Yep, new posters are easily had from quite a few reputable ebay sellers, and a place like movieposters.com is going to hit you hard for everything. I'll give you an example, although probably not a poster you care about - Rango. I love this image:

but $30? Seriously? It was the teaser and has been somewhat replaced by a newer less interesting image, but still, you should be able to pick one up on ebay from a reputable dealer for $10 - $15 tops. You won't find much of anything for less than $20 at an online store like that, but if you shop early with new releases you should have little trouble coming up with great stuff cheap.

Every poster Ive gotten off ebay has turned out to be a fake, thats why I dont trust anyone on there...especially Moviegoods. They probably post the poster as their printing them in the background. I'd rather pay a little more to ensure their real.

But yes their stuff can get pricy (luckly ive never wanted one that was too much) Ive found a shop in Hollywood that you can go browse what they have and everything is a great price recently so ive been going with them.

Have you successfully bought from them before? They look like they have a lot of really cool posters for reasonable prices. Better than eBay for sure.

Over the years, think about 10 to 15 posters from them, their pricing may be a bit higher then ebay but least you know your getting an original.

In the past 3 years off the top of my head, I've gotten Black Sunday, Return of Count Yorga,Suspira, Blood from the Mummy's Tomb and Captain Kronos Vampire Hunter, probably a few more as well.

What exactly are you buying, Nuka? Double sided reprints are still very rare. If you're buying DS posters for new release films - say, Thor - you're crazy to buy from an online retailer. They're printing a ton of posters up front these days, making it a pretty rare case where there's even enough demand to make it worth reprinting them. There are plenty of good ebay sellers, and once you get to know a few you'll have no trouble adding new posters cheap.

Yea, if you're looking for something from 20 or 30 years ago, or something that was in extremely high demand (like the DS Dark Knight I was talking about earlier), then you have to be careful. But if you want a cool Sucker Punch poster, you can rest assured that all the ds ones on ebay right now are 'original'.

Highly recommend kinoart.net, they have a good selection and it's authentic. Some of the best posters are foreign editions, the art can be fantastic.

Interesting on the price. I guess I only looked at a couple of the Indiana Jones ones and they seem a little cheaper. But I like knowing that they should be original.

I find that if your trying to get new posters as the movies come out checking with local theaters, especially the independent ones can work to your advantage. When I was managing Century Theaters in Anchorage about 10 years ago we usually got anywhere from 10 to 20 posters of each movie, so we gave a lot of the posters away, other than Lucas Films, which always wanted the poster back after we used them, they just ended up taking space. I've always been pretty choosy on new posters but got a lot of nice ones while working there.

Living here in Washington state I've found a local independent theater in Tacoma that sells their poster anywhere from $5 to $10 each, which is a good deal.

I'd check with local theaters just in case before hitting ebay.

Yeah I ask at theaters from time to time. One I asked at I was told by the manager they dont let the public have them. And then another employee told me the manger keeps them. It made me laugh.

Anything that catches my eye really, DSed of course. I just don't trust ebay anymore. I've purchased too many blatant fakes on it that the poster said was original (color distortion, strange paper...etc). Rarity I don't care about. If it is, great. If its not, thats ok. But if its a reprint printed in your basement, don't lie about it. Reprints are worthless we all know this, but to some people they are more appealing due to price. I dont like to waste my money.

Anyone have any consistent luck with reducing fold lines? I have a couple I'd like to experiment with, but was wondering if anyone else had some pointers.

I had my folded Raiders linen-backed. It doesn't look rolled, but you can't see the fold lines unless you get up close.

I have the River City cases too - the price is right, but I think they're kind of cheap looking. I broke one too - the spring came off - easy enough to fix, but still a bit frustrating.

Linen backed isn't a thing I'd do, but I'm sure it improves the longevity.

I've got some folded posters that aren't particularly interesting that I may experiment on a bit.

I need to do something with my '78 superman poster..it's folded too

Really depends on where you get it.

There are some dependable sellers on ebay and some internet places that would be a good shot but I think the days of "hey I found this rolled up in my mom's garage" are long over.

Take a look here for a primer on OT Star Wars posters:

Thanks for the link, Evan. Now I see that the ones on eBay must've been fakes due to their affordable price. :google

So my wife had a thank you party for the 6 supervisors that work for her this past weekend and I get to talking to a guy about movies and show him my theater etc.,etc. My wife comes home today and says to me I have some swag for you. Apparently this guys previous job was managing a theater and he gave me an original double sided Fellowship of the Ring poster, original double sided Two Towers poster, original double sided Batman Begins poster, a few Fellowship marketing banners, an original Two Towers 35mm trailer spool, and the entire Two Towers 35mm film spool unopened. Pretty ____in' awesome.

I bet that Two Towers film spool is huge.

I don't know if you're kidding or not, but a 35 mm 4 min. trailer isn't going to be any bigger or smaller depending on the movie...?

Like Michael says - it's much too expensive to fake up reprints for doublesided posters unless it becomes rare like the Twin Towers Spiderman.

However there are inserts from popular films from the 70s that have been reprinted en masse - Godfather, Jaws, Star Wars, etc.

It was Batman 89 that started it where studios started printing tons of extra posters and they became much easier to get and that continues to this day. But as for getting posters from theaters - HAH! As an usher and manager I considered getting the posters as one of the perks of the job and if I didn't want it there was always another staff member that did. No theater employee I've ever known has given posters to the public unless it something we got promotional materials for - which didn't happen that often.

I think he was referring to "entire Two Towers 35mm film spool". To me it looks like he is talking about the actual movie, not the trailer.

I have a couple trailers myself. I was referring to the entire film that he said he got as well.
