Re: Molecule8 - 1/6th Scale John Lennon

In fairness no one on this thread got screwed over...KA Kim got screwed over...there were a bunch of good Samaritans dealing out some sage advice to try to prevent their fellow fans from getting screwed over as I recall...

How exactly did the sculptor get screwed over? Did they not pay her? Seems like they knew exactly who to hire to suck in a bunch of her fans and get them hooked on the project. No one is going to blame her for Molecules failure to produce, or at least they shouldn't. I doubt this situation does anything to tarnish her reputation unless she continues working with them after the backlash.

Of course it won't tarnish her reputation and I imagine that her check probably cleared...I am also sure that creating the work was probably about more than a paycheck (which she can get anywhere). As she was investing her time and energy into the piece, probably turning down work from other companies, she no doubt imagined that the end result would be a successfully produced figure that would generate buzz and be something to be proud of at the end of the day...she was probably also not looking to have her head sculpt, and name, used as bait to get people to pay for a non-existent product...sometimes artists are looking to create something more than a paycheck...that's exactly how she got screwed over.

Re: Molecule8 - 1/6th Scale John Lennon

Her Facebook is a sea of Molecule8 posts. She was promoting Lennon hard.

It's not as though she just did the sculpt and moved on, she invested herself into this figure.

And Molecule8 have pretty much used her, and treated everyone with disdain.

poor kim, i think she's innocent in this lennon saga. molecule 8 used her!

Re: Molecule8 - 1/6th Scale John Lennon

So they tease about a figure of John Lennon who sang a song called "Imagine."

And then they tease about a figure of Willy Wonka who sang a song called "Pure Imagination."

I sense a trend here. :lol

See Turd on page 6.

He was like the old guy in horror movies who warns the kids (to no avail) not to go any further up the road.

So which figure are they going to put up for PO and NOT do next?

I'm still a little surprised they pulled so many seasoned collectors in to begin with. If you have been following this stuff for any length of time, you'd know the timetable they gave was impossible. Smoke and mirrors.

Re: Molecule8 - 1/6th Scale John Lennon

So guys, based on the missed Sept 27th promise and no new news whatsoever do you think this figure ever sees the light of day?

... do you think this figure ever sees the light of day?

That does become the question.

There's three options here:

1) it takes a long time but you eventually get a figure
2) in order to legally deliver something, you get a terrible figure
3) Molecule8 goes bankrupt

As far as those who say "well they have to deliver something to their retailers", go look up Sculpt Art's President Nixon figure -- it was on preorder for several years and then simply cancelled (as the Timewalker Toys link shows). So it can happen.

Re: Molecule8 - 1/6th Scale John Lennon

I expect nothing. Which is what we've gotten so far. At least they're consistent.

Re: Molecule8 - 1/6th Scale John Lennon

It's.....time to let this one go champ.

I have no horse in the race here, I don't even have him on order. I was merely asking people's opinion. It seemed like a scam from me from the beginning.

See, I don't think it was a scam. I think they intended to produce "something." The problem was their approach. They overestimated their abilities and their knowledge of this hobby.

Re: Molecule8 - 1/6th Scale John Lennon

Agree with the last few statements. I think they severely underestimated the manufacturing process and the way licensing works etc Just because you want to be the next level of innovation doesn't
Mean you can be when you are beholden to the regular way the industry works.
Molecule 8 can say they want this or that and in order to get the business the factory will say "sure no problem" but then once they get the contract they can half ass it or simply say "well we tried but you won't get what you want, you will get this instead"
This could have happened at many points during the manufacturing process and the game changing figure M8 wanted to make is looking way more like a regular 1/6 scale figure by the end, simply because they are at the mercy of the actual factories who produce the parts.
For example they could have had one artist make a pair of prototype glasses, they then sent those to a factory for mass production but by the time they recieved the final product back they look like the terrible things we saw at that convention a few
Months ago. They then have to try and get a new batch made and if the factory aren't able to deliver what they want they then have to look for another factory who will be able to do it. This would then roll on and on with several different parts of the figure until M8 find themselves with what looks like an unlicensed figure with a ton of ****** accessories and thus their cycle restarts or the money runs out. Still can't believe they have stayed quiet on this for 3 days without properly explaining what is going on considering they claimed to want to be transparent and show people the whole process. Shocking.
