Nugs from the line : 23-35

Lakers : 20-24

Thanks Bodie, I guess it was pretty even as far as FT's made 23-20, slight edge to Denver but you can still say Denver lost due to 12 missed FT opportunities. That's a pretty crappy percentage.

Game 2 will be interesting. Phil will have had more time to figure things out, strategize, matchups, etc. We need more inside production from the Bigs, they were ineffective most of the night.

Nuggets arent ready yet to beat LA, nobody underestimates Kobe as a closer, dont know why you think anyone does  but i swear he cries about every call that referees dont make in his favor, quite annoying from someone that is the Lakers leader

:lol Yeah. Who ever underestimates Kobe on anything?????

Anyway, tough tough loss for the Nuggets. They really blew their free throws tonight and that contributed to the loss. Even Chauncy was poor from the line.

I felt the refs despite the FT attempts variance were favoring LA near the end.
You know if the Lakers were inbounding and JR Smith ran over Kobe the way Ariza stole that ball it would be an easy foul call. But no sour grapes. We couldn't contain Kobe and couldnt make our foul shots. We lost. The end.

I think Nuggets must win game 2 to keep from being routed.

Watching the replay, Ariza didn't even make contact with Billups. If anything they could have called a foul on Billups. He grabbed Ariza as he made the steal.

Are you joking or blind?

He clearly jumps into Billup's outstretched arms and shoulder...

Not a foul because they were going for a "loose ball". Thats a fine argument.

To say he didn't even make contact is a ridiculous statement.

I keep watching it and if there is contact, it isn't much. The only blatant contact I see is Billups grabbing Ariza as he is coming down, which is what causes Billups body to twist around. I guess I am blind.

I guess you are.:lol Seemed pretty clear to me that the twisting is caused by being bumped in the shoulder. To be able to twist on your own like that in mid air on the way down with out anything causing that would be pretty amazing.

Just think the exact same thing on Kobe would be a foul, if thats not a foul then it speaks more volumes about what the refs do for Kobe...

Again, no sour grapes. :lol We lost based on free throws and Kobe being Kobe, not that one play.

I just saw the closer shot of the replay. He definitely does make contact. I still don't think it was blatant enough to warrant a foul. I definitely can see a case being made for a foul, though.

Part of that twisting is from grabbing Ariza by the shoulder. That is pretty obvious. I never said he did it on his own.

Bottom line, the refs are not gonna make that call at that stage of the game, for either team. I've seen it happen way too many times to expect it.

I can see a case for it not being a foul either. I like more physical play like that. I'm just 100% confident same play with Kobe getting hit would be a foul, thats where my problem lies.

You sneeze and Kobe goes to the line. Your shoes are untied, Kobe to the line. You yawn in the direction of Kobe, Kobe on the line.
Kobe hits you in the face with his own elbow, Kobe on the line. :lol

Nah, I don't think so. That late in the game refs tend to pocket their whistles and let 'em play, most times.

I just noticed another part of that play that would make it a foul. I think Ariza barely steps on Billups foot as they both jump into the air.

That's the game right there. I don't care about calls at the end of the game in this case. Stinkin' Nuggets want to miss over 10 free throws, then they deserve to lose.

Lakers shot a dismal 41% from the Field.

Nugs shot 48% from the Field... and dominated the Lakers in almost every facet of the game.. and they lost. Geore Karl's face at the Post Game interview said it all, he looked crushed.

12 missed FTs (65% from the line) was the difference here, Kobe or not. Kobe scored 40, Mello 39.

Anyone biching about the Refs not calling enough fouls on the Lakers is sour grapes. They had 35 FTs to Lakers 24.

Fouls are all case by case whether a it is valid. Overall #s are irrelevant when talking about fairness.

The Nuggets get fouled more often than most teams based on their aggressive and penetration style of play. PERIOD. The refs do them absolutely no favors and anyone watching more than an occassional nuggets game knows that they earn more fouls that go uncalled especially against teams with superstars. Sure its sour grapes. If Nuggets win tomorrow, I expect to see equal if not more crying from everyone else.

I'm not calling for a higher quantity of fouls, but just that the refs get it right.
