You have no opinion, because this movie isn't out yet. Maybe you saw a screening, but from your history with your many weird issues with Blomkamp, how can I believe you?

I never asked anyone to trust me on faith.
I'm giving my opinion and what i know.
You can choose to believe or not.
I'm definitly fine with your skepcisim, so many wannabees online bragging about **** they dont know so i'm not throwing the stone at you for not believing me.
Now what i dont get is that because im not following the pattern of saying this director or this director is not the perfect awesome genius you all want them to be, i'm tagged as a hater, a negative guy.
I might have been harsh sometime but i'm always fair.
I love Blomkamp eye, his esthetics, he's my favorite new scifi director out there, he's gifted but on some other stuff i think he's lacking that is all and i'm just saying it.
Remember english is not my first language and i sometime end up souding more harsh than i actually think it.

Tetraaval, maybe simply because i'm respecting everyones opinion and the rules.
Of and **** YOU TOO ;)
My treat.

With His New Film, Elysium, Director Neil Blomkamp Delivers A Hellish Vision of Paradise | Underwire | Wired.com
This whole article is a great read.

Neill Blomkamp Wanted Eminem for 'Elysium' Before Matt Damon | Movie News | Movies.com

"Wired has written a fascinating, sprawling piece on South African filmmaker Neill Blomkamp.

Of course, it also covers Blomkamp's next sci-fi film Elysium, and while it doesn't get into any spoilery details, it does contain one amusing detail: Matt Damon wasn't the director's first show for the film. He wasn't even his second choice.

Those first two spots actually belong to two very different rappers. The first person Blomkamp offered the role to was Ninja of Die Antwoord, but he passed on it because he didn't want his first acting role to be with an American accent. The director then turned to Eminem, only to be once again get rejected. Eminem would only do the movie if it took place in his hometown, Detroit, and that wasn't in the cards. It was at this point that Blomkamp gave up on the idea of following his District 9 model -- a restrained budget with no stars -- and decided to upgrade things a bit.

He then met with Damon in a diner and showed him a copy of a graphic novel he'd made with the aid of conceptual artists at Weta. From the Wired piece:

“I talked to Jim Cameron about Avatar early on,” Damon says, “and what struck me about Neill was the same thing that struck me about Cameron: the world had already been created. It existed in their minds.”

Not a bad benchmark to be compared to. As for the design of Elysium's world, there's also another cool tidbit in the Wired piece about how, as a kid, Blomkamp came across a book featuring the artwork of Syd Mead (who did work on Aliens and Blade Runner). The young film geek fell in love with the imagery, so it must have been a dream come true to have Mead actually design some of the sets for Elysium. "

Those posters have a ron cobb vibe.
Cool.
Cant wait for the artbook.
And the finished movie.

I wasn't too wowed by the Elysium poster initially. But after seeing a higher res shot, the details looks much better now. I am liking it.

Teaser and trailer was enough for me, trying to avoid anymore trailers and clips. Very tempting though. Few more weeks to go.

Duncan Jones retweeted this from Phelim O'Neill and then I checked the follow up tweet.

Phelimo: This year's crop was making me think it impossible to make a truly great blockbuster. Thank you, Elysium, for proving me wrong.

Phelimo: @ManMadeMoon If his last movie was a District 9, this one is at least a District 20.

Damn.
That's high praise from a director I have immense respect for.

The question should be whether it will be a good film. I understand the economics affect the studios and the careers of the creative people involved; but we as a viewer should first be concerned about the art and its entertainment value and not on the commerce aspect and its momentary gain.

The only moment im interested about the box office is after ive seen the movie. If i liked it, i want it to make money so the director can do what he wants on his next project.

Most of the time fans wants the movie to be huge so they can say "hey look i was right the movie is killing it".

I think the movie will do well.
People want to see it.
I mean average people not geeks or fans, unlike Pacific RIM.
I m really sad about te trailers tho they are really spoiling too much.

I have no doubt it will be a good film.... Will it make money? Ehhh I don't know

Elysium was scheduled for India release on August 16 (a week late after US release of Aug 9) and now Sony Pictures India has delayed it further by another week for August 23.

Unbelievable. Sony has released Smurfs 2 on the same day as US, but they can't have a big release like Elysium on the same day, just like they did with Django .

Oh this is stupid, they won't be screening it in Mexico until next month.

:gah:

Whatever, I'll wait, will have to stay away from this thread until I see it.

On another note, I love how they made Sharlto keep his accent, and exaggerated it a little bit.

"Velcom tu Elysiam"

Love it.

Can't believe no one has shared this yet.

Yeah the story has been done to death yadda yadda, there are a handful of plots and every movie ever made is based off that, call that the illuminati or whatever :lol I'm interested in the way they tell the story and the subtleties of the characters' personalities.

In this case, Kruger looks fun as ****.

"It's just a flesh vound" :lol I hope they let him say "fok" as much as he wants....
