Thank goodness it wasn't just me. I was looking back at pictures of the Spawn 'Viking Age' figures I used to get when I was still young enough to break stuff. They always looked amazing, whereas the only thing 7" NECA paint is usually consistent in is slop. Maybe it's the economy or lower budgeting, I don't know. The fact is McFarlane was (not sure if they still are) cleaner. Look at their painted netting, for instance. McF rarely puts out a figure where it's clear the painters made some sort of mistake.
