The film that wouldn't die:lol

I heard a bit about the plot and it's different..... in that Ripley has a psychic connection with the Xenos, when she introduces a couple of her 'friends' to Hicks he totally freaks out. She can control a few and they act as her soldiers/drones, so you're going to see Xeno battling Xeno. So when Ripley battles the Xeno Queen she's wearing the Xeno helmet you see in the concept art, but when she and the Queen kill each other Newt takes the helmet and puts it on....

Sounds exactly like Blomkamp was "paying fan service" in his script but also there is something new even if it sounds a little predictable in the end. BTW when Sharlto Copley said he wanted to play a Xeno he meant one of Ripley's. Even if the film doesn't get made it sounds like it would definitely be worthy of graphic novel release.

Interesting, curious where did you hear this? That's all well and good but if he doesn't have Jonesy in it, then I'm not going..... :D

I think with all the hub-bub about it, if they never get it made for whatever reason they'll have to release a book or something. I only read one of the novels, Out of the Shadows, it wasn't bad, heard that the next one was kinda 'meh'. There is so much clamoring for this to get made there will be a lot of pissed off people if nothing ever comes of it.

It was let slip during SDCC to someone apparently, probably because they think the film won't be made.

and that's the plot/story which Weaver approves of! (which was supposedly one of her big contract sticking points) I think as long as her character dies she will be happy regardless, much like Harrison Ford who probably told Abrams he'd only do TFA if he was killed as he begged Lucas to do in ROTJ!

Ripley having some psychic connection to the xeno's. Obviously they're playing with her worst fear, but what's the next twist, she's related to them or we all are related to them! :eyeroll: For all of the bashing Alien 3 got, they at least played her xeno fear well, by making her have one. The 'director's' cut of A3 the queen doesn't burst out she just falls to the fire. Bad idea David. The whole movie builds up to her giving birth to a xeno and her turmoil about it and trying to off herself before it happens. What Fincher got right with the rest of the directors cut he lost it when he cut the queen chestburster out. I still don't know why he did that. (Recently watched A3 btw)

At this juncture I should re-visit the original dark horse 6 issue comics and the two 4 issue series which followed. I liked the art of the first two but hated the art style of the 3rd one, Earth War i think it was called. I remember back then everyone pissing and moaning about no Ripley in the first 6 issues. IIRC she is in the last cell of the last page of the 4th issue of the second comic series but is in the 3rd series. Probably haven't read them in 30yrs!

Didn't they already do the whole Ripley feeling ''connected'' to the Aliens thing in Resurrection? Plus this idea of her being able to control Aliens and pit them against other aliens sounds very silly indeed, like AvP level stuff. I dunno. I can't see how they'd do it and still have it feel like canon with the first two films.

As for there being no chestburst in the Extended cut of Alien 3 - naw I approved of that change. She wanted to avoid that experience. It was bad enough she got facehugged and once she realised that she knew she had to die. To have her not escape the chestburst either was just too cruel.

Yep, screw that! Throw this film in the bin and call it a day.

well she was connected because she literally was on a genetic level, being cloned from when she was impregnated. How they'd work her being psychically connected to the xeno's when she wasn't impregnated I have no clue. Only thing being is that they obviously have some kinda telepathic communication (queen making drones retreat after she flames a warning), so perhaps they are going with the fact that the xenos are like some super telepathically advanced being or something.

Maybe they'll say that because she melded with the xenomorphs or whatever that she can go back and relive past experiences even after she died. So Alien 3 and A:Res "happened" but as alternate lifes/deaths. Maybe she even relives the same trip back to Earth hundreds or thousands of times. That'd be pretty original.

This is all correct.

The first stories with Newt in a mental hospital and alcoholic Hicks were pretty cool, and almost as dark as Alien3.

Then there's this ******** ****...

OMG I recall that from the last page of the 2nd comic series. It was the biggest buildup/letdown reveal if you ask me. They teased her in the b&w series IIRC but her face was obscured. Color artwork in the second series was good, but I didn't like the 3rd series artwork. After that series, I left the Aliens comic realm. I felt those 14 issues from 3 series was a decent sequel story and ending. I should dig them out of storage and re-read them.

I have to agree. They've played out Ripley's love affair for Aliens.

I'm not sure they need to reverse and change things to feel canon. If the script is right, they could deliver an excellent story with a side of aliens.

she was nice, didn't have huge time to chat since it was autograph line but appreciated all of the fans. Told her I'm one of the 'OG' fans from the get-go! She chuckled.

yeah even now I'm starting to have doubts. Ridley says Alien Covenant has direct tie in to first movie and direct tie into Ripley but isn't telling what. (i have idea as I'm sure that's the rumor that was leaked). About the only person who could pull it off is Henn as she's only 40 but Weaver and Biehn are getting older. Sure set it in the future of the series, but still it's bound to be a physically demanding role no matter how they do it.

Im thinking the same thing. To be honest I wonder if they should just either recast the roles themselves or just do a completely new story based in the same Alien universe but have moments or locations in it that call back to the original movies. You could have a retrieval team coming to a barren planet outpost and discovering its dark past of being once Fury 161, or WY trying to turn another planet into a colony and naming it in memory of those lost on lv 426 as a memorial service.

Honestly I wish they'd have explored the Alien and Ripley link more in AR than they did. It was such a cool premise in an otherwise badly comedic movie. Great horror material for sure. I was disappointed in a way that they didnt really write Ripley 8 as a more grey character, not being sure whose side she should be on throughout the film. I think even the original script had her being way more Alien like than human.

Yeah reboot!!! I know, let Warner Bros. drop DCU movies and take over making the Alien's franchise from Fox....let Snyder write/direct....:D

Just got back from seeing Aliens with a live orchestra doing the music.

Pros:

-My friend is ridiculously generous and refused to take money off me for my ticket.
-Seeing a classic film with a large audience for the first time because I was too young to see it in the cinema on its original release. I think some of the audience hadn't seen the film before (or in a very long time) because they were jumping at certain scare parts. People laughed at Hudson's lines and whooped with joy when Ripley emerged in the Powerloader.

Cons:

-it was the theatrical cut and I really missed the SE scenes, in fact I had forgotten just how much the SE added.
-Being so familiar with the film I could tell where the orchestra didn't get it quite right, under-emphasised certain parts or overdid others. And the Alien-scream sound effect from the main titles, during Ripley's chestburst dream or during the build up to the Sub-Level 03 battle wasn't there. Understandable but a little jarring to me nonetheless because I couldn't help but expect it.

So on the one hand I would say I'd actually prefer to have seen it as a standard cinema showing with the music already in place as we're all familiar with it. And yet it was the fact of the live orchestra and the fact it was one of only 2 showings that made it a packed theatre. A more widespread cinema rerelease would reduce each showing to a tiny audience most likely.

Yeah, Ressurrection is one of those movies, so bad so good, I enjoy it more than both Prometheus movies.

I think it's the only Joss Whedon I unironically like.

And the PS1 game is my favorite PS1 FPS.

Sensitive Joss Whedon was involved in that? I didn't know :lol

I think you could peel away some layers of crap from it, it could of been great.

Brometheus is alright. I do appreciate it tried to divorce itself from the Xeno. I just hate it didn't stay with the Engineer plot and then ups and flushes everything fleshed out in the prior film to make David a megalomaniac with the most contrived storytelling I've ever seen. He can create giant eggs with a petri dish and a microscope. You cannot create eggs, with a dead ****ing body. **** dementia ridden Ridley Scott.
