And we find out where 600 years of his life goes.

Re: New Doctor Who 1:6 and 1:4 announcement!

Just wanted to say a BIG thank you for all your kind words of support guys.

Believe me we are working crazy hours trying to pull several rabbits out of one hat all at once. There's still a lot to do... finalise Miss Pond; liaise with retailers; appoint a possible US distributor... not to mention the development of the next characters in the line.

Accuracy and quality are of paramount importance to us, so we are pushing our vendors to ensure that our products are up to our required standards.

We know you are all eager for more info and I promise you will have it as soon as we can share it.

Re: New Doctor Who 1:6 and 1:4 announcement!

Good for you!, it's not everyone who would go back and watch the classics after getting into the show trough the modern series.

The fact that I ended up preferring the Classic era and rejecting the modern show entirely was a complete suprise.

I never planned it like that, I just picked a DVD at random a couple of weeks after "Doomsday" first aired and ordered it....25 minutes into "Genesis of the Daleks" my future direction as a fan was pretty much determined :)

Just over 5 years and 80 plus DVD's later I think it's safe to say which era I like best and with Tom's recent return to the role for BBC Audiobooks as well as his forthcoming Big Finish debut there's no need for me to feel too disappointed about not having a watchable TV series.

bigchiefstudios,
Great to hear you're taking accuracy so seriously, gives me hope that the eventual figure of Tom will have accurately painted eyebrows instead of the chunky black ones his CO figures have! :yess:

No wonder you got hooked on the classics, you started right off the bat with the greatest Who story of all time.

Re: New Doctor Who 1:6 and 1:4 announcement!

Can you see yourself going back to the watching the show again if the show gets a new director/writers or when were eventually on Dr 12?

Re: New Doctor Who 1:6 and 1:4 announcement!

If it was $150 I would get it. At $200 I won't. Which means if I see it for $150 or less I will be all over it. I won't however preorder it or buy it when it is first released unless a retailer has it for a lot less than BBTS (who are usually more expensive than other retailers anyway unless they are having one of their blowout sales).

Look guys, I'm happy for you that you think this figure is the bestest thing that ever happened and that you feel it is good value for the money at $200, but my own personal feeling that I feel personally my own personal self, is that the price being asked is more than I'm willing to pay for what I'll get. I also don't buy Hot Toys figures anymore for exactly the same reason -- too much cost, too little to show for it.

I think the Doctor in his costume with a sonic is worth $150. Since when is that not a lot of money for a 12" toy? What I don't think is worth another $50 plus shipping are some little plastic bits representing do-dads from episodes I don't remember or care about at all, a bandana, some paper things, some hands, and a base I would never use because I don't use stands.

I know a lot of work went into the tailoring and so on, but at the same time, there are only four things with this figure that I care about that can't easily be bashed from other sources: the sculpt, the jacket, the braces, and the sonic. I do love the head and the jacket and the braces, but I cannot spend $200 to get them when other things I think are important to the character like an accurate shirt (or better yet shirts) from Eleven's first season or even the damn fez don't appear at all. Frankly, there is nothing unique about his new shirt or his trousers or his molded boots that I could not get items that look pretty much exactly the same (or better in terms of the boots) from my parts box.

Not to mention that this is what we have all been dreaming about since we were itty bitty kiddies: A FREAKING HIGH QUALITY 1:6 SCALE DOCTOR WHO LINE!!!!

When I dream about a high quality Doctor Who line I picture high quality figures from the Classic era (and ok, Ten), but figures from the Moffat era are more like a nightmare since I know unless they sell well I won't get a chance to buy the figures I actually care about. Which puts me in the position of either feeling forced to buy figures I think are overpriced (Eleven unfortunately) or because I freaking hate the character (Amy) or being vilified for saying I think what is being offered is overpriced for what you get.

And btw, I think the 12" CO figures are great value for the money and for about a tenth of the cost are much more than a tenth of the value.

Re: New Doctor Who 1:6 and 1:4 announcement!

Tom Baker was my first Doctor, so I'd like to see a really great 4th Dr.

I've liked the nu-Who series as well. Matt Smith is my favorite modern Doctor, and you guys have done a great job on this.

Does this mean Amy Pond is close to being finished? Hopefully you guys can show us some images of her soon?
I must say I am really eager to see how you do with a female character since it seems fair hard to nail the ladies judging by other companies attempts.

Vilified? Are you new to the internet? Message boards are for discussing opinions. No one was rude or even made fun of your opinion in jest.

People replied with their own personal feeling that they feel personally their own personal selves. :)yess:)

You have my sympathies that this Moffat era figure is a nightmare for you.

Re: New Doctor Who 1:6 and 1:4 announcement!

