From Neca`s Blog.

I know it has been a long wait both for images and news. Let me just say that no one has ever attempted to produce a figure of this size or magnitude - period!
As many of you know who have been following the history of the Balrog Toy Biz tried to produce a much smaller version both in PVC/ABS injection molding and through Roto-Cast Vinyl. Because they need to sell in to mass cutomers like Wal-Mart, TRU, etc the figure never happened because the big retailers did not want it.
A couple years ago we had the opportunity to create our own Balrog to scale with the Toy Biz line and we can market and sell it to the hardcore fans and collectors who we cater to. We spent a lot of time shopping the Balrog at different factories and trying different methods and materials before we found a way to produce him. It was a very long journey and as of last November I thought it was settled. We had selected our vendor and they had the best team of engineers and all was right with the world. The Balrog was ready for release this Spring or so we thought....

When manufacturing any figure or toy a lot can go wrong especially with a figure of this size. The factory ran into balance and standing issues due to some plastic warping and other more technical issues. At first the factory tried to solve these issues themselves without alerting us that there was a problem to begin with. Then comes the shipping carton problems. Once you reach a certain size or dimension no matter what the weight of the item the shipping costs can become more expensive than the item itself. We then had to restructure how the Balrog separated for shipment and how he is packaged in the shipping carton. Are you bored yet?

At any rate a lot more time and effort has gone into this figure since April when he was supposed to be released. The lastest date we have from our factory is August. I am hoping that this is the case and since we have 2 fully painted samples with working lights and sound it seems like we are on our way. In order to give you the most up to date information I will post on here once I know the Balrog is packed in the container and on the water headed to our warehouses.

I know it has been a long haul and believe me - it has been even longer for us. So many times I thought we were close and the dates or the pricing slipped away and we had to start all over again.

Anyhow enjoy the images of the actual toy and I wish we had gotten these images up sooner but we do the best we can with the time we have and when you are producing over 100 figures in a year along with all the other items we do, well I know most of you understand. Time to pack up the big guy for his trip to Comic-Con.

See you in San Diego

I agree w/Gruson, way too red. Not too mention it does nothing for me, I am not into figures anymore...I will stick with my SS/W mini-Balrog.

I think it looks good for what it is: A toy. An expensive toy at that, but still a toy. I'm passing as well. Not my cup of tea and it's a space hog. :lol

You have to think of this as a toy - a very big toy, but a toy in the same category as the toybiz figures nonetheless

The redness of it doesn't worry me too much. What I dislike more is the swivel waist :|

I used to want this thing...like mabey two years ago when it was first mentioned...now the novelty has worn off and money has been spent in other areas...too late Neca....

It's ok. Nothing great and I've got way too many other things I want way the heck more than this. NECA messed this one up by taking way too much time.

Is this the Chris Angel sawed in half Balrog? What's with the swivel waist? Not digging the big seam at all. Otherwise it looks kind of cool.

Tough room! I actually think it rules! What an awesome toy (not a PF figure or a diamond-encrusted statue, but a T-O-Y). I'm pleased NECA took the time to see this through. Go NECA!

And for those who don't like him, that's okay too. :D

Yup, too late. I was never really into it, but was too a victim of hype, and since then I've further refined my tastes into a more focused direction.

I can't wait to see the improved SSC 12" Aragorn!

As a toy collector I think it looks pretty good. My concern would be that it is really just too big of a figure... and the waist joint is pretty ugly. It would have been better if they had left it off, or maybe sculpted around the articulation so it doesnt' look like he's been chopped in half :monkey3

Overall its a good figure, and I'm sure if I had been a bigger fan of the Toy Biz line I'd be getting it.

Guess I'm alone on this one. It's a Balrog, therefore it will be purchased and enter my Balrog shrine. I actually like it.

Yeah, I don't care for the waist as well, I didn't realise the Balrog's belly and chest was that black, you think there would be some red in there. I'll hold off on any more comments til SDCC.

If it ends up being a small ES, watch for the sudden attention increase.

If I'm not mistaken, the ES is 5,000. At least that's what it was set at several months ago.

I like it, and more importantly my son does. I am going to be making a Moria diorama in his room, we have been waiting for a LONG time for this. I think the Gandalf might be low on batteries.
