Re: New Doctor Who 1:6 and 1:4 announcement!

"Sean Pertwee or Bill Nighy" ..really??? I agree the next Doc should be older but definitely none of those two.

They'd be 2 actors that could help convince me the lead character could be worth watching again....there are others but they're the first ones that sprang to mind.

As things stand though Nu-Who is essentially dead to me and I don't see a time when that will change....for me Doctor Who's continuity ended with the 7th incarnation walking off into the distance with Ace at the end of "Survival".

My big concern for this line is that too many Who fans are conditioned by CO's pricepoints and will automatically turn their noses up at anything that costs more even though the difference in quality is plain to see for anyone who doesn't view things through CO tinted spectacles.

From what I've been reading around the fansites some collectors would rather pay £35-£40 for endless sets of repaints/retools of the same few Dalek molds than save a bit and own a mini masterpiece such as Big Chief's figure of Matt Smith.

£150 is not cheap, but since when was anything of real quality?

The irony of US based collectors moaning about prices is not lost on me as they usually have it far better than most, but act like the hardest done by on the rare occasions that they don't :lol

Really man! really? ..this sort of talk is ridiculous on a "collectibles" forum!:cuckoo: Your not doing yourself any favors by crying about the cost of these figures and having a go at those who will be buying them.

:lecture

These are a luxury item. Not bread cheese and milk. If you can't afford it, you shouldn't be in the hobby and if you are in the hobby and can't afford it, I have to ask, "why are you here?" These are business which are being run at a risk. They have to make a profit and the pricing isn't outrageously unreasonable. If you can't put aside $50 a month between now and January or if you have other collecting priorities or if you just plain can't afford it, then that is your problem. These companies are businesses not charities.

Re: New Doctor Who 1:6 and 1:4 announcement!

Fortunately, Hot Toys has conditioned many of us collectors here to accept that $180-200 is acceptable for a finely done 12" figure nowadays.

Well yeah, but there is clearly a difference between your average high end 1:6 collector and the average collector of Doctor Who merchandise.

A large percentage of Who collectors are to put it politely....uneducated about the differences between the mass market CO crap they're used to and the world of high end, limited edition 1:6 figures & 1:4 scale mixed media statues.

Many were expecting less than £60 for this figure which is pretty ludicrous when you consider their beloved CO are now charging £40 for 2 Dalek repaints and a lump of silver plastic that was apparently a Hartnell era baddie :lol

They also assume the only people intrested will be hardcore Who fans like themselves but there's plenty of evidence to suggest otherwise.

Re: New Doctor Who 1:6 and 1:4 announcement!

I have quite some CO figures, 2 detolf shelves, sadly not many classic bad guys yet, but I have to say.. compared to other figures I got recently, they're not as bad as I've heard people say. The quality of the figures are pretty good. (Never had things break, unlike DC Direct and Hasbro) and the sculpt and paint aren't that bad. The choice in figures and price can be quite idiotic but the figures are quite good in my opinion.

Re: New Doctor Who 1:6 and 1:4 announcement!

God bless you all then. If you all have $4000 to burn God bless you.
Are any of the places you folks work hiring? I've got a house, wife and three kids. I don't have anywhere near $4000 floating around.
And ok, Headplay are unlicensed as far as we know. So let's add another $30 per head to cover that [that puts ut near what a loose HT head averages] That still puts the outfit/accessories at $130-ish. OUCH.
Again, not looking to argue, just voicing my disappointment.

Well 3 kids and a wife are really expensive and far more unique collectibles :)

Seriously?:dunno :slap ..are you a member of some other forum that discusses the typical who merchandise?

Re: New Doctor Who 1:6 and 1:4 announcement!

Dunno who made these, but they're 1/6th. Pretty awesome!

Re: New Doctor Who 1:6 and 1:4 announcement!

Oh, and sorry to ask it here but it's the best thread for it.

Does anyone have a really high resolution image of the Saint John emblem they could email to me?

That's this if you're unfamiliar:
St_Johns_Ambulance_Logo.jpg

I need it for my lifesize TARDIS build but I don't seem to be able to find a big version, and I lack the Photoshop skills to make one myself.

Thanks!

Re: New Doctor Who 1:6 and 1:4 announcement!

