Re: Natedog's figure bashes and customs - "Utinni"

Thanks! What are you doing about the backpack?

I removed the sleeves and lower body and replaced it all with ones I made. The original jacket body was too short and the wrong material. The sleeves had wrong quilting and no room at the top for the insignia. The pocket I made on the right arm is not screen accurate, but sewing something that small is impossible.

It still needs some tweaking like the button placement is off, but its a WIP.

Re: Natedog's figure bashes and customs - "Utinni"

Well damn, you're more of a critic than me. haha I'm stuck with the Hasbro piece of crap. I think you're looks perfect! Its times like these I wish I knew how to sew. What I'll most likely end up doing is waiting for Luke's to be parted out.

On the backpack I'm not sure yet, haven't really looked into it all that much yet. I know there's more than just painting to be done.

Made some progress over the last few days. Here's where I'm at. Whatcha think?

Re: Natedog's figure bashes and customs - "Utinni"

I'm thinking I don't even want to attempt one now since there's no way it can compare to this epicness. Freaking awesome man!

Re: Natedog's figure bashes and customs - "Utinni"

Thanks man! Its not a competition :fart

Progress goes much faster when you concentrate on one character :)

Softgoods are almost complete so I started some of the hardgoods today.

Backpack frame is on

:horror:horror:horror Hands-down the coolest custom I've seen in years! Looks phenomenal already.

Those are Hasbro pants and shirt and Sideshow Luke Bespin boots I think - but you're making the vest etc?

And you made the patch I'm about to make for my Echo Base Trooper (the colored rectangles) Did you print that?

AMAZING work!:clap

Re: Natedog's figure bashes and customs - "Utinni"

Thanks guys!

Boots = Hasbro shrunk to a more accurate size and painted
Pants = Hasbro untouched actually
Shirt = Shoulder area is Hasbro, the sleeves, body and pockets I made myself. The patch is a thick piece of cotton from an old pair of pants (my pants) and I painted the design.

Re: Natedog's figure bashes and customs - "Utinni"

Little more progress...

I took it all apart to repaint and removed the factory hose. It broke in the process, but I wasn't planning on using it anyways since I needed 2 but only had 1. So I used some 18AWG wire instead. Ribbed would have been nice but its for my pleasure not hers :lol

Re: Natedog's figure bashes and customs - "Utinni"

Very nice. How did you make the antenna?

The base is sculpy and the rest is a mix of styrene and metal tubing. That black portion is left over from the vibro staff kit that enaud sells. The top piece is made from 2 nylon spacers glued end to end. They're from my junk drawer. I think they're from big transistors, I forget.

I highly recommend going to your local hobby shop and picking up a bag of "scrap" metal tubing. Its usually a random mix of different sizes, materials and lengths. Usually costs only $5+/- and is perfect for this hobby.

To make small "dots" for buttons and such I roll a piece of sculpy really thin, then use a hollow metal tube like a cookie cutter. Works great!

Here it is naked.

Re: Natedog's figure bashes and customs - "Utinni"

Thanks Chris! :)

I think I may go back and do some more silver dry brush. I had it looking really good, but then the varnish thatI use now to seal everything "drowned" it a bit.

Built the wrist comm tonight. No pics yet.

Re: Natedog's figure bashes and customs - "Utinni"

Sorry if you have already discussed this, but I was wondering if you could please share the process used to " shrink" the hasbro boot to a smaller size!

Thanks and great work.

Thanks and great work.

Its easy! Simply soak the item in pure acetone for a couple of hours. The item will swell up to twice its normal size as it soaks up the acetone so keep that in mind when you choose a container to do it. The only thing to watch out for is when you remove the item from the acetone. It will be very soft and fragile and will tear on you if your not careful. Then just leave it out to air dry. Over the next few days it will shrink down smaller than it was originally. Do the smell test. If you can still smell the acetone, then its not dry. Leave it be for another day or so. Acetone can be purchased at your local hardware store either in the paint thinner section or the automotive body repair section with the Bondo and fiberglass.

Note this process only works on the soft vinyl pieces. It will not work on the hard plastic pieces like weapons etc.
