I thought shades was great, I almost wanted him
to be DB lol.
What I loved was how the villains (Mariah and Shades) beat the system with lies, wealth, violence and connections while the hero went to jail. No other superhero movie or show has ever ended with the good guy in jail and the villains free, usually the other way around.

Sure the story became messy towards the end but like I previously said it self corrected.

Huge missed opportunity was not mentioning the Hulk - Abomination fight in Harlem. TIH is still part of the MCU.

Even if one rates this the lowest of the Netflix shows it's still a solid triple, even an "ok" Netflix superhero show is still better than half of the cinematic superhero movies.

The action scenes were so repetitive. I would have put in a member of tthe wrecking crew maybe. Some kind of mid card super strong villain to challenege him.

Luke should have taken cottonmouth out in the middle of 125th and beat him within an inch of his life. Like tito santana did to slick in wrestle mania 3. But worse. Cotton mouth would have crapped himself at the thought of revealing anything on luke.

Nah, having Cottonmouth being taken out by his cousin was much better.

I don't know what people were expecting from Power Man fighting.

He takes bullets and he punches.

He can't fly or shoot lasers.

He is a Hulk that boxes. Does Hulk suck in his movies, he fights the same way.

I don't expect Hulk to start doing flying round house kicks therefore I don't expect the same from Cage.

Luke was perfectly throwing fools around in the show, taking bullets and slamming thugs with car doors.

Luke Cage is not DD so he shouldn't fight like DD.

Now, if Iron Fist was to fight like Cage then I would have a problem.

Hulk fought abomination. Hulk fought tanks. Hulk fought hulkbuster. And they were decent battles. Cage needed someone to go toe to toe with.

Netflix budgets aren't the same as the MCU/DC budgets, if they're going to go big on something then more than likely the money is being saved for the grand team up finale.

Besides these are street characters fighting for the soul of their neighborhoods if you want to see Superheroes saving the world by fighting Doomsday, World Engines or a falling Sokovia land mass you will have to stick to the movies.

Honestly, I kind of don't really care if these characters ever appear in the movies or not. I was even trying to think of the logistics, and the most I could think of was like a quick montage in Infinity War or, like, the sky falling or whatever earth shattering event was going to happen, and The Defenders helping evacuate (maybe while Castle takes potshots at gangsters trying to leave the city), but I like the separation and I think that it fits. Logically, these people really are inhabiting a different world than The Avengers, even if they're in the same world. I can't imagine a Manhattan billionaire playboy interacting with a Harlem dishwasher or a pro-bono defense attorney in Hell'a Kitchen. Even Cap, being from Brooklyn, seems better suited to the barracks, and it makes sense because the overwhelming majority of his connections to that part of the city died a long time ago.

The best chance for a crossover character, I thought, would, maybe, be Hawkeye. I thought the Matt Fraction stuff would actually make for a great Netflix show, but, at least, as far as the MCU is concerned, that would probably mean getting divorced and leaving the farm, but I do love the separation, because it makes sense. People will talk about the incident. Newspapers will write about the incident, but, when all is said and done, life goes on. People go to work, criminals still commit crimes, and that's the way it would be.

Cage was such an incredible show, though. The cast and characters were all cool as hell, the story was engaging, the music was killer, and Harlem, in all honesty, cemented itself as, perhaps, the most interesting part of the city, at least as far as the Netflix shows go.

Finished the show, and I thought it was easily the worst of the Netflix shows. I expected a lot more from Jessica Jones and LC after Daredevil but that show just seems to be in a league of its own.

Mike Colter is just okay as LC, but he just doesn't elevate the show like Charlie Cox and Jon Bernthal did for DD. In fact, outside of Cottonmouth, I don't think there was a single interesting character on the show.

The action was horrible, especially when you compare it to DD. Almost every fight was was the same thing, very uninspired and lacked originality.

I do agree with Jye, even DD has the same problem, these shows are just a few episodes too long. There's just so much filler that rarely adds to the narrative.

I did love the aesthetic, and I loved the music, but overall the show was really mediocre.

From what I've seen in the trailers and clips your review is what I was expecting. I may decide to watch this earlier than I anticipated because there's a documentary called 13th coming to Netflix this week.

Cage needed someone to go toe to toe with.

Maybe they'll get Martin Lawrence for season 2.

I think you're making the right choice :lol

LC was definitely a chore to get through.

Alright, just finished. Overall, the show was aight. Got say, it's the worst one of all 3 Defender shows so far. I was really digging it right until Cottonmouth died. I was liking the character and the plot up until then. Cottonmouth was intriguing to watch. He was a man way out of his depth, making all sorts of mistakes and bad calls but he was still a the top and full of himself. It was fun to watch, and it was beautifully acted by Mahershala Ali.

I kind of hated Shades, not because he succeed in the end but because he was a nobody who succeed in the end. I mean, he walked tall but he was a nobody, just some common thug that thinks he so freaking smart. Dude just got lucky in the end that it all fell into place for him and Mariah to succeed. I wish Cage had slapped him around like the ***** that he was. That fool wears sunglasses at night :slap. I wish Zip (which was awesome) had gotten the best of him.

Oh, I didn't like that whole family plot with Diamondback and Cage... wish they hadn't gone that route. Also, not too happy that it looks like Diamondback will be getting his own set of powers now. Cheap...

On more complaint, Luke and Claire relationship. Couldn't they just have been buddies? The had that friendly/flirty back and forth going and it was fun to watch but it should have been as far as it went. That stupid kiss felt forced in the end. Now what, we can expect a love triangle between Luke, Jessica and Claire? Freaking dumb... don't turn this into one of those awful CW shows.

Oh, and Luke was WAY too under powered. As if that wasn't bad enough, what's the point of having the guy be bullet proof then completely get rid off his one advantage with those Judas bullets. Now, any schmoe can be a threat to the guy. Don't even bring him over to the Defenders, he is useless now. Let him stay home and just give him a call when DD, JJ and IF need someone to break a few doors.

6/10 - Won't watch again.

I like Luke Cage better than Jessica Jones, but I really wasn't a fan of JJ. Daredevil season 1 is my favorite by a landslide, and I prefer it over any Marvel movie as well.
