Re: New Doctor Who Figures?

I just had a very proud family moment,

My niece has just made a video on her digital camera of my remaining 10th Doctor figure being run over by a Dalek that was towed by a Go Go Hamster!

There is hope for the younger generation :lol

Re: New Doctor Who Figures?

So if there is no good 1/6 line, what is the next best option? the Underground classics?

Pretty much. There are a few custom 1/6 sculpts about but there's the whole hassle of finding suitable attire or getting someone to make it plus getting the head painted and whilst the final quality can be excellent it all takes far too long and costs too much to get a finished figure for my liking so I prefer the CO/UT figures.

Re: New Doctor Who Figures?

I got my 4th Doctor "Pyramids of Mars" figure in the mail yesterday. It is definitely better than the original release, but I'm biased. This was my favorite outfit of Tom Baker's.

One question. Can I swap the head with the hatless one from the first release with out damaging this one?

Sure can,

The POM head can be slightly harder to replace than on the other version but dunking the neck post in warm water does the trick.

Re: New Doctor Who Figures?

I wish character options didn't have to scrap their 1/6 Dr Who figures. We could of had a decent "Classics" line.. sad

This. As bcm mentioned, you *can* assemble your own-but trying to find all the bits in an affordable and semi-timely manner is a challenge. Some of the Doctors' clothing can be snagged from existing figures, but much of it is simply too unusual to find off the shelf. And finding people who can sew 1:6 that aren't backlogged into the next decade...mmhmm, good luck with that.

Yeah. My enthusiasm towards classic 1:6 Doctor Who is at an all-time low right now. I've organized/tried organizing quite a few 1:6 Who head commissions over the last two years. Three Who ones from Ada (out of seven dif comissioned heads total), which had a quick turn-around from commission to completion but it was really russian roulette what level of quality you got from her.

Then Chris Howes royally screwed everyone over everyone last year on that front front, and two years later I only have a finished 1:6 Leela, Troughton, and Pertwee for my efforts.

I personally don't want much for a 1:6 line, but I also don't table scraps for decades either. We are BLESSED to have Barlow being a fan of Doctor Who and offering such amazing heads like Pertwee to us, but understandably, it's on his schedule with thousands of other heads he wants to do, so the Who ouput hasn't been prolfic there either over a year and a half (Pertwee).

The CO figures, which also come out at an agonizingly slow pace, have surpassed our 1:6 efforts though, and at this point has become a lot more satisfying for me because I already have Doctors and baddies from so many eras.

I still have my one lingering Neil Sims 1:6 Revenge Cybermen commission waiting to be finished after more than a year, so that's all I'm aware of on the horizon.

Re: New Doctor Who Figures?

I would be happy with each Doctor and the different eras of cybermen... and each Master variation.... and Daleks.... and an Ice Warrior would be cool.... oh and maybe K-9.... I think I would also like Adric..... and and and and....!!!

Re: New Doctor Who Figures?

Putting together 1/6 Who customs is definitely a pain in the ass. I started with Tom Baker early last year, and at this point the only finished figure I have is Pertwee. Still waiting on costume pieces for Hartnell, Troughton and Tom as well as Mr. Barlow's sculpts for the Master and Hartnell. I'd love to replace that awful Ada Chan Troughton with a Barlow sculpt as well, but as WST mentioned, that could be a long wait.

I probably would have switched over to the 5" figures if they weren't so absurdly overpriced. I know I was very tempted when that first wave of classics came out, but I just couldn't pull the trigger and it's too late to jump in now.

It's probably not as bad as you think if you wanted to start on the CO stuff now. Classics wave 2 is just dropping now, and stores like Mikes Comics have Classics One listed as being re-issued and hitting in Feb.

In top of that, theres an 11 Doctors boxed set coming out in Sept (details are vague), and the US price looks to be around $80-ish, so is a great way to get figs we who have followed it paid through the nose to get as exclusives last year.

So right now, you will only get boned on any future specialty store exclusives you may want. :)

Re: New Doctor Who Figures?

As I'm still waiting for my "Earthshock" Cyberman to arrive I got to thinking about exactly who's snapped up the initial batch so quickly,

Is it "the kids" that CO are so convinced buy all the Classics or is it us older geeks?

Re: New Doctor Who Figures?

I think we all know the answer to that.

I should have my wave 2 soon (plus 2 extra cybies and 1 extra Ice Warrior). :rock

Well perhaps not for certain but a very well educated guess could be made.

Here are examples of the average comment I heard kids making when wave 1 was in local supermarkets,

"They've not been on TV"
"Why is this the 4th Doctor there's only been two!" ( same for 5 & 6 )
"Why are those Doctors old men?"
"Mum, that man just pushed me out of the way to get at the figures" :lol

..

The defunct Product Enterprise had a 1/6 4th doctor in the works a couple of years back.. along with a 1/6 cyberman. The Proto's looked promising.. I think they've made them into statues now.

I was thinking of getting a Ada Chan 2nd doctor head.. but I haven't painted in years and probably wouldnt have the time to complete it.

Re: New Doctor Who Figures?

I got my VOC Robot and Mummy in the mail yesterday. Still waiting on Morbius and The Master. I'm really excited about The Master. The Deadly Assassin is my favorite from the original series.

Re: New Doctor Who Figures?

I'm trying to come up to speed on the 5 inch lines - are CO and Underground Toys both doing these? are they similar quality? I saw the post above
by WST re Mike's Comics webstore - I looked there and immediately got overwhelmed by the numerous offerings.

Re: New Doctor Who Figures?

CO is the mother company while Underground Toys are the American Distributor. Same toys.
