I think a film by Blomkamp should, rather than focus on a sequel to 'Aliens', instead focus on being the next chapter in the larger story. Whether it ends up turning Alien 3 into a 'dream/nightmare' during cryosleep remains to be seen. Alien Resurrection is kind of an anomaly. It can exist, sure, but it's set what, 200 yrs after A3? It's kind of out there at the tail end of the larger story and it probably doesn't need to have any bearing on the current story arcs (Prometheus/Covenant, and Alien 1, 2, 3). I personally like Alien 3. A perfect movie? No. But it seems like the people that hate it are the ones that wanted to see more marines, the action of Aliens, and the fact that major characters were killed off early on among other reasons. The trouble is if that is all we see in another movie, the Aliens-style action and marines, then you risk upsetting the fans at the other end of the spectrum that like the slow-burn approach. And vice versa.

The thing I like about Alien is that the survivor is not the central character. All the crew of Nostromo are, probably the ships and the environments and sounds too. One of the characters happens to survive. In Aliens, it becomes a story about that survivor which caries on over to Alien 3. But does an Alien movie always have to be about that survivor? No, I don't think so. Looking at the larger story, Alien, Aliens and Alien 3 when looking at the three together are probably more about the attempts and struggles of Weyland-Yutani to obtain the Alien. I don't think we've really seen yet why they want to obtain it. We've only seen hints or passing sentences.

I feel they really have to go back to what made the first two movies so great and a large part of it are the technologies (starships, the marines, weaponry, androids, etc) and the aesthetics (the environments, the Giger bio-mechanical look, the planets). They tried to do that with Alien 3 swaying more toward the color palette of browns and golds and reds of Alien with it's environments and the tipping of the hat to the Marines with the WY Commandos (I hope we see more of those). But the budget and script was not there. If you're gonna change things up, those two things have to be in place. My question is, is it really necessary to change things up? Maybe it's best to do what you know, refine it, and do it well.

I feel a movie could be made where they should simply return with a PMC crew to the Derelict ship. Surely not EVERYTHING was destroyed.
Plus it's an alien spaceship, so it could survive the destruction of the Atmospheric Processor on LV426.
Have humans successfully breed and weaponize aliens, and use them in pirate attacks against colonies.
Then C. Marines are sent in to eliminate both ALIENS, and PMCs.
A single facehugger escapes in the confusion, and starts another "free hive".

In the end we get Marines vs PMC and their enslaved Xenos vs free Xenos controlled by a Queen.
To me it would be the ideal setting to see Xeno vs Xeno action, and find out who is the better "ruler" of the Warrior Aliens......Human or Queen.

Vasquez is already out of stock on TRU.com but they still have Frost and I'm sure the Albino will be hanging around for quite a while. Hopefully TRU.com gets more stock in to their website for those of you still looking. I know my TRU store is a joke and not close by so I mainly rely on the TRU.com for my figures.

I was in my local TRU on Saturday and they had not yet gotten them in-store.

Yeah personally I've grown tired of the Ripley story. I think a far more interesting story was where they went with the Alien Isolation game. Just start over with Amanda Ripley and have her obsession with finding her mother lead her into contact with the Xenomorph world. Just I hope they don't just copy parts of the Ellen Ripley story.

Your description reminded me of some cool concept art of weaponized Xenos I found while looking for other Alien related images. I don't know what or where this is from but I love the idea:

I like this idea more than the stupid looking Xeno armor and weapon concepts that were produced in the Insight Editions Weyland-Yutani Report book.

Me trying to come to grips with the fact that NECA's Aliens line is going to consume my wallet and my life for many, many years to come. :lol

... I've personally grown tired of Aliens vs Marines. I think James Cameron was a genius in making the whole thing about Ripley

and i think it's best to stop screwing corpses of franchises. :cuckoo:

Do this:

Pretend that A3 & 4 never existed I know it’s hard but try your best, even for those who like them

Now remember some of your favourite memories of watching the first 2 movies whether it's watching them for the first time or the 100th time, Back to back or singularly. At the cinema or on VHS, the anticipation, Fear, love, coming out of the cinema with that whole mind blown “whoa” kind of feeling. All those special kind of memories- whatever it is try to keep that in mind.

Now try to remember what you wanted next for the franchise your hopes or desires, what could be what shouldn’t be, comics, novels merchandise etc.

(At this point no-on in their right mind would ever want 3 or 4 as official movies to ever become a reality)

Now start to let the A3 & A4 memories slowly come back to mind and sink in - at first it might feel like the impossible distant future or stuff of nightmares and now you remember it’s the reality.

I think It's important to remember that no-one even those who like A3 & 4 actually wanted those movies to be made. I think people accept them and stick to finding those good bits inside them.

Alien 3 unfortunately brought the whole franchise to an all time low and then 4 nearly offed the franchise completely trying to finish off what A3 started.

They are simply put bad Alien movies, however saying all this I don't hate them. They are just sort of... there - I used to think of them as fan made movies, but I don't anymore because that's almost like dissing the fans. The fans didn't want this.

I'm not saying no-one should like them, just that people should like them for what they really are. No-one needs to pretend that A3/4 were good installments.

I guess we'll see what Neill Blomkamp and the real sequel to Aliens does with them.
I'll never forget the massive disappointment I felt leaving the theater after Alien 3. While it does have some cool ideas its just depressing as f^$%. Alien series has never recovered for me.

exactly my thoughts: some cool ideas but lazy dull ****** product overall.

Found two WY Commandos and one A3 Ripley in TRU today. Left them on the pegs. Just not interested in collecting anything from that movie or Resurrection for that matter. Saw all of the movies in the theater. Aliens was a Sci-Fi / Action / Suspense / Thriller tour de force. At least for me. I remember hoping for the same type of ride when I sat down in my theater seat, large popcorn and coke in hand, in 1992 to watch A3. I was let down. From that moment, about 10 minutes in, when Hicks and Newt where dead the EEV, I was just waiting for the movie to end. And Resurrection. Just went to see that because it was an Aliens movie. And ended up wishing I hadn't. Just my 2 cents.

I think my opinion of A3 was influenced badly after seeing Hicks and Newt killed off immediately. After that it didn't matter to me what the rest of the movie was, I had checked out and was ticked off. Over the years I've appreciated it more, especially the extended cut but still have bad feelings toward it.

if you don't get some idea, it doesn't mean there is none. things just don't work that way.
No, what doesn't work is this insinuation that your particular tastes in the matter of the Aliens franchise constitute some sort of binding and canonical vision. There is no "idea" where the franchise is concerned, because the franchise itself is nothing but the output of an ever-changing group of artists, writers, directors, often with vastly different interpretations of their own.

... I've personally grown tired of Aliens vs Marines. I think James Cameron was a genius in making the whole thing about Ripley
Dont make me laugh. The Marines have been criminally under-utilised in the franchise as a whole (generally, it seems, in favour of either Ripley or some transparent Ripley ripoff), and it wasn't Cameron who made Ripley the centre of the universe, it was Fincher.
