I would say after reading that article that it could well be Apone. I can not see why they would leave it until SDCC to reveal that its a generic Colonial Marine. If not Apone then another character from the film worthy of a SDCC reveal.

For what it's worth, the question of doing other scales has been raised to them before & Randy said they did not want to deviate from their existing scale(s) offerings.

Thats just ****ing annoying. Are we destined to never ever get Powerloader and Queen Alien toys in the same damn scale as eachother - not counting the crappy old Kenner ones.

NECA are missing a great opportunity there of releasing their Aliens line in 1:6. A heck of a lot of people would much rather have NECA Aliens than degradeable and woefully innaccurate HT ones AND there'd be the cross-compatability with the Hot Toys Powerloader. FS NECA.

It'll be Apone but possibly with a generic headsculpt. I thought there was an issue getting his likeness permission.

Here is my take on the deal with Al Mathews. The man has strong opinions and stronger convictions. He moved to England because he didnt like how the vets were treated in the US when he got back from Nam. He moved towns in England because he wanted more privacy and didn't like being stopped every day by fans who recognized him.

Great interview here that reveals a lot

In regard to action figures specifically, there is a great quote in that interview.

AL MATHEWS interview said:
AXP: Hot Toys (a toy company in Hong Kong) has just released a series of 12 inch figures from Aliens, one of them is Sgt. Apone, what does it feel like to be made into an action figure?

AM: I shall mention 'Hot Toys' to my lawyers, on the one hand, I am happy about having an action figure, if it looks like me, and I get paid!

This implies to me, that Hot Toys never made an honest effort. They ran with a figure that kept them from paying for his likeness and wouldn't allow them to get sued over. IF Neca pays. We will get him. It really seems like it's that easy. His problem isn't having a face attached to a figure or to guns or to any of that shinanigans. His issue is being treated fairly. What does he consider fair? That's for Neca to figure out!

Bad news from Twitter...

Q: you guys are making an Apone fig- that's awesome!!! He's on the computer screen!

A: I assure you it is not Apone but something else

Was much more excited about Apone than Frost tbh. Hicks and Hudson look great though.

As I have said, I'd love Frost, but if I had to place a bet with a gun to my head, my money is actually still on the generic "army builder". I suspect when Neca "hints" at or goes public with a "possibility" its because its already a done deal. Lack of glamour be damned, its easy money for them. New face, weapon and sleeves while recycling everything else. People like me will still buy 3...so if your them, why not?

Which btw, unfortunate for you queen lovers, that article already is dropping phrases like "if not for the holidays, then early 2014 for sure". The fact they are backtracking on their previous "by Christmas" comment so soon, i fear the queen wont be here any time soon. 2014 at all may be a minor upset.

I wouldn't dismiss Apone just yet. They're sneaky over at NECA. No ED 209 they said. No Alien Queen they said.

I hope the series 2 Marine figure is a generic Marine with a helmet, I'd buy a whole squads worth.

I also can't wait to see the new Classic Alien!

I presented the quote you referenced to Randy. Here's what he said: "there lies the problem. Not a big enough name or character to pay for on top of license fees. Doesn't work"

*sigh* could be another of NECA's well intentioned red herring deceptions so they can surprise us later - but I doubt it.

Ah the dream that is a full squad of USCMs and Dutch's team from P1...probably never to be realised.

:panic::panic::panic: Just posted by Neca

The Xeno just looks absolutely awesome, I can't wait to get them. Damn living in the UK and having to wait longer! :gah:

:exactly: That thing is FANTASTIC!!! :hi5:

I wonder how much money we're talking for, say Al Matthews' likeness. Is it something that NECA collectors could pay to contribute towards through some scheme NECA could run. Like that Kickstarter thing that has got Veronica Mars resurrected as a movie. I dunno, probably a stupid idea, just not enough hardcore fans out there and if there was there'd be no need for such a scheme in the first place.

You should tweet NECA and ask. Sounds like a good idea
