Re: New Doctor Who 1:6 and 1:4 from Big Chief Studios!

A Christmas special twin pack would be the way to go. The set would look splendid and certainly sell well, IF it was put up for sale while the iron is still hot.

Re: New Doctor Who 1:6 and 1:4 from Big Chief Studios!

I guess after investing so many tooling dollars into the Amy prototype they probably feel like getting some further use from the female body they created in hopes of making some of that money back again. Understandable really.

Hopefully for them she'll still be a companion by the time they get around to a release this time...

Anyway, not overly thrilled by the look of the trench coat in that preview pic (the arms look too long, and it all looks a bit too thick for the scale given the type of coat it is supposed to be) but regardless, I'm still really looking forward to pre-ordering Ten, and Four as well when it happens. As long as the head sculpts are good, and everything else is at least acceptable, I'm in all the way for every Doctor that gets made...

Re: New Doctor Who 1:6 and 1:4 from Big Chief Studios!

Well we knew were were getting 10 and 4 but after that, who knows...maybe nothing.

****ing hell, you're like a Man City fan from the late 90's.

As for the Christmas special I would love one of those outfits, with memory worm accessory.

Re: New Doctor Who 1:6 and 1:4 from Big Chief Studios!

The Amy body, after all the trouble, will probably be put straight to work for a Clara. BC need to have it reay for the transmission of the 2013 season tho.
I'm still in for a Christmas twin pack. Those Victorian costumes will make for great figures.

Re: New Doctor Who 1:6 and 1:4 from Big Chief Studios!

The Amy body can't be used for Clara. Amy is taller than Clara, thinner than Clara, and doesn't have the chest Clara has. It wouldn't look right at all.

:lecture
I don't think they'll develop a new body just for Clara though.

Re: New Doctor Who 1:6 and 1:4 from Big Chief Studios!

If BC are like most companies, the bodies they develop are likely modular so it's not a very big stretch to see how the tooling on Amy could be used as a base for Clara or indeed any female character.

Re: New Doctor Who 1:6 and 1:4 from Big Chief Studios!

If they developed (as the term implies) a female body, then it should be an adaptable figure. Lengthen or shorten limbs using appropriate parts. Not a difficult task. If they sent all this time puting together a bod just for Amy, that would have been a very silly thing to do, and I don't think these guys are silly.

As the exact 'spec' of the new female figure have not been revealed to us (Why should they need to, after all?), speculation about the AMY proto is a fair area of conversation -it beats all the waiting (like for the 10th release PO...in December? Five days and counting). I don't think, after the attention to detail that BCS have put in so far, that they'd make a body suitable for Amy only...but the description of a fully custom, built from scratch, brand new figure, just for Amy, could just as easily apply to a base figure suitable to just the one character, as not.

No DVD1, I don't think that these guys are silly either, not for a second. But they have shown a rather optimistically innocent side to themselves when it comes to release dates.

I am hoping that you are correct though, and that there are easy adjustments that can be made to convert this new body so that it's suitable for Clara's figure. As Underworld54 correctly points out, Amy was much taller and somewhat less curvaceous than Clara. Maybe the problem was partly due to there being no room for modification to the base figure...?

The only other thing that niggles away at me, is that as DVD1 says, for this to really sell, they do need to get her out whilst JLC is still a companion. Sadly, striking...

while the iron is still hot.

...has not proved a great strength of BCS, so far at least.

Re: New Doctor Who 1:6 and 1:4 from Big Chief Studios!

Yup. Amy, if released alongside the 11th Doctor all those months ago, would have sold well, I think. Sadly, the departure, and replacement of the character in the show, can, I believe, only damage sales. A Clara figure released in the next 6 months would sell like hot cakes (Victorian pun intended - personally, I've never bought a hot cake).
I've watched the Christmas episode twice now, and have taken to this new companion, and I think she will prove very popular. If so, that will only help fans to forget about Amy.
If BC can get Amy out before any new Clara episodes, they might do better business.
They have stated they wanted it to ship around Chinese New Year. Personally, I'd air freight it. That would shave 6 - 8 weeks off of the time it takes to hit the shelves.

Re: New Doctor Who 1:6 and 1:4 from Big Chief Studios!

A Clara figure would practically need a whole new sculpt. If you tweak the Amy body you'd have to adjust the arms, legs, upper torso, and waist. That's practically a whole new female body. If you just shorten the arms and legs and pop a Clara head on it'll look dumb and people will complain it isn't accurate.

Is there ANY 1:6 scale company out there making totally unique bodies from figure to figure? I mean, ones that are staying in business? I'm not being snarky, either. I actually was wondering because I just haven't seen it myself, but to be honest my knowledge of 1/6 is fairly limited. I had just thought they changed out some limbs... maybe added some padding where appropriate.

Re: New Doctor Who 1:6 and 1:4 from Big Chief Studios!

Would anyone really complain if the same body were used for Amy and Oswin? I don't buy femfigs, so this isn't really my area, but are the body shapes of the actresses so extremely different that it would look ludicrous? Yes, I wouldn't buy a Terminator figure on a narrow shoulder body but, apart from that sort of extreme, I am happy with generic bodies. David Tennant is a couple of inches taller than Matt Smith, but he will almost certainly be on the same body. Not a problem, that I can see.

Re: New Doctor Who 1:6 and 1:4 from Big Chief Studios!

So has there been any word when Amy is going to start and ship?
:dunno
BBTS says December but I'm guessing that's a pipe dream.
Maybe more like late January?

You compare Karen and Jenna and tell me there isn't a night and day difference between the two.

When HT released the Joker, the figure is bulkier, but that's built into the costume. Superman stands taller owing to the pegging in the boots. HiS upper torso is also a tweak. The neck extensions are designed to create a taller, or shorter figure.
A 1:6 base figure should be designed to be adaptable. Even the blank bods that you can buy are adaptable, and most of these are really cheap to buy.
It isn't a new figure, it's a base torso, with apropriate pegging lengths and padded clothing. It's that simple.
