Re: New Doctor Who 1:6 and 1:4 announcement!

Agreed, Viper. I like the joints and they look great.

One thing they did miss, her long, painted fingernails. Might be fixed later on.

The Doctor, is that a prototype or retail version? If it's the retail version, it looks AWESOME. If it's the prototype, it still looks AWESOME.

Re: New Doctor Who 1:6 and 1:4 announcement!

well the things I don't like are easily fixable
can't wait to see good pics tomorrow

Re: New Doctor Who 1:6 and 1:4 announcement!

I don't like the Amy piece much at all personally, especially that blank, expressionless face. Oh well. Money saved I guess.

As for the Tom Baker piece, maybe that is going to be their first 1/4 scale premium format like piece? I wouldn't expect those to have any articulation...

Re: New Doctor Who 1:6 and 1:4 announcement!

...looks too much like a 1/6 RealDoll...

Re: New Doctor Who 1:6 and 1:4 announcement!

Hmmm I was torn between collecting the maxi bust, they generally have good sculpts but now I've seen the painted Amy Pond I've cancelled my order or collecting the 1/6th line. I know its an early prototype but Amy blank expression isn't selling it at the moment. Hopefully there will be some refinements before its released

Re: New Doctor Who 1:6 and 1:4 announcement!

I quite like it. Females are a rather unexplored field of possibilities and things, there's not a lot of companies who get females right, especially on their first try.

Re: New Doctor Who 1:6 and 1:4 announcement!

I don't think I can afford to collect the companions at this price, but I think Amy looks great. I think the real hair was a good choice. My only concern (if I were buying her) would be how the tighter-fitting jacket will look over that looser-fitting shirt. It works fine in real life, but on a 1/6 scale figure the jacket might look too puffy. I guess we will see once more pics are revealed later down the line.

Re: New Doctor Who 1:6 and 1:4 announcement!

And considering how good their service is so far, I'm sure that they're listening to the customers.

Re: New Doctor Who 1:6 and 1:4 announcement!

going to make the obligatory comment about exposed joints now, just to get it out of the way.

Joints are a nessacary part of Acton figures. if you dislike joints, stick to statues and premium format.

Now that's that's been said, she looks ok. the hair ( IF IT BEHAVES ) is not that bad, though i'd still prefer a sculpted alternative.

Not sure if i'll get her or not.

The sculpt looks great, but the paint in the eyes does make it look less good.

Re: New Doctor Who 1:6 and 1:4 announcement!

jsut to make sure I understand correctly
when you pre-order from BC
do you pay the full amount?

Re: New Doctor Who 1:6 and 1:4 announcement!

No, for the signature edition you pay 25 pounds. You will get a payment request when it ships.

Re: New Doctor Who 1:6 and 1:4 announcement!

Yep that just confirms for me that the eye paint is the issue here. She's staring too far off into space, pupils need to have a bit of convergence when they're focusing on something otherwise you get that lifeless dead look.
Sculpt, hair, and costume look fantastic, it's just a minor paint issue preventing it from being perfect.

Re: New Doctor Who 1:6 and 1:4 announcement!

Amy looks good in the close up photos, especially given that she's a female figure with very smooth features, which are notoriously hard to sculpt. However, the features look a little too rounded on the prototype shown at the show - I don't mean I think it's a different sculpt, just that it doesn't look as good there.

The photos of Eleven suggest this will be Sideshow quality rather than Hot Toys which makes the price seem steep - £99 is what I'd expect to pay for a figure of this quality not £150. If Forbidden Planet reduce them I'll pick one up just to customise with a fez, the only version I actually want.

Re: New Doctor Who 1:6 and 1:4 announcement!

How do you discern Sideshow versus Hot Toys quality from the pics we've seen? Do you mean the paint? Sculpt? Clothes? All of the above? I guess I feel I can't really say until I see an actual production sample...

Re: New Doctor Who 1:6 and 1:4 announcement!

The only thing Sideshow about Eleven, to me, are the hands. I'd take some Truetype palms over them.

All of the above, judging by the convention pics, not to say it isn't good, it just isn't £150 good.

two things

firstly most figures arent £150 good - the prices have rocketed so much in the last few years

secondly it is a prototype and we will have the 11th doctor in hand soon- its quality will allow to judge further releases i suggest

oh and PS like the screen name !! ( underrated classic superhero!!)

Re: New Doctor Who 1:6 and 1:4 announcement!

I ordered the signature edition, but I'd really like to have one in hand since it's the first to judge the quality of the piece before I commit to buying more. I'd like amy, the angel, and the 10th doctor, but I'm not in any hurry.
