Re: New Doctor Who 1:6 and 1:4 announcement!

I was perfectly happy to pick up Eleven, even at that price, and just so long as the final version is as good as the promo pics, I don't see any regrets over that decision coming my way.

No way I'm paying that kind of money for a Weeping Angel though, I don't care how good it is. Sorry, but when you start talking the big bucks, I'll only lay that out for characters I have a real attachment to and fondness for, and the Weeping Angels just do not make that cut for me. Not at these prices anyhow. And I consider myself to be a hardcore Who fan.

And I've been distinctly underwhelmed by the Amy Pond piece so far, so I really can't see myself buying that either unless something radically changes. I hope that the piece does continue to improve, and I'd love it to end up good enough (in my eyes) to change my mind, but to be honest I don't expect it to happen. Be happy to be proven wrong though.

So at this point the only upcoming release I'm looking forward to and hopefully buying now will be Ten, and that will only be if Big Chief a) Nail the character just as well as they did with Eleven, and b) if the final production version of Eleven when in hand actually lives up to what we saw from the proto and promo pics. If it doesn't, then it'll take an awful lot to win me over again. After all, one expensive 'leap of faith' purchase is about my limit, after that it is all eyes open...

Exactly, in this market now the cost is so high that you cant afford to buy something you dont love.

ps no matter how great it looks i aint buying the angel.

Re: New Doctor Who 1:6 and 1:4 announcement!

Does anyone know what body they're using for 11?

As for the angel, presumably they'll do more than one version using mostly the same moulds.

Re: New Doctor Who 1:6 and 1:4 announcement!

I doubt the Weeping Angels will be anywhere near that price.
No tailoring or real clothes involved, very little accessories necessary and no pain staking human likeness necessary.

Re: New Doctor Who 1:6 and 1:4 announcement!

I really don't understand how you could buy Doc 11 without Amy. It's like Fish but no chips, bangers no mash! Burger no fries. So many collectors seem to have a downer on females...I don't get it! Doc 10 will be a waste of money unless a decent Martha, Donna or Rose is produced. As for the Sideshow comparison....obviously you weren't here in 2003!:slap

Waste of money?:lol Couldn't disagree more!:D The Doctor is such a powerful character he can stand alone perfectly well in a display without any companions.

If I were to buy any it would be Amy, but I don't like rooted hair female characters and I'm trying to get out of this hobby so I'm only picking up the last few essentials, and dr who companions are not in any way essential to me.

Re: New Doctor Who 1:6 and 1:4 announcement!

These figures have gotten me excited about the series again and I've been watching my DVDs. Watching Season 6 - the Comedy benefit shorts have Amy in the exact outfit that the figure is wearing. But she has a scarf, which really adds to the look - didn't she almost always have a scarf or accessory like that? Also the tights aren't black or grey like on the figure, but are more see-through so the flesh color comes through. But otherwise I'm very happy with this costume choice.

Because I won't buy something just because it has a name slapped on the box, I'll only buy it if the piece actually lives up to my high standards, as I prefer not to just throw my money around on anything with a label on it. Therefore I refuse to buy a mediocre piece, no matter who it is supposed to represent, or what license it comes from. And to me, Amy, so far, looks to be a mediocre piece. Don't like the rooted hair, and absolutely hate the blank, expressionless zombie/*** doll face. I am not anti-female at all, I'm anti-mediocrity.

Fact is, I would happily buy an Amy Pond piece that was as good as Doctor #11 looks to be, but I won't buy something I personally see as sub-standard just because it is the only option available. Money is too hard to come by, and prices are way too high, for those kind of shennanigans.

I'm assuming they knew this but sacrificed accuracy to help hide the knee joints, good move imo.

We don't all have the luxury of being able to afford every figure purely on the basis of 'completing the set'. Plus it's a bit pretentious to say that you should only get 11 if you're planning on getting Amy as well. What about the people that just outright don't like Amy as a character?

And no way would 10 be a waste of money if his companions aren't made. Seriously? 10? A waste of money?! :slap

Pretentious moi? :horror Yeah sorry! I'm just a sad completist! :)

Re: New Doctor Who 1:6 and 1:4 announcement!

im planning to get amy- because i love the character,
i want the 10th Dr and the 4th Dr but not sure about companions - except K9!!!

Yeah, I quite agree. I think that all the Doc's would make a great collection in their own right, even without the companions.

I'm passing on this release at the moment due to having splurged out on Capt Jack and Sweeney Todd, but I'm sorely tempted at the idea of a Tennant. I hope they manage to tailor his long coat well.

OK so don't drink and drive :nono and don't post after lots of wine:chug..it does tend to make one's views rather more extreme :wink1: I would buy the Docs without companions but would prefer them with companions, personally!
I like my female figures!:)

As for Sideshow 2003 and earlier, the quality bar is now an awful lot higher, but suffice to say, my full Buffy collection, Bond etc are all still on display. They were (for the main part) great figures at the price. From what I have seen so far, however, I do believe the BC stuff is MUCH closer to current Hot Toys standards than old Sideshow and do look worthy of the high price point. The main opportunity to improve area is the eyes, which are painted the old fashioned way and therefore a bit flat!

Doc11 = great stand alone figure.
Doc11 + Amy = Great display
Doc10 = great stand alone figure
Doc11,Doc10, and Amy = great display

Amy alone = weird.

Re: New Doctor Who 1:6 and 1:4 announcement!
