Re: New Doctor Who 1:6 and 1:4 from Big Chief Studios!

I'm a fan of NuWho, but all of the new series monsters put together aren't worth one Ice Warrior. They may not have had the budget or technology back in the day, but the creature designs were soooo much more imaginative.

I have to agree with you. Even looking at the new series's reinterpretations of old villains. For example, with the Silurians, the original design is still the best.

:exactly: Yep!

Re: New Doctor Who 1:6 and 1:4 from Big Chief Studios!

Do you really think so? I know the old series is notorious for poor production values, including the monsters, but for me monsters like the Zygons or the Robots of Death have a directness and a retro charm that the new series can't match. I guess it's subjective.

No chance of ever getting any monsters other than the already sculpted Weeping Angels, I would have thought, and maybe daleks. I do wonder if the old product Enterprise idea of making the figures as rubber suits over existing bodies - just like the monsters themselves - might work.

Sorry, I guess I'm just over retro cool. Look at the Sontarans or Silurians - much cooler than than originals. And lots of new ones like the Rhino guys and the Ood, although the CO versions of these aren't bad.

The Sontaran's are relatively the same as the originals, the outfit is different, and don't really count as a change.

Re: New Doctor Who 1:6 and 1:4 from Big Chief Studios!

The new Silurians need to go back to Star Trek TNG. Hate that generic new makeup, OG Silurians ftw.

Re: New Doctor Who 1:6 and 1:4 from Big Chief Studios!

Those Silurians were stupid. Female reptiles with girl bits is not just anatomically incorrect, it hi lights the total abandonment of any reason from the writers or designers. I know, they through in some obscure mammal link line somewhere in the script. The line was so out of place it stank of someone spotting their mistake and trying to cover their tracks.

Nobody gives a **** about any of that except you.

Re: New Doctor Who 1:6 and 1:4 from Big Chief Studios!

It's a matter of opinion, not fact. I prefer the new Silurians myself.

I kinda liked the new ones too, but I think you've proven your point. Those originals are a clearly better design.

And yes, mammalian characteristics in a dinosaur species is incredibly sloppy.

Re: New Doctor Who 1:6 and 1:4 from Big Chief Studios!

I prefer my aliens to look alien and act alien. Whether intentional or due to lack of funds/material available at the time, Classic Who managed it more often than today's Who. That was always my gripe with Star Trek TNG- never mind the lazy "forehead ridges make an alien" stance, but even their non-human characters like Worf and Data ended up practically human by series end. Personally, I find that boring. Which is why the whole Vastra/Jenny thing annoys me- too human. But that's me. :dunno

As far as buying figures, outside of a Dalek or two and a couple of Cybermen, how likely would I be to buy monsters? Depends on the monster. There are some from both Classic and current Who that would be cool, but as everyone else has mentioned, it all depends on the price point.

Charming.

The classic creatures are more interesting to me. Zygons and Ice Warriors would make for great action figures.

Re: New Doctor Who 1:6 and 1:4 from Big Chief Studios!

I may be an odd one out but I'm much less interested in the monsters. I'd love a clockwork droid, but other than that, I want the 9th, 10th and 11th doctors... And rose Tyler. Maybe captain jack harkness and a Donna... Maybe ....) don't really care about all the monsters.

Re: New Doctor Who 1:6 and 1:4 from Big Chief Studios!

Yeah, as much as I love the classic monsters, I doubt I'd drop the $200+ they would probably cost except for a Tomb Cyberman/Cybercontroller. No interest at all in Daleks. I like them as baddies, but as action figures, they're snoozeville.

Re: New Doctor Who 1:6 and 1:4 from Big Chief Studios!

The thing is, Character produced several 1:6 NuWho monsters a few years back.
In all honesty, although the base figures used on the male characters was a little flimsy, the head sculps and costumes are going to hard to beat and sme certainly would not warrant the increase in price that would come with their release from BC.
The ood, cat and Judoon all look fantastic. The Clockwork droid is superb, with the reveal of the mechanism under the mask being very well detailed in deed. The Judoon is a very big, chunky dude, and one of my favorites. I've recently been tempted to rebuild these using TRU type bodies, but once I put them onto decent stands, they hold up very well on their own (visually).
Back to BC; I think they need to concentrate on Doctors. Having watched a Pertwee show this morning, I reckon they would really do him proud.

For the price point they sold at, they were indeed great value for money and whilst their two versions of 10 would not be up to BCS' standard...they certainly are the best at the moment.

Do we really think that a 1:6 scale Weeping Angel will sell well? Three months has passed since I saw them in the summer, and now with recent release updates and delays re 10 4 and Amy... I don't think they will.

If BCS are reading this...More monsters? No thanks, just more Doctors.

Re: New Doctor Who 1:6 and 1:4 from Big Chief Studios!

Agreed. The Weeping Angel environment figure? I'd pass in favor of a Doctor any day.
The proto 4 and 10 look superb. As much as I liked the idea of expansion packs, now that I know the BC bods are not in sync with the TT bods, I'm not so keen. Roll out the Doctors, and they get my cash.

Re: New Doctor Who 1:6 and 1:4 from Big Chief Studios!

Go on alibaba.com and start talking to factories, tell them what you want to do. You'll quickly learn why it's so expensive and why Big Chief is having such a difficult time right now.

I'd wager you can actually find the factory that BCS is using and ask them directly, how much it will cost to make 500 Daleks. Shoot, maybe you could even fund the project yourself, start an interest thread in the forum.

Uh...okay. Sure.

I take it you're a big believer in the chewbacca defense too, given by how much you've managed to completely miss, or ignore, my point and all that I had written, and instead just go off on a completely different tangent there, based on one single line taken out of context in a four paragraph post... :rotfl

Don't listen to him - Monsters only after NuWho Doctors are done.

Re: New Doctor Who 1:6 and 1:4 from Big Chief Studios!

Not fans of the Amy figure? Hope they move on to Doctors more than anyone/thing else?

Make what you will of this, from their FB page today....

Now that was a Christmas Special!
And yes we will offer a Clara figure, but which one...
