Re: New Doctor Who 1:6 and 1:4 announcement!

Yeah, thats the version I'd be after too.

Re: New Doctor Who 1:6 and 1:4 announcement!

Must have the suited Master!

I was just watching the episode with the WWII Daleks and was thinking that BCS could really get something going with the Daleks. It always boggled my mind why CO never did 1/6 scale Daleks considering all the other scales they did. But BCS could exploit the Daleks like Sideshow has done with the clones. Churning them out non-stop with little new tooling. They could do versions with lights and sounds that were more expensive and just plain ones.

The Daleks could fund the more iffy figures and allow BCS to give us some characters that might not sell 5000 units. Of course I'd rather not see a year of just Dalek variants (cough Sideshow cough), but interspersed with other releases - it could be a cash cow.

Re: New Doctor Who 1:6 and 1:4 announcement!

I want every single Dalek variation since 1963 in 1/6th.

Re: New Doctor Who 1:6 and 1:4 announcement!

I must be the only person who never really got into the Daleks. Apart from those in Genesis of the Daleks (mainly because of Davros I suspect) I found them to be rather dull myself.

Give me 'organic' aliens every time.

Re: New Doctor Who 1:6 and 1:4 announcement!

Which one would you prefer, sueworld? Harold Saxon suit or End of Time outfit?

I'd like an End of Time one with straightjacket, turkey and skull head please.

Yeah, thats the version I'd be after too.

I absolutely hated his look in the end of time, suited look all the way imo!

I actually loved how he looked in Jacobi's clothing after he regenerated!

Re: New Doctor Who 1:6 and 1:4 announcement!

I would buy so many 1/6 scale Dalek variations it's just scary... :lol

But yeah, things like that would be a great way to build up some cash for Big Chief methinks. Though because of the Terry Nation estate, it might also require a secondary license on top of the Who master license (not sure how BBC Worldwide are set up for merchandising when creator rights are concerned these days)...

I would buy End of time Master with skull head.

You aren't alone. I always hated how the writers made almost every single season finale a Dalek attack and then expected us to care just because there were a ridiculously larger number of them.

From a storytelling perspective, there is no difference between a thousand daleks attacking and a gillion trillion of them. Especially when it is just as easy for the Doctor to use some deus-ex machina-esqe trick to get rid of them in a few waves of the sonic screwdriver no differently had there been only a dozen.

And ironicly they were most effective in the new series when there was only one.

Re: New Doctor Who 1:6 and 1:4 announcement!

Oh god, thats what I felt about the last use of the Weeping Angels'.

Having hundreds of the things just didn't work for me really. I felt the power of them when there were just few as in 'Blink' was a much better use of them and they came across to me as far more scary.

...not the only one... me too.
However I do admit I have sooooo many Daleks in my collection. ;)

I think the Angels suffered form extra traits more so then there being more of them.

exactly. That lone dalek was protrayed as so powerful but millions are destroyed so easily?

Also the angels so much more effective in blink.

But I don't like the modern cyberman much either. But love the series. Strange.

Re: New Doctor Who 1:6 and 1:4 announcement!

I hated the Daleks too until 9 took them on and Rose sympathized with them. It made them interesting again, as did the hybrid that 10 encountered in 1920s New York.

Re: New Doctor Who 1:6 and 1:4 announcement!

I don't have the Who history ...as a kid I thought it was lame.

I like the new series but always roll my eyes whenever a Dalek or Cyberman episode comes on. They seem like a throwback to a cheap and nasty era where they didn't have budget or ability to pull off anything else.

Prefer bizarre villians like the Stone Angels or interesting human(oids) like The Master and Timothy Dalton's Time Lord ruler....

Re: New Doctor Who 1:6 and 1:4 announcement!

No way. Every hero needs an arch nemesis. The cybermen & daleks were there at the start, so many great stories with them as the protagonists.

The old episodes were cheap in budget, but definitely not nasty.:pfft:

The new series has missed the mark with me. Stopped watching. So budget doesn't mean a damn thing imo.

Re: New Doctor Who 1:6 and 1:4 announcement!

The very first Dalek episode was amazing, so was Tenth Planet with the Cyberman.

Cheap, yes, but boy, did it have it's charm. It's aged well.

Re: New Doctor Who 1:6 and 1:4 announcement!

If Big Chief are reading this, is there any chance of accessory packs with new heads? For example, Eleven's accessory pack could include a new Fez head and mop and that time bracelet thing from the Big Bang. An accessory pack for Ten could include a 'regenerating head' and hands; and for Tom, say they do him in his Pyramids of Mars coat they could do a pack with the seeds of doom coat. Just a thought.

Vortex Manipulator. :wink1:

Re: New Doctor Who 1:6 and 1:4 announcement!

I'm a big fan of the Daleks, but apart from in their first appearance opposite Doc #9 in Dalek, they just haven't been used particularly well or very interestingly in the new series. Instead the idea seems to be, because they can now be easily achieved with cgi, that throwing out huge armies of Daleks is about as far as they go, and then they defeat them with some deus ex machina, and there's your new series Dalek story in a nutshell. Same deal pretty much with the Cybermen, or a lot of the old school monsters that they have brought back.

I don't think it is so much over-exposure as much as it is just a lack of storytelling and imagination for the new series Cybermen and Dalek and other old school monster stories.
