Re: Witch-king / Lord of the Nazgul PF! Order NOW through the banner!.

:lol True, that's just the way us collectors are i guess.

And as to the flames, no-one even mentioned preferring one companies flames over another companies flames..... that's probably the most stupid argument you can have! The SSW balrog was just an example. I think the only pieces with sculpted flames i have are the 'baby balrog' and the Sideshow diorama, but i'm not a big fan of the translucent flames.

Re: Witch-king / Lord of the Nazgul PF! Order NOW through the banner!.

As for the translucent flames, to each their own as it really does come down to preference, but they look great on the LSB Balrog bust. The flaming sword just wasn't a must have exclusive for me, as I don't think it played a huge part in the films, and is tough to represent as a sculpture. I would have rather seen Dernhelm's crushed shield or helmet on the base, something to suggest or connect to the conflict with Eowyn.

That being said, if and when Eowyn comes along as PF, I hope it isn't in her Rohan armored disguise, as her other costumes and dresses would really lend themselves to PF treatment. I wouldn't want to have two PF's tied together for display like the SSW Witchking/Eowyn were, as it is nice to move things around and rearrange them from time to time. When I had the SSW Witchking and Eowyn, I was always trying to shoehorn them in to fit together, given the staging/scenic nature of the statues. Just my preference for the PF's though, as they seem much more stand alone as pieces.

Has it been 21 days yet? I would love to see if my regular order through Alter Ego is part of the first shipment!

The flaming sword is kinda salt in the wound for me, as PJ and co really mucked the EE scene with Gandalf's staff breaking. :gah: :slap Nevertheless, I prefer the EX in the long run; even in the case of something so odd -- guess I'm just like that.

I don't particularly care for the flames on the piece though, and really don't like the LSB or dio (but that is more because they mixed the more traditional and the translucent - oh and Gandalf is really wonky looking). I think the best flames I have seen as far as the translucent type are concerned would be on the Ghost Rider maquettes.

This more than anything is why I don't have any interest in the exclusive. The way that this is handled in the book is amazing, and on the film it felt more like an afterthought. If you hadn't read the book, the confrontation and the breaking of Gandalf's staff has almost zero impact on the way the rest of the story plays out.

But which is worse - The ML/Gandalf confrontation or elves at Helm's Deep? :dunno :gah: :lol

Re: Witch-king / Lord of the Nazgul PF! Order NOW through the banner!.

For me, the Elves at Helm's Deep were far less bothersome. I read that ML/Gandalf showdown as such a huge event, and that all hope felt lost when Gandalf's staff was broken...

I am more bothered by the lack of Eowyn's heroics in the glittering caves at Helm's Deep. I know one of the early trailers had footage that looked like it would have come from that scene in the book too.:(

It has been 9 days since the 22 day notice that Isildur's Bane received his notice, so I would guess we'll see the Witchking on our shelves by the end of January!

Re: Witch-king / Lord of the Nazgul PF! Order NOW through the banner!.

anyone else notice that the new SW emperor pf will have articulation, but they obviously decided not to make this pf with articulation :gah:

Re: Witch-king / Lord of the Nazgul PF! Order NOW through the banner!.

I did see the limited articulation for Palpatine and the Droids. I hope that this advancement makes its way into other lines. Gimli with some poseablity with the multiple axes would make some great display options!

Yeah, great addition IMHO :clap. Look forward to seeing it as part of the LOTR PF line some day. I am sure it will be quite limited in articulation though...but still a good thing :clap I think. Could have been the answer to the odd pose with the up and coming ML PF.

Re: Witch-king / Lord of the Nazgul PF! Order NOW through the banner!.

The ML's flaming sword excl. is the only LOTR PF excl. that doesn't fit with the specific scene the character finds himself in, which is the biggest problem I have with it.....not to mention it also looks awful IMO. I guess we could argue the Berserker excl. wasn't anything we ever saw on screen, but I think we can all reasonably expect something like that certainly would have occurred at Helm's Deep. And I think if some of PJ's interviews are any indication, we definitely would have seen this type of brutality at Helm's Deep had he not had to worry about the PG-13 rating New Line insisted upon.

How did it play out in the books if you don't mind me asking? Just curious.

:exactly: Exclusive should have been something better

"In rode the lord of the Nazgul, under the archway that no enemy ever yet had passed, and all fled before his face.
All save one. There waiting, silent and still in the space before the gate, sat Gandalf upon Shadowfax: Shadowfax who alone among the free horses of the earth endured the terror, unmoving, steadfast as a graven image in Rath Dinen.
'You cannot enter here,' said Gandalf, and the huge shadow halted. 'Go back to the abyss prepared for you! Go back! Fall into the nothingness that awaits you and your master. Go!'
The Black Rider threw back his hood, and behold! he had a kingly crown; and yet upon no head visible was it set. The red fires shone between it and the mantled shoulders vast and dark. From a mouth unseen there came a deadly laughter.
'Old fool!' he said. 'Old fool! This is my hour. Do you not know death when you see it? Die now and curse in vain!'
And with that he lifted high his sword and flames ran down the blade."

Re: Witch-king / Lord of the Nazgul PF! Order NOW through the banner!.

Thanks FrodoEyes for finding that!:goodpost: The passage in the book is so threatening and menacing, and the film portrays it as an afterthought. The films do set up the idea that breaking a Wizard's staff is to reduce them in power, but in the films, it feels like it just kinda happens. If the Witchking can impede and emasculate Gandalf, what hope can there be for the rest of our heroes? I also felt like the filmed battle between Eowyn and the Witchking was a little anti-climactic too for some reason...:dunno

Plus I wish the spirit of the ML flew to Sauron like it did in the book...I bet the last time the ML lit hit sword was in the second age too

:exactly:

It was so much more dramatic in the book, i have no idea why PJ didn't just copy it word for word from the page. No enemy had passed the gates of Minas Tirith, and the first to do so was the Witch King. In the film it's....... a bunch of trolls.

Also, in the book, the Witch King rides away when Rohan comes because they're a more immediate threat. He hasn't broken Gandalf's staff and he's met his match and knows it, so bails out. In the film, after breaking his staff, why doesn't he just stick his flaming sword of glory through Gandalf, removing any more risk he may pose, before riding off to face Theoden?

Thanks for the response. That definately sounds better than how the film potrayed it.

Re: Witch-king / Lord of the Nazgul PF! Order NOW through the banner!.

I think the films were so long as they were, they had to change and cut so much stuff. Can you imagine if they left everything in how long they'd be? I would love it, but the theater owners and a lot of the public wouldn't.

Yes, that's completely true, but they didn't change major plot points and kept all the best bits from the book. It wouldn't have taken any longer for it to be the Witch King riding in through the gates. It'd be a mesh of the gate breaking and Gandalf facing the Wiki. It would also work better cinematically.

Re: Witch-king / Lord of the Nazgul PF! Order NOW through the banner!.

At least they took Arwen's cameo away. :yess: :slap :panic:
