Re: New Doctor Who Figures?

I honestly forsee the line continuing with the monsters in mass market Classic waves, and the Doctor variants and a few choice companions being asked for as exclusives by FP/UT, or as summer convention "rape-us-up-the-yin-yang" sets.

Aside from the yin-yang bit ( :lol ) this would be a perfect scenario providing of course that some of the Exclusive slots were all new molds and not all rehashes.

Whilst hunting round the net for some more news from the Toy Fair I came across another example of the BBC and CO's idiocy as apparently the 11th Doctor figure is on their stand but they aren't allowed to show it anyone without getting them to sign an NDA first despite the fact that pics from the filming have been all over the internet for months and the Regeneration figure of 11 is already in UK stores

Re: New Doctor Who Figures?

But they might not buy them in sufficient volume to make it worthwhile. If a new figure sells Y per wave and a reissued figure sells X per wave, and you can only release a certain amount of figures per wave for various reasons, X has to be equal or greater to Y to make financial sense. Otherwise you're literally leaving money on the table.

If what you propose made money for CO and retailers, they'd be doing it.

You know, the goofy thing is, WHONA has stated they are trying to get solid EarthShock Cybermen cases from CO.

Obviously, specialty stores would be the people to want them catering direct to the nerds (not mass market). Haven't heard one way of the other if it's going to happen, but since CO have reps that visit the specialty stores in the UK, if CO had their act together, don't you think they could have offered solid cases of the army builders like the Cybermen to the nerd shops and they could have been solicited to the said stores ahead of time by the reps to see if the nerd stores were interested, so solid cases of them (and possibly Ice Warriors) could have been shipped and arrived at the same time as the regular classics assortments?

I don't know if their lack of doing so is because they only announced the product to retailers once it was already on the boat from China or what, but specialty stores wanting solid cases of Cybermen seems like a no-brainer.
THAT is an example of not being in touch and bad mishandling. I'm sure both Forbidden Planet and UT would have been all over them. It's not a case of realizing after the fact they were needed. The problem was seen by us far in advance.
It's like "d'uh!".

Except that the numbers involved might not be compelling for a company of its scale. You don't know what else it has planned for the mass market down the road, nor how a short run affects its cost structure. It seems simple to us, but we don't have the insider knowledge they do when making these decisions. CO is a publicly held company. They do what they do because it makes the most profit for them.

Having said that, I personally would love solid cases, and they do seem to have listened with their solid Tom Baker cases.

Re: New Doctor Who Figures?

I read an article today that stated they plan to make an 11 Doctor box set, which should retail for about £50. Sounds like agood deal to me, can't wait.

I was up there yesterday.Even an NDA is nt enough-you had to have been personally invited by Character themselves to view the DW items, which were in a seperate room on the stand with a guard outside the door!!

on a more positive note though, another company with "Who" merchandise-do nt get excited though,it s mugs and coasters-were showing clips from the forthcoming Matt Smith episodes and from what I saw I think he s going to be great!!LOVE the new logo too great piece of graphic art.

The big appeal of that set for me is what variants of Doctors 2-4 are included and to a lesser extent the figures of 7,8 & 11. I'll probably resell Doctors 1,5,6,9 & 10.

I'm more concerned with what Classics are to follow, if indeed any. The focus will be naturally be on Nu-Who series 1 but it'd be nice if there was at least 1 more full wave or some more FPI Exclusives at the very least.

Minimodel,
That's insane for a bunch of little plastic figures, I can understand the need for secrecy with the Nu-Who figures because not everything about the new series has leaked online yet but the Classics too? Madness.

Re: New Doctor Who Figures?

I heard they weren't coming until April for us. :horror

I can always try and pick some up at Argos if you want 'em earlier?
The initial stock hasn't been high though ie less than a full case in many stores.

Its ok. I already have them paid for via Mike's comics... But the sooner I get Matt Smith and Rassilon the less it will hurt. :monkey2

(who knows with play.com though) :lol

Yeah, their release dates for DVD's are dead on but figures, not so much :lol

Hey Pix, I ordered through Mikes Comics too. I saw they too estimated April so I wrote and asked them if that was accurate, and they said the date was just playing it safe since there is usually painful shipping delays and that they actually had no set date, so it could well come sooner. This was from about three weeks ago, so I don't know if you have more current info. :)

Re: New Doctor Who Figures?

Yeah Mike told me the same thing... I am going to err on the side of April. :lol

Re: New Doctor Who Figures?

Which ironically is when the new Series 5 figures should be hitting the UK to coincide with the new series airing. :banghead

Shhhhhhh!!! you'll have the Men In Black round your house to erase your memory if you're not careful!

If the London Toy Fair is any indication there's more likely to be a revelation of human contact with aliens than CO acknowledging the release of any figures :lol

WHONA is saying they are expecting theirs Feb 3, so I'd expect Mikes to be the same! :banana:banana:banana
