out the under suit. The glued seam is completely invisible (and under armor).

By the way the shoulder joints on this and DX Luke skywalker are ridiculously fragile, one tiny stub keeps the entire arm on, I have had problems with both figures, and in all my years collecting HT these are the only two this has happened with. I ended up replacing bats shoulder joint with a spare skywalker joint they are identical.

thanks for the help, man. much appreciated. didn't even think about the spine :slap my only question now is did you glue the fabric to the truetype, the spine armor piece, or just glue the edges together? i've got a few ideas of my own but i want to know what's worked for you so i have more options. i'll post pics when i finally get around to doing this. in the meantime, here's a helpful link to anyone else attempting this: https://www.onesixthwarriors.com/fo...n/659402-naked-batman-dx12-deconstructed.html

So this is all modded DX12 stock except for boots which are a custom mix of DX 02 rubber tops and DX12 shoe/feet. I tore it to pieces, cut it up and did every mod I could think of. Two biggest changes IMO, taking out undersuit and widened cowl.

How'd you widen the cowl?

Took everything out (PERS/PERS plate, neck support, magnet holders etc.)
Basically a hollowed cowl. I thinned out (dremmeled) the inside a little more, used boiling water and reshaped it, it's subtle but noticable IMO. looks a little bit more like there is a head inside? The cowl gets pretty soft when heated.

Thanks - it looks superb. I actually thought it was the medi head in the first pic. I'll have a go. The DX cowl appears to have lots of potential.

Yeah, likewise, I thought it was the Medi at first with a different face plate. Nice work!

I've managed to take all the innards out of the sculpt - cept the eyes - and trying to make it wider. It's pretty flexible.

If I want to take out the padding from just the legs, can I open up the seam at the waist and remove it, or do I need to open up the whole thing like Rorywan did?

Yes that's what I did, but it's essential that you that PERS plate out before heating, it is made of very soft vinyl and will be damaged by excessive heat. The cowl itself is a lot more pliable.

Many thanks - I've placed a large pen lid in there to widen the cowl and it is currently sitting in the freezer. I've not used any heat.

Hopefully it should work.

I've also found a magnet which sits nicely in the cowl.

Yours is the best DX cowl I've seen - are you getting Robbie's faceplate? And how did you add the eyelids?

In Daggett voice:

How the hell do you take pics like that with your iPhone? I mean are you tweaking the settings, using a tripod??

Looks great though man :clap

I've taken a step back from modding my DX12 right now

PS: I'm seriously asking about the pics though. Mine always come out grainy and I dunno why when you're getting such good pics using the same device.

Actually the pic against white isn't an iPhone pic, the others are, I edited my post and added that. I find the IP5 takes great pics? There are lots of "lens" apps which really help focus and depth of field.

Anyway thanks for the positive reply.

Thanks man, yes I'm getting Robbies face, I'm reserving judgement until I see it in hand, I have mixed feelings about it, as cool as it is, love Robbies stuff. I have another plan in mind when I get a chance.

And you asked about sculpting eyelids. I still believe the cleanest way to do it is to remove the entire Pers plate. I want the eyelids to look like they come like that from HT, I'm never happy if something looks handmade. So to create really finely detailed smooth lids I use black miliput (no paint required) and an incredibly fine grade of sandpaper. You can work on the eyes without worry about scratching or marking the cowl.

Best of luck with the cowl by the way, post some pics when you are happy with it.
