They should have skipped the awful Trilobite 2 pack and just given us Shaw with a baby Trilo.

I don't think neca anticipates series 3 outselling series 1 or series 2 (if they do...they have zero business sense; they didn't get where they are by having zero business sense). The potential profit margin is just so huge with series 3. I think they are hoping to make a slight profit and ease some of the pain from the previous 2 lines. Hopefully they will then create Shaw + for series 4.
I really appreciate your perspective here. It really goes a long way to drowning out the uninformed jabs some others have made along the lines of "Why NECA no make Serie 3 with Shaw und Underwater-Baskatball Player version Holloway?" and "NECA stupid for making this, whie they not consult me cause I marketing/business genius, whie they not make all the other figures I say right now?"
Okay... What I don't get is how more figures of the same that did not sell that well is supposed to help?
The real question is, How many of these new Engineers will they be able to sell?
How many people are going to buy these? Enough people?
@kobe: thanks. we cant know for certain what neca is up to with the decisions they've made regarding the line, but its safe to say they want the line to be a success as much as we want the line to be a success...they want to make $. EDIT: I posted my new post before you posted your last post. just wanted to say BINGO! hehe. precisely what I was referring to. I've gone into detail before, but no one seems to pay attention...your post is right on. Cost of retooling is a monster!
@crows: Its not that neca thinks series 3 (holo engineers) is going to sell better than Shaw and Vickers/Fifield etc. HOWEVER, the cost of producing Shaw and Vickers would be exponentially greater than the cost of producing the holo engineers. If the engineers sell slightly worse than series 1, then its money in the bank for neca. If Shaw and Vickers (or whoever else you want to throw in there) sold slightly less than series 1, neca is going to be losing money...particularly since it sounds like none of the series' have been all that profitable. Again, its about profit margin...the bottom line. People who want Shaw need to buy series 3. period. As well, because of finances, neca Prometheus series 3 became a matter of holo engineers or NOTHING. Its incorrect to frame the situation in such a way that makes it seem like we could be getting shaw + fifield INSTEAD of the holo engineers. Obviously the numbers just don't make sense to do that. If not for the holo engineer repaints, neca would likely have just canned the line. I know its small, but the urn/ampule that is included looks very cool. No, series 3 isn't the best, but im buying! I like em enough to purchase, the urn/ampule is something I really want, and I don't want to be among those who were part of cancelling the line and killing Shaw etc.
yeah I understood that the first time, I understand that.
I guess my question to NECA would be, how many Series 3 figures need to be sold to go on and make Shaw/Fifield?
That's what I am wondering about. I get that making series 3 is cheap to them, but how much would they have to sell to make series 4?
I know that's something only people at NECA know. But that's my biggest issue.
What if everyone in this thread goes and buys series 3 in hopes for series 4, and then series 4 never happens? Would be a waste of money spent on series 3.
Tooling is thousands of dollars. Neca will certainly save a lot with this wave, and hopefully aren't looking for a lot of sales.
