Maybe it's too late for Newt at retail, but a lot of us are anticipating a John Connor too. Assuming John won't work at retail either, why can't figures like these be Neca website exclusives? Why do they HAVE to be tied to a show? Sorry if that has been answered somewhere along the way. If the answer is that the show hypes the figure and allows them to sell enough to have it make sense to produce, then you know what, don't produce it at all. The fans are getting ripped off because they are not the ones getting them. It's profiteers and people who want to pay for their entire show vacation that are buying all the show exclusives.
...they don't want to deal with sells themselves because of the hassle involved, that's why they won't sell through their website, also they can't move as much as they can through retail, this has been answered many times.

Now that Newt is out John Connor is a good possibility, but they also said that if it happens it'll have to be another con exclusive (my money is on NYCC possibly this year because of the 25th)

I don't buy into retail selling more than online.

The trend for the last 6 years has been online sales crushing brick and mortor with almost any product.

This is just your typical SDCC BS.

I have faith that Neca will eventually do the right thing after SDCC, but for now Randy just needs to keep things close to his chest or else be crushed by SDCC lawyers.

Regarding 'typical SDCC BS'...probably. Exclusives deals have lots of red tape.

Regarding NECA matching sales themselves direct vs. letting hundreds of other retailers (online & brick and morter) drive sales for them...no chance. It isn't a case of "in store" sales vs. "online" sales. Its a case of NECA working by themselves vs. working with a network of hundreds if not thousands of other organizations pushing their product.

Along those lines, the "too much hassle" aspect is dead on the money. Right now NECA is shipping CASES off to those hundreds, if not thousands of outlets who break them down into the smaller orders. If NECA has to all of the sudden do their own direct small ordering for every product, they now are doing MILLIONS of shipments direct. They would need to increase manpower & infrastructure which all means increased costs.

It is safe to assume they have done this long enough to know the best way to make the most money.

Shipped out Grey dogs to customers late last week and the first customer to receive theirs i'm already having problems with. Straight off the bat they thought I made a mistake and sent out the Brown version, and truth be told that's fair enough because you'd need a pretty keen eye to actually see the difference on the so called Grey dog.

I don't know what to say guys it's so bad, a complete con atm. This needs to be looked into further and I don't know why no-one else is talking about it?

1) Is this a manufacturing error and a global ****up?
1.5) If not Is it just a bad batch

2) Is this actually how it's supposed to be (not actually grey) and the quality NECA is happy with?
2.5) if so why are the promo pics soo bloody misleading / inaccurate?

and the biggest ?

Why the **** would they release this instead of doing a molten lead version that is actually worth something? They solely didn't release a Lead version because they thought it wouldn't sell and instead they release the same figure for a 4th time with a tiny wash of grey paint on top. Because they think that would sell better (really?) than taking a bit of a risk and adding something valuable to the line?

The only way the Grey dog will sell if it's like this everywhere, is if people are getting conned by the promo images!

I mean look at this, 5 points to the person who can tell which one is the Grey!

And now look at this awesome Molten Lead custom and what could've been...

....

I saw them Saturday at my local TRU, and I could not find a 'gray'. Or so I thought...

Upon closer inspection, I realized the barely lighter color ones were supposed to be the gray. I believe they are all like this on a global scale.

I wouldn't even call it a 'gray wash'. It isnt as intense as a wash. It is the exact same black and brown only it barely BARELY has a gray dry brush on some of the highlights as opposed to a light brown on the highlights. I agree they are too similar to be worthy of any separate purchases.

...it wasn't supposed to be all grey. It was supposed to mimic the look it had on some scenes where it was more "greyish" than brown. Though I do think that releasing 2 very similar color schemes on the same wave wasn't a very good idea. And yeah it looked more grey in the promo pic, but I had trouble with version cause I didn't recall looking like that at any time in the movie

Damn, I'm gonna regret that the ''grey'' is included in the BBTS case assortment if this is the case. Originally it was supposed to be an either/or scenario.

The Weyland Yutani Commando is really something else. I feel like an idiot for not ordering an extra now. :slap

...the brown one has no grey shading at all, how can anyone doubt themselves if they "mix them up"?

I'm Joking / exaggerating a little there, but looking at them in hand boxed next to a brown... there is very very little difference to the point where I've had multiple customers asking for a refund and a return because they thought they were actually sent the Brown!

So you tell me I don't have one unboxed for myself but I doubt anyone would think looking at the two on a shelf that they are actually different or supposed to replicate separate scenes. The first thing they are going to think even if they are told "these are not the same" is "what's the difference?" and in my mind that probably wasn't what NECA was trying to achieve here.

Pretty sure this Grey version was supposed to replicate the actual puppet / suit of the Dog Alien which was Grey before the film's lighting made it look more brown?

The easiest way to tell the Brown from the Grey version is the teeth. The Brown one has the same yellowish white teeth the series 3 version had, and the Grey one has silver teeth.

From the NECA site if anyone is interested...
