I will have to agree with this statement whole heartedly. He was second fiddle for that first run, but that man won a lot of games for us during that run being the #1 fiddle in the crunch time. Shaq was the first option for the first 3 or 3 1/2 qtr., but the 4th was always and have been Kobe time no matter what fiddle he was playing.
I just wonder how healthy Timmy D will be come that time when games are being played every other day... That's the same problem they ran into a few years ago, and I don't even you trust that T. Parker can shoulder a whole team during a playoff push.
I agree Kobe def. had a hand in many of those wins. It was def. Batman and Robin (Sorry Heat fans) and I dont think one would survive without the other. Both stars needed the right complementary player to win a ring later on (Wade and Pau respectively).
As far as Tim goes, we can only hope he stays healthy. I dont think we're gonna need to rely as heavily as we had in the past so long as Dice/Bonner/Blair can contribute. But I have a bad feeling the Lakers bigs are gonna eat up our frontline no matter who we have.
As far as shouldering the load, at times it will be TP or Manu or Hill and we might even have a RJ sighting or two (one can only hope). Thats one nice thing about or team, we dont rely on one weapon.
I don't know if there is anything wrong with "sefish". The difference between Kobe, Jordan, etc and a guy like Melo isn't selfishness, its leadership. I don't think Melo cares if he's the best player on the court, the second best or whatever. He doesn't tell teammates to get better. He doesn't demand perfection. This doesn't make him evil or a bad player, just don't look for Melo to do anything besides do what we already know he can do. He is a great player, but offers no intangibles at all. Then again when players leave school early before they learn the difference between talent and hard work, and get paid max dollars for their skill and potential instead of for their leadership and ethic, what else do you expect?
I actually think this is pretty spot on
