Re: Molecule8 (New company)

What Molecule 8 is doing right now is very similar to what Enterbay did back in the day with the first Game of Death Bruce Lee figure.

At the time, it was also limited in production, came out with the "innovated" eyes to switch out, a real wood diorama with serial numbers and production number certificate. It was also slightly more then double the price of a Hot Toy back in the day. They wanted to differentiate their product, and make it more high end, and I think JC Hong also contributed on paint apps as well.

The only similar problem is... we don't know what the end product is going to look like. EB's first figure (although was better then an average HT back in the day) was also weaker then the original prototype, which I worry might be the case here. However, there are many instances where companies have hit it outta the park on the first figure. Blitzway (Scarface), Storm Toys (Dennis Rodman), and Star Ace (Harry Potter & Steve McQueen) come to mind.

I'm ok with the price point too if they deliver. Its always nice to have pieces in your collection most other people don't have. Especially if its a figure of someone you like. Only downside is (like when Neca produced a Lennon figure), that this will be a stand alone, and is not part of the Beatle IP, hence no Paul, Ringo or George. I'm very likely getting one !

Re: Molecule8 (New company)

This one is going up for pre-order without a prototype picture...one cannot even speculate whether it will be as good as the prototype because there isn't one...this is definitely different, but not good different...

So you keep insisting... And insisting... And insisting....

So you keep insisting... And insisting... And insisting....

Well, he's right to insist.

Inactive Facebook and Twitter account? Only thing we've seen so far is ONE proto headsculpt and 3D renders. No clothing set, no body except that fancy skeleton (how does it work? Why does it need a skull?). They say they are settled in four cities (London, Tokyo, Hong Kong and L.A.), yet they've never been to any toy shows and don't have a showroom. May 2017 release? What?

I get the hype, i get that you're protected by PayPal, but damn you must REALLY like John Lennon to throw 300$ to a company that can't even show a full figure. People don't even want to PO some Hot Toys until they see in-hand pics. I mean, go for it bud. I'd like to have your faith.

I run a business and everytime i receive an email from a new telecom company saying it wants to change the world and offers me something just too great to be true, i just mark it as spam and delete it. Don't get me wrong, i'd like it for them to be legit and everything, but they need to do their homework if they want to be taken seriously. Hire a sales rep or something. Build a solid and complete folio.

Getting nervous about your investment....?

Nope. Just annoyed with your constant fear mongering. That was the point piper was making.

I don't feel like my order is at risk, but you sure seem obsessed with trying to make others feel that way. Just an observation. You have the right to express yourself (over and over, I suppose).

So? If you feel like you can't trust them, then don't send money. I have seen far more expensive customs on here paid for by deposit with far less info and no one bats an eyelid.

Re: Molecule8 (New company)

I think it's a good idea to let folks know about the potential pitfalls here. Particularly if they haven't been collecting long, haven't been burned somehow, and/or haven't followed the way upstart companies/custom operations sometimes operate. But you never know. If the edition size ends up being really small, or if they end up raising the price for later pre-orders, then those who order early could end up looking like the ones with the foresight here.

I'm a massive Beatles fan, and want this. But personally, I'm holding off until we get more information. Hopefully they will work with another distributor so you don't have to order directly from them and pay them upfront for it. Because as Dresky says, experience has taught me that until someone builds up a portfolio, I don't trust them with my money. Sometimes that means I miss out, but everyone has their own risk/reward calculation to consider.

Well...you could always put me on ignore...personally though, if I feel like I have made a good personal decision the opinions of strangers on the internet usually do not upset me...so feel good about your decision and don't worry about my dissenting opinion of it. Who knows maybe you will get the last laugh when you post some amazing pictures of your John Lennon figure...I don't think so, but believe me I would prefer to be wrong :)

Re: Molecule8 (New company)

It is a lot to front to a new company that has pretty much no history, but eh PayPal protects you, so play ball.

Pretty much what i think. We tell our kids not to take candies from strangers. For me it's the same thing.

I don't get why some are so aggressively defending a company they don't even know, that never released anything, like you have shares in it or something.

Good for you if it works out, but there's nothing wrong in being suspicious.

Re: Molecule8 (New company)

I think it's the inane repetitive posts that gets boring and annoying, not the one or two posts that highlight potential pitfalls to newbies. There's a HUGE difference.

Will there be apologies for the rudeness when proven wrong?

Good idea, jal76, blocked :lol

Re: Molecule8 (New company)

If you use Paypal with their payment protection there is no risk presumably. I agree in being cautious, I certainly wouldn't consider any other payment method if I was interested in this figure. Will be keeping a keen eye on this in case I'm interested in their future offerings.

Sometimes you just wish people (from both sides in this case) would be more passionate for other, more important things lol.

Personally, i hope it works because of the LotR line (they aquired the license legitly? Anyone knows?). Not sure i'd pay that much yet, but if they do beat what Asmus offers right now, i'm open to it.

It's just that i've seen people go crazy like "ZOMG LOOK A NEW COMPANY DO CRAZY LOTR STUFF"... Calm down now... Please... I don't see the hype train. The rails aren't even built yet.

There's nothing wrong with passion - it's one of the most important things in the world - and I don't think there's anything wrong with people getting excited if they want to. Why not?

The company has some very slick renders. They obviously have hired some talent. They may or may not have those big licenses, only time will tell.

Hope for the best and good luck to them.

Re: Molecule8 (New company)

Getting nervous about your investment....?

I have no financial investment in this product or company (and I'm sure PT isn't worried about his). I have no intention of pre-ordering anything shown so far. But the repetitive posts are are a waste of time/effort. No one comes in here to read that. No one needs you to be Captain Obvious regurgitating the basic situation that absolutely everyone has always been aware of - especially without making any kind of point.

As Anx just recently posted, it's simply INANE.

Re: Molecule8 (New company)

Giving them the benefit of the doubt (oh, and my $299) but I wrote them yesterday (and PM'd through Instagram twice now) and haven't recieved any response. I understand if you're a new company and just getting started but they really shouldn't come out of the gate - asking for full payment of a figure you only have a sculpt for, as nice as it is - and not have some customer service up and running.
