Re: NECA 1/4 Predator

Maybe he signed a non-disclosure form

Maybe. But I gave him an out for that, by simply talking about the experience of creating the piece. That doesn't require pictures or measurements.

Or, maybe he's just some guy pulling our collective legs. I've preordered all 3, so if he worked on it or not, I'm looking forward to them. But, something is fishy about the guy frankly. It's interesting to watch this thread over the weeks and see which posts he responds to and which he doesn't. Interested customers tend to be ignored while he further ignites the NECA vs Hot Toys flame war. I'd think a developer would be more interested in his "baby" than that. For an artist, his posts are rather shallow and contrived IMO.

I could be wrong. I'll see if he proves me such. My bet's on he never responds to this post, except that I've challenged him.

Re: NECA 1/4 Predator

I see, I thought it was odd, his replies, but I don't really care. You do have valid points though, we shall see if he replies.

Re: NECA 1/4 Predator

I hope the head on the closed mouth P1 looks somthin like this

Re: NECA 1/4 Predator

I'm actually more partial to the way they looked on that 7" custom that lcsbx did a while ago (think that was him). That repaint was absolutely gorgeous, and the closed-mouth mandibles looked beautiful. Not really a fan of the fully-closed look. It's always nice when they're partially open, gives more emotion.

Not that your gorgeous Scott Marshall mask isn't one of the most-awesome masks I've ever seen. You still haven't replied to my question either; are you gonna ship it to my house, or what?

Re: NECA 1/4 Predator

You seem to repeat yourself every time you come back. If you really worked on this, which I'm starting to wonder myself, give us a tidbit and post some cool shots. We're dying to see them anyway, and it would make a lot of folks happy. Go into some detail about the process you used to create this accurate piece. Comment on some of the things people keep talking about like why the netting is hexagonal instead of diamond. To us, that sounds like a no-brainer why it should be diamond pattern, being that it's just a roll of cheap plastic netting to begin with. But, maybe you've heard a good reason....

I don't understand why you just keep saying it's on your desk with every other figure made and it's the best ever, Hot Toys sucks etc.

Did I say HT sucks no. The net is what China will give us even if we go over it again and again. I been saving up Predator Ref since the 80ies and Shawn Nagle had a friend go to Stan's place and get really great pics way back in the 90ies. It's not in my power to take pics and put them on for now. Don't you want to wait and see them at Toy fair anyway? The net isn't dead on and I wish it were but I'll take this over it being sculpted on any day of the week. As a huge Predator fan I'm very happy with this guy and I've done many action figures over the years and this is my best figure I think. The goal was to do the Kevin Peter Hall Predator and I think this is the closest one so far. It would be nice to do one 1'6th and all but 1'4th was a must. HT has the 1'6th covered even though some wish it were more dead on. The net looks nice in hand and it would be great if it were dead on but still it looks real nice. It's been real tough to get the net where it is really. Seems like an easy thing but sometimes the easy things are a real pain in China A.

Re: NECA 1/4 Predator

I knew that Tankman if is who he says he is, couldnt post any pictures due to an agreement with NECA.But it is not humble to talk about having them as done in the forum. Most artist have more class.

You got all 3 so you must have some faith in this piece. Fans like to talk about the HT being better when in fact the sculpt isn't really a true P1. I own it and think it's great but could be better. For 80 bucks our piece will be so worth it even if the net isn't just like the movie. As far as the sculpt went, I started out roughing out Kevin Peter halls body and studied him on a show he was on in the 80ies call Misfits of Science.
I did the figure as if it were the real man and then he got the sculpted Predator put on his body cast. The shape underneath is so very important and HT did this with their new Predators from the new movie even though the head was artist take kind of. My goal was to honor Kevin and the Stan and do a very accurate P1. after a year now I see some things that could be better and lucky for me I got to improve some things. This sculpt is better than the two up. Another lucky thing is we moved this piece to a better factory even though the cost are way more. I'm hoping and confident you'll be happy with the figure.
Do you feel you have the power now since I came back to your post? I'm like you in that I want this to be a great figure and looking at what is in front of my face it will be. BIG TIME.

Re: NECA 1/4 Predator

:goodpost: correction blade, its not a mask, its a resin bust :wave

Ah, sorry. By any chance do you know if they're still available in latex?

This sculpt is better than the two up.

Agreed. And I'm actually glad the new factory costs more. Paying twice the usual amount for a 1/4 NECA piece is well worth it. It's like insurance that you're getting something good. SO PUMPED!

How many of us guys do you know? I'm pumped about this figure and feel like many other fans about it. What will humble me is if the factory makes a wreck out of my sculpture. I hate reading about the bad paint and pieces falling apart. This is the first big figure we've even made at this other factory which cost way more than any other figure we've done. 80 bucks is twice as much but this guy needs that because his design has so much to it. The piece isn't done. I've got the first test shot and we're improving on it even though the body was a shock to me how nice it is. Things are looking really good so far. Next test shot will be in hopefully in a few days.

Re: NECA 1/4 Predator

Now this new factory deco picture that went up last week... we know it's a factory paint app, but is there any chance that they puckered up and gave it 110% just for approval? Just wondering if there's the possibility that they'll get lazier during production, even if they're capable of knocking it out of the park.

I don't know about having the power, but I'm happy to have some commentary from you on your inspiration for the figures. It's interesting that China would have that much leverage over the pieces parts. You'd think they'd be particularly interested in serving the customer, NECA in this case.

It wasn't my intention to offend, unlike some others earlier. But, I think anyone here would not enjoy being taken for a ride either. So far, the pictures have spoken pretty well for the figure. The closed mouth factory shot, should that be what we'll get, is really exciting. Perhaps one day, you'll share some insider production pictures with us, once the cats out the bag.

Thanks for the response.

The test shots are always better yes but this factory has been good in the past of giving us close to the test shot production. The pic you saw was still a piece being tweaked out and not finished. The other factory has been a nightmare and I'm so glad we moved this guy over to the better factory. So far it's seems to be living up to what I thought it could be. i look at the two up everyday at work and see our 8 inch figure and think man oh man. Seeing the two up now at 19inches and an improved sculpt has been really great. For me this is the most wanted figure from the fan in me. A year ago I was in Hell trying to finish it for Toy fair. Now I've got P2 to get ready. He's looking really nice by the way and I hope fans will like what he ends up looking like. I'm think oh yeah he needs to be 1'4th too. One can dream and for me some dreams come true so we'll see.

Re: NECA 1/4 Predator

hi tankman ! any chance of making the elder predator from P2 in the 1/4 scale ? thanks...

Re: NECA 1/4 Predator

tankman has been here for years and we still get noobs who think he's lying about where he works for no reason. facepalm.gif

anyway, does anybody have an idea for putting face quills on this? i'm gonna send mine to get customized and i don't think the HT quills are gonna cut it.