TheObsoleteMan,
In that respect I had some luck, had I chosen something from the Davison years or early McCoy I probably would have been put off completely :lol

Calcifier,
No. I'd already quit during series 4 and never bothered with the specials yet I decided to go against my initial inclination and gave the new regime a chance which was a mistake I won't make again.

Moffat's replacement will probably be Mark Gatiss or Gareth Roberts who're already part of the regular clique of writers so it's likely nothing significant will change when he goes anyway.

For me to even consider watching again it would take,

1. A change of general TV trends to a slower paced style that's not centred round big "events" and that wasn't bogged down with story arcs or needlessly complex storylines.

2.A writing team from outside the Nu-Who "family"....no more of the hacks who got their start writing novels and audios in the 90's when the show was off TV because they have nothing new to bring to the table.

Neil Gaiman came in for one story and blew everything else in the modern era away....he "got" it in a way Moffat & co never will and it's too bad he's hugely in demand elsewhere as he'd be an ideal person to be a lead writer and someone else could do the producer-y stuff.

3.An older actor in the lead role ideally Sean Pertwee or Bill Nighy.

4.The Doctor should once again become the most important character in the show....the RTD era was all about Rose and the Moffat era has been all about Amy & River.

5.The restoration of a sense of "anything can happen". Part of the fun as a viewer is supposed to be the ability to suspend one's disbelief and buy into the possibility that the good guys might not win. Nowadays the Doctor is all powerful and any time a companion gets injured or even killed the magic reset is just around the corner....it's too predictable.

At this point the only thing I will acknowledge about Nu-Who is that it's popularity has inevitably made lines like Big Chief's possible.

Re: New Doctor Who 1:6 and 1:4 announcement!

"Sean Pertwee or Bill Nighy" ..really??? I agree the next Doc should be older but definitely none of those two.

I think we should take into account that most of us on here on this collectibles forum "would" pay the price big chief is asking for, any 1/6 collector will tell you that these days this price is becoming the norm. Most of us on here seem to be fairly happy with the price, but I think that's because most of us on here are high end collectors as well as Dr who fans and this price doesn't seem as outrageous to us as it would be to a non-collector Dr Who fan.

Re: New Doctor Who 1:6 and 1:4 announcement!

I paid over 400 for a Sonic Screwdriver, 200 for a 12 incher isn't anything outrageous.

Rounding off at $200 a figure [c'mon presenting an item as though it will be sold less than $200 then releasing it at $199.99 IS $200] one has to have over $800 of expendable cash just to buy the first 4 figures [which you may or may not want 3 of] just to hope to ensure the line will continue long enough to make another Doctor. If your dreams are answered, and you get, minimally, a Doctor and one companion per regeneration thats another $4000 of needed expendable cash. Now, if you add in the possible villains...... CHA-CHING!!
Don't get me wrong. I was really hoping on all hope to get this complete series but, at these prices, I'll be lucky if I can even afford my fave two Doctors, Baker and Eccleston, if they even make it to production.
While the CO figures were not museum quality they certainly set the precedent for putting 12" Dr. Who figures into the hands of fans. I don't see the same happening here. As nice as these appear to be, I would sacrifice a bit to get them into more people's hands.
Take Headplay's sculpts. Though they vary in the quality of their likeness the better ones can still be had, sans shipping for $18.50. A Toys City nude can be found at about the same. Thats $37 for a nude headed figure. I don't see $160 worth of costuming and accessories here.
I'm sorry Big Chief. I understand there are licenses and such but as much as I want these, and I hope I am wrong, I think you will be pricing yourself right out of the game.

But..... do all fans have that kind of money to burn?

But do they have to pay licencing? I thought they were bootlegs.

And yes, most fans who are into High-End do. I don't see the other fans (age range 12-16 mostly I've seen) getting anything other than CO. They're hardcore, man.

Re: New Doctor Who 1:6 and 1:4 announcement!

God bless you all then. If you all have $4000 to burn God bless you.
Are any of the places you folks work hiring? I've got a house, wife and three kids. I don't have anywhere near $4000 floating around.
And ok, Headplay are unlicensed as far as we know. So let's add another $30 per head to cover that [that puts ut near what a loose HT head averages] That still puts the outfit/accessories at $130-ish. OUCH.
Again, not looking to argue, just voicing my disappointment.

Really man! really? ..this sort of talk is ridiculous on a "collectibles" forum!:cuckoo: Your not doing yourself any favors by crying about the cost of these figures and having a go at those who will be buying them.

Re: New Doctor Who 1:6 and 1:4 announcement!

We don't need to have $4000 to burn. We need about 200 a month - 2 months. Spend 100 less each month and TADAAA! Magical.

I find it funny, complaining about this when people spend $1000 on statues and stuff. Just compare, a whole detolf or 2 full of High-End Doctor Who compared to 4 $1000 statues. I know what I'd prefer.
