Re: New Doctor Who 1:6 and 1:4 from Big Chief Studios!

I used to have one that was taken from the walkie-talkie and painted by Les Walker:

I think, to date, it is the only good option.

Re: New Doctor Who 1:6 and 1:4 from Big Chief Studios!

That works.
Back to Amy. I just don't get it. Problems with the female body? There are dozens of female 1:6 bodies produced by various companies, just as there are male 1:6 bodies. HT, Medicom etal get thirs done without issue. The 11 delay was put down to factory issues, the Amy down to manufacturing, or whatever (its never really been made clear). I was always concerned about BC venturing into the world of having their own bodies produced when there is no need. They are really cheap to buy at retail, so wholesale, they must be super cheap. On a figure by figure basis, if they pay $10 for a base figure, then the most they can save on having their own bodies made is $10 per figure, if their body was FREE. I do not see why they would take on the added design, prototyping, manufacturing, tooling, etc for the sake of paying $10.

Re: New Doctor Who 1:6 and 1:4 from Big Chief Studios!

Medicoms bodies are notorious for breaking. Even HotToys had their issues when they were starting out. If BC's body designs are breaking, taking the time to fix that problem can only be a good thing. Why would anyone want a crappy body just to have a figure sooner? :dunno

Re: New Doctor Who 1:6 and 1:4 from Big Chief Studios!

Still no excuse not to push 10 and 4 out sooner. Their press release did say they were using the same male bodies as 11 just slightly modified

Plus is there anyone else beside me that thinks that if they could produce an Amy (which is a rather drawl character IMO) then the least they could do is produce (even a bloody proto!) of 9, Rose and Sarah-Jane (seeing as she was with Tom, Peter, Chris and David, not to mention having Matt star in a two parter of SJA!!!)

Sarah Jane featured opposite Jon Pertwee and Tom Baker, guest starred with David Tennant twice, had both David Tennant and Matt Smith guest star on her show, and also was part of the Five Doctors special, where she shared the screen mostly with Jon Pertwee again, but briefly spent time opposite Peter Davison and Patrick Troughton, as well as Hartnell replacement Richard Hurndall. She also technically appeared with Colin Baker and Sylvester McCoy (as well as Jon, Tom and Peter) in the Dimensions in Time special, though she didn't actually share any scenes with either of them, so she didn't actually meet either of them, as such (and so doesn't really count).

Despite that, apart from Nicholas Courtenay as The Brig, Sarah Jane has worked with more Doctors on screen than anyone else. The Brig, of course, worked opposite Patrick, Jon, Tom, Peter, Colin (in Dimensions in Time), and Sylvester, as well as Hartnell replacement Richard Hurndall in Five Doctors. He actually starred opposite William Hartnell in The Dalek's Master Plan as well, just not as gold old Lethbridge-Stewart. I always found it a real shame that he was never asked to appear on the show proper when it came back, though he of course did make an appearance on SJC, and was mentioned by both the Tennant and Smith uncarnations of The Doctor.

I think if any other companions deserve to be made, after the various Doctors are done, and warrant it in terms of fan popularity, then it has to be Sarah Jane and The Brig.

That's my point. These guys that have the bodies out here already have done all the R&D and have great product available. In truth mu custom Bruce Wayne, Harvey etc feel more solid and durable than BC 11. The builds cost me 40 uk pounds for figures and costume.
Back to my point. There are are commercially available tried and tested male and female bodies available. These are inexpensive and manufactured to a high standard of quality. I don't get why BC want to waste time and money reinventing the wheel.

Re: New Doctor Who 1:6 and 1:4 from Big Chief Studios!

I guess it's all down to aspirations. BC wants to play with the big boys. The big boys make their own bodies.

Re: New Doctor Who 1:6 and 1:4 from Big Chief Studios!

Yeah, they do. BC could develop their own over time. From a business sense perspective, use standard parts. Build up a client base, sell product, then develop your own designs. This is back to front.

Re: New Doctor Who 1:6 and 1:4 from Big Chief Studios!

We are talking well over a year now since this line was mentioned. Prototypes shown. Including Amy on a body (why not use that one) and other items.
So far all we have had is one figure. From the companies point of view, that's only one product in over a years trading. By using standard parts, they could have pushed out another 3 figures, by my estimation, quadrupling their financial income, thus funding future developments.

Re: New Doctor Who 1:6 and 1:4 from Big Chief Studios!

I'm not so sure a company can just buy a body from another company and repackage it.

Pretty sure they would need to be licensed from the manufacturer. And I can't see a major company letting a competitor use their product unless they get a major cut in total profit.

Frankly, BBC made a bad move licensing the line to a nonexistent company. That said, who knows if any lother company would have wanted the license.

SSC would laugh at the idea. HT probably never even heard of the show.

You're stuck with BC and hopefully they can learn and grow. If they can then that would be cool to have a British run company handle British licenses with more care than an Asian or American company might.

No one else has come forward in six years since the programme came back to offer high-end 1/6 figures. I must be really easily pleased to be so grateful that BC have got the licence.

As for the Amy delay, how much would people be complaining if it was out and there were QC problems with the body? The 11 body is mostly brilliant (with the hands excepted - they're hard to put on and the hands themselves don't look good), no floppy joints and great articulation. That happened because they took the time to get it right, and it looks like they're doing the same with Amy. That's good isn't it?

Re: New Doctor Who 1:6 and 1:4 from Big Chief Studios!

Entertainment Earth just got their 11th Doctor figures in. I'm not sure if anyone preordered one from them, just providing an update.

Re: New Doctor Who 1:6 and 1:4 from Big Chief Studios!

Hi There I can confirm everyone will have only one button on the back, as this is accurate to the Trousers or pants that Matt Smith wears :) Hope that helps?

Thanks for the info guys. Hey, check you figures socks...mine only has one sock. I guess Time Lords also suffer from socks disappearing on laundry day.
