Yup I made a comment on my 1:6 profile about how I felt they needed to be straight with us - shortly after I got blocked from making comments.
Pretty low given I was supporting them.
Man that's poor customer relations.
Weren't they giving you insider knowledge at one point to placate you?l

Wasn't so much inside info but more my UK supplier I think even he's now fed up.
Luckily I'm only blocked on my 1:6 profile so my personal one I can still see but still they sure now how to bury their company before it's even begun.

They could have played this a lot better, even if there isn't actually a figure they should be sweet talking their customers till the sun don't shine.
No photos is a hard fact to dismiss so there's got to be something seriously wrong their end.
I hope this works out for you, and your supplier. I really don't want anyone losing money to these clowns.

Re: Molecule8 - 1/6th Scale John Lennon

With every missed ship date, I feel the odds of M8 quietly disappearing without ever releasing a figure increase tenfold.

Re: Molecule8 - 1/6th Scale John Lennon

I am just curious why Lennon estate would allow a company like m8 doing dirty tricks in the name of Lennon for that long. although no matter how m8 end up won't damage john's reputation a bit, but Yoko should have done something to stop it long ago!

License money talks

Re: Molecule8 - 1/6th Scale John Lennon

but I am quite sure yoko is in no way short of money. how much is the license fee? 50k? it means nothing to her.

Re: Molecule8 - 1/6th Scale John Lennon

She probably hasn’t been paid yet. That’s not how licensing works. People somehow always assume that these toy companies pay up front to the license holder to manufacture a product, but they don’t. The original license holder (in this case the Lennon estate/Yoko and family) negotiate a percentage of the profits after sales, and generally the manufacturer (M8), gets the bulk of that profit to cover costs (artists, production, etc) and still make a profit. I’ve never heard of a contract where the manufacturer had to pay up front to the license holder. At this point it is highly unlikely Yoko’s received one dime. The same applies to companies like HT.

You've never heard of upfront money? You can't be serious. Sorry, but what you said is not correct. It's often called a "signing bonus". Most of the negations/contracts are about advance vs royalty + percentage, with royalty percentage winning out most of the time, granted.

However, it's in no way royalty over upfront money 100% of the time and down to the individual deals and available assets. Not sure where you got your info. Depending on the license and circumstances involved, a retention or an advance of sorts can be needed to hold the license for a set time until production and sales commence.

Yoko has a well-known license/likeness rights, so she may well have negotiated an advance/retention/signing bonus because she won't want an unknown company holding the 1/6 license for 2+years without something in return. To say Yoko hasn't had money is just guessing, as we'll never know, but I'd be surprised if she didn't want at least something upfront because her perceived value of Lennon would be higher than anyone else's.

I don't think M8 are deliberately scamming or planned to scam, I personally think they are just a very poorly run company by someone who clearly doesn't know what he's doing.

I know for a fact that popular licenses such as Spider-Man or Batman or licensing real cars or guns for movies or video games requires a fee (it might be different for toys). The less popular the license, the lower the payment. Lennon was probably cheap unlike Marvel or Star Wars which would be very pricey.

Yeah, exactly. But, like I said, Yoko's perceived value will be higher than anyone else's, so they probably had fun negotiating her down :lol We'll never know for sure.

Totally incorrect.

99.9% of the time, licensors are paid up front.

Re: Molecule8 - 1/6th Scale John Lennon

Either way the money from the pre orders went on securing the licence, and the pitiful amount that was left was spent throwing those prototypes together.
