Re: New Doctor Who 1:6 and 1:4 from Big Chief Studios!

Glad to see youre getting this really cool dude. He could look great standing next to your Indy.

Well, you read my thoughts, mate! I was actually about to order Nick Fury when I found this on Facebook profile of the Big Chief Studios (author of photo Jay Lucas) and I thought to myself, how could I ever pass on this guy? ...and instead ordered him:)

Ain't this amazing?

Wow, that Indy figure really stinks, and in some ways it looks worse with the passing of time, if that's possible. The photo illustrates perfectly why BC's 11 has to be counted a success, despite my gripes over pricing and quibbles over the paint job and jacket collars - fundamentally, the likeness is spot on and gives you that thrill of recognition when you see it, whereas the Indy figure provokes revulsion or derision, no matter how good the outfit and accessories are. As long as BC can keep getting the likeness right they will sell and be counted a success, whatever we feel about the clothes patterns or whatever.

Don't get me wrong CB, I understand what you are saying. I love the figure and am thrilled that it has turned out so well. I love it, bit I am not blind to the fact that it is not perfect. Of course it is not. But then what figure ever is, even from companies like HT.

Yes you are correct, there are things which can be worked on, but I am certain that these will be addressed and improved upon as the company grows in confidence and experience. They have done themselves no harm whatsoever either with their almost perfectly transparent history of revelations during production.

For the first figure from a modest British start-up company to have been delivered so well, is, I think, a tribute to just how hard the folks at BCS are to getting it right, straight down the line.

Absolutely agreed, amazing job by such a brand new company. I love how they treat the fans and look forward to seeing more from them! :clap

Re: New Doctor Who 1:6 and 1:4 from Big Chief Studios!

As you can see from my various posts on the thread I too think he's a great figure and, over the past fortnight, I've really explored how to pose and dress him. I haven't commented on the sneak peaks cause I have a policy of waiting till something is in hand (mine or another collector's) to make up my mind. There're so many let downs and dead ends in collecting that I no longer divert energies to 'what if' discussions. However I know many do so do like to read the chat and speculation!

Here's another shot to show him off some more!

oooh, hello my little friend, what are you? by gibbspaulus, on Flickr

Re: New Doctor Who 1:6 and 1:4 from Big Chief Studios!

Got my 11 today. He's a great figure, amazingly expressive! But they don't seem to have included his consciousness cube! :(

I've written to Big Chief. Let's hope they get back to me right away.

The hands are interesting. Yes, they're much too lightly colored. They don't match the face. And the plastic is very soft. But the fingers are semi-posable. You can wrap them around the sonic in a way that makes sense. Interesting.

I also agree wholeheartedly. It is a very impressive first release. However, a bit of honest, constructive feedback can surely help them progress and improve, hence my quibbles. I am rooting for them and wish them continued success and a smoother ride for the coming projects than this one seemed to be.

Re: New Doctor Who 1:6 and 1:4 from Big Chief Studios!

More thoughts:

It's an amazing figure. The body looks like Matt Smith's. The clothes have a couple issues, but they fall on him just like they do on Smith. In different positions his expression seems to change.

The hands needed better painting, but their functionality is superior to what HT and SS are giving us. Also, the wrist joints are less conspicuous than I'm used to. The seem on the jacket where the arms meet the shoulders seems to poof out a little too much.

The stand is a little lighter than I imagined, but really nice. I'd like to have a few of these and link them up, like a mini-Tardis walkway. The "pole" which attaches the base to the figure is done differently. It's external. You could have the base without it and it wouldn't look like anything was missing. The wire "undercarriage" which holds up the figure's body seems a little squished together, but functional.

But it is already one of my favorite figures of all time. I'm looking forward to the accessory packs and the other figures. If the release schedule is reasonable, maybe a new one four times a year, I'd expect to buy all Big Chief's Dr. Who figures.

And it's so perfect that he showed up the same week that the new season starts!

Now..... if I can only get them to write me back and get that consciousness cube in the mail! ;)

Wow. So many negative vibes there. Me, I like Indy . It was seeing that in store that got me into the Hot Toys style of figures. I saw the big Indy box, asked to see it, thought 'excellent' , and bought it. Great figure.
As a lifelong fan of Who, I was most excited about BCs release, and I'm not disappointed at all.
Personally I like both of these figures a lot.

Re: New Doctor Who 1:6 and 1:4 from Big Chief Studios!

I hope Tom isn't stuck with yet another head sculpt of him grinning maniacally as I'd vastly prefer a more serious look, such what my friend sculpted. I really like this expression.

Wow! That's a beautiful sculpt! I agree that a non leering Tom would be great. So often the grinning figures turn out a little creepy. Of course the 4th Doctor has tremendous potential when it comes to expansion packs, so maybe we'll get multiple heads and expressions.

Glad to hear you got yours niceman. You have had many posts on the subject, like me, indicating great anticipation. I am sorry to hear that the cube was missing, but I am sure this will be sorted out. On the day I got mine, I also received my 6 Talking DALEKS.. But didn't as there were only 5 of them, I didn't get my Invasion of Earth one !! Horrors.
Back to your figure, and I am in agreement, this is my favorite figure. That's not to say I dislike the others, I mean, how can I not like the 89 Batman? This Doctor figure just looks the business and I am pretty sure when I watch the new series next weekend, that this will not be far from reach :lol

Yeah, I'm a big fan of Indy too. No, his sculpt is not at Christopher Reeves level, but I think people exaggerate its problems. And everything else about him is aces!

It's definitely on the short list of my favorites! Funny to say, but I kind of want a Rory now.... lol!

You, want.... Rory ?

I am sure that no one is going to begrudge these folks having an actual Bank-Holiday weekend off are they? :wink1:

I have every confidence in them, when I had a minor problem with my signature plate, I contacted them on the Monday and they had sorted me out by the following Saturday. It's only their first figure, but I trust these guys will do the right thing and quickly too.

Re: New Doctor Who 1:6 and 1:4 from Big Chief Studios!

Actually, I would not mind Rory, he is like the forgotten hero who stands up to the Doctor and reminds him that he is a walking death trap. And he was very well played by Arthur Darvill, very human and understated.

Not right now though...a bit later on perhaps (though I wonder if that would be too late?). Amy then a Doctor next please...

Re: New Doctor Who 1:6 and 1:4 from Big Chief Studios!

I think the character is gone by Christmas . I'm not so sure I want a bunch of companions for any one Doctor.
I'm liking the idea that BC are going for two Doctors as there next releases .

I agree, hence my "later will be too late" comment. I only said it would be nice to complete the trio. I do think for one second that BC will even consider him. Next one (Amy allowing) needs to be a Doctor totally. Ten would be amazing.

I suppose with a show, where the companions are the viewers line-in to the show, there are just too many to do them all. Which is sort of a shame, really.
