I disagree that Craig is that close to the literary Bond. he may be closer than the others, but only by a little.

Brosnan and Moore are definitely least like the literary Bond. I think I may personally say that Dalton is closer to the literary Bond than Craig.

Having not read past Casino, I cant disagree or agree. I think I only really truly like 3 Moore movies....the rest are just too campy or cruddy for me to like. However, one of those 3 include Man with the Golden Gun....which is hilarious....but I guess thats why I like it. Live and Let Die, and For Your Eyes Only are his best.

Pierce was better then the movies he was in....(cept GoldenEye, that was great).

Sean had Thunderball, Goldfinger (my second favorite Bond flick) You Only Live Twice, From Russia with Love, and Dr. NO.....and all those were good. Both of Dalton's flicks are great, I liked License better then Daylights. I did enjoy OHMSS as well.

OHMSS is the movie most similar to the book. Live and Let Die and The Spy Who Loved Me are my personal favorite Moore movies.

Oh, and for the record I've read all Fleming's Bond books, but its been awhile so I can't really speak with too much authority, just going off memory.

Who says? Casino Royale '67 was a licensed adaptation of the novel. AS bad as it was, and even though the Broccolis had nothing to do with it, it is still a James Bond film that uses Ian Fleming situations and characters.

Plus, I think Sellers was a better Bond than Craig anyday. I really just don't buy DC as Bond. He's a bad-ass action star no doubt, I just don't get the Bond vibe from him (and yes, I've read a few of the books.)

Bond is a hardass. Not "Let me have sex with you, and use this dart that comes out of my ass to shoot you into space"....it may have BEEN Bond for a while...but im soooo glad were out of the "surfing 1000ft wave" days. Blah.

Also, if it aint by the Broc's it aint Bond. Is Never say Never a real Bond flick? No....not at all. Its one of the worst movies ever made....

If you reverse it, it was Moonraker...he shoots a dart out of his hand, and hits a picture of a horse in the ass...and shoots a guy out in space with one.

Hmm, I think Casino Royale may be my favorite, From Russia with Love, OHMSS, Moonraker (nothing like the movie), and Diamonds are Forever (also nothing like the movie) stick out in my mind. The Spy Who Loved Me is a radically different Bond book than any others and I like it alot for that reason.

You mean the relentless body-builder who runs after tankers like a robot, jumps from buildings like Spider-Man, busts through walls like the Hulk, easily kicks the ass of two armed Ugandan terrorists in a hotel stairwell, and cracks jokes when his balls are getting battered, all with the same angry, pouty monkey expression? What a realitic human being. Sure, he's a cool character, I just don't find him that representational of the literary Bond, or even the film Bond for that matter.

My point is, when I look as Brosnan, I see James Bond. When I look at Moore, I see James Bond. When I see Connery, of course I see James Bond. When I look at Craig, I see an angry, buffed up British guy.

So Bond shouldn't be in shape and able to perform his job to the highest expectations? It's not like Craig looks like Arnold from back in the day, he simply looks in shape and cut. And for the first time, it looks plausible for the man playing Bond to be performing the stunts that Bond performs in the film. Much of your problem with Craig appears to be superficial and if you look past the archetype that has been set forth by the previous Bond's, you'll find that Craig is really the only true "actor" of the group (aside from Dalton) who can pull off practically anything with conviction and intelligence and he looks as if he could perform what is expected of Bond in the film. The most important thing is that Bond is a real-live thriving three-dimensional character now...who also gets the job done as a man of action. And he looks damn good in a tuxedo as well.