This should be all you need:

At 300 X 300 it is lifesize.

If it isn't here is a huge one:

Re: New Doctor Who 1:6 and 1:4 announcement!

Thanks, Pix! Helps a lot! I know 300x300 is lifesize, but I would rather use a larger format for print quality purposes.

Spend any time around places like Gallifrey Base and you'll soon pick up on the mentality I'm referring to.

Some Who fans live in their own little bubble world where CO is God and they have no idea about anything else.

Just don't ever suggest that CO are anything less than wonderful and benevolent otherwise people tend to have what can only be described as a spaz attack :lol

I even got criticised by someone for being so POSITIVE and ENTHUSIASTIC about the Big Chief line and sharing pics of a friends custom work with fellow members is apparently wrong too :cuckoo:

I thought those kind of things were precisely what online fandom should be about :dunno

To be fair to the folks at Gallifrey Base, and I'm not trying to rag on you here, but you do harp on the same old stuff a lot. It's not that people mind you criticizing CO or Nu-Who, it's that you do it all the time spouting the same thing over and over like a broken record, even when it has nothing to do with the conversation at hand. Not to mention that you tend to do it in a condescending manner, and posting a winking smiley at the end doesn't negate that. Eventually, no matter how tolerant a forum may be, people are going to take issue. Sorry, I generally try not to be so blunt, but you seem to have this victim mentality that everyone is out to get you, and that's just not the case.

I apologize. I thought this was an open forum. I didn't realize if you weren't head over heels pleased with something you couldn't express an opimion. :huh
And I'm not "having a go" at anyone. As I recall I blessed them for being so fortunate. No sarcasm, genuine blessing.
We don't need to have $4000 to burn. We need about 200 a month - 2 months. Spend 100 less each month and TADAAA! Magical.

I find it funny, complaining about this when people spend $1000 on statues and stuff. Just compare, a whole detolf or 2 full of High-End Doctor Who compared to 4 $1000 statues. I know what I'd prefer.
I would find it funny too. If I were one who collected statues or had a room full of detolfs. I do not. I am a 1:6 collector and have been for about 40 years. Pardon me for being slightly disappointed by something being what I would consider overpriced.
Yes, HT has people thinking their prices are the norm. But even they rose to that point. {note that I don't buy every HT either due to the price] For a new, unproven company to blast onto the scene and ask the same price is alot to me. :dunno
And I truly hope they [BCS] aren't pricing themselves out of the game.
Well 3 kids and a wife are really expensive and far more unique collectibles :)

I wouldn't call them collectible but they sure are fun!! :joy

Re: New Doctor Who 1:6 and 1:4 announcement!

you seem to have this victim mentality that everyone is out to get you, and that's just not the case.

I have had more than enough experience of bullies in my time to recognise that type of behavior and nothing can excuse the level of abuse I have had to put up with for nothing more than being honest.

I suppose I should have learned by now that anything less than becoming one of the battery animals that never criticises anything isn't acceptable in any online fandom but I'll be damned if I'm going to let other people dictate how I should approach fandom....those types should get themselves a TARDIS and depart for 1930's Germany ASAP.

I am 110% enthusiastic about Big Chief's forthcoming products and the fact that I was criticised for that says much about the attitude of the GB lot towards anyone they percieve as a "non believer".

Since when was wishing someone great success a bad thing?

@ BCM:
My wife recounted a story to me last night that I thought you might appreciate.
I have a couple of the CO 9/10 sonics that I ocassionally carry with me. I have a penlight too for the troughton one..
Anyway, Melissa (my wife) was at a party some friends were having (I was at work) and they got into a big discussion about "Who". These friends have seen my sonics and had brought theirs to show me.
Turns out that our friends HATE Tennant, like Smith, loved Eccleston and prefer the classic series.
They had an 11th doctor's sonic there and Melissa wants me to buy one or two now :p
She told me what they thought of the various companions and it reminded me strongly of you (not that I'm in total disagreement, I just don't involve myself with the most hardcore of NuWho fans so I don't get the same "soaking" to use a hagakure reference).
To date, the only classic episode I've managed to get her to watch is "An Unearthly Child". Beyond that, she starts complaining about the cheap sets and not wanting to have to fill in the gaps with imagination. :gah:
