Roger Moore was a great Bond. He was his own Bond and he did it his way and I deeply respect him for not trying to be Connery. His performances are hugely entertaining and he seems to be a heck of an individual as well. Although a couple of his movies are a little too campy for their own good, I still find myself watching his movies out of all the Bond's the most often because they're simply more fun and most of that has to do with Moore himself.

His movies made him the worst. I like him a lot, but most of his films are just so flat out terrible that I cant even finish them any more....

The Spy Who Loved Me is awesome. That whole era's cultural influence kind of hurt Moore's movies, I agree, but they were no where near as embarrassing as Lazenby's or Brosnan's (excluding Goldeneye). :monkey3

I always felt its a bit unfair to criticize the guy playing Bond based on the movie. Brosnan didn't ask to star in a bad rehash of Diamonds Are Forever.

True. But I still dont like Moore as much as the others. He was fantastic in some flicks, but then really stupid in others.
A badass in Live and let die, Golden Gun, and For your eyes only....

But really campy in Moonraker, A view to a kill (worst Bond movie....yeeessssshhhhh) and
Octopussie.

Brosnan actually had the Bond character down pretty evenly throughout, but his films werent very good....

And I dont like Spy Who Loved me....I have no idea why...

I put Diamonds are Forever, Moonraker, and A View to a Kill in a tie as the three worst Bond films. Each time I watch one I swear its the worst, until I watch another one and it becomes the worst. :lol

Maybe I'll do a marthon of those three before I go see Quantum of Solace, then no matter how much I don't care for the current direction of the movies, I'll like it more than some past ones.

Dont forget Die Another Day!

(its entertaining...but really horrid!)

And yeah, Diamonds is awful. The two gay killer thing was just...weird....

I enjoy DAD and feel it is Brosnan's second best (behind GE.) It was the first Bond film I saw in theaters and the film that got me into 007.

It was the first film I saw, but I was like 10 or so when I saw it. I've come to realize what a piece of crap it really is. Almost killed Bond forever. Just like Batman and Robin pretty much killed Batman....forever....heh.

Boo. It's hip to hate on DAD, but it really isn't as bad as B&R. Before Casino Royale, DAD was the highest grossing in the franchise. Sure, it obviously has its flaws, but its still a fun, outrageous, over the top, "Bond movie" style Bond film. Hell, I even prefer it to YOLT and TB. Not every 007 film HAS to be dark and gritty. If that were the case, the franchise would have been burried after four or five films.

Not every movie needs to have big space lasers and giant tidal waves with a piss poor CGI Bond flopping around it. Casino Royale makes Bond REAL. You can argue that "the africa scene couldnt be done!" but...in fact, it was done for real. There were no wires in that scene. They did that stuff. All of it.

And yes, there is a point where you've been subjected to so much pain, you dont even notice it, or it becomes pleasurable in some way.

I haven't seen DAD enough for me to really say how good or bad it is. I liked it when I first saw it, second viewing not as much, third brought it up a little again. Some parts were really good (the sword fight) and some parts were really bad (wind surfing a huge wave on a piece of the car). I think my biggest problem with it is that it is too much like a DAF rehash.

And yeah, Diamonds is awful. The two gay killer thing was just...weird....

That's right outta the novel. Although I think its the only thing from the movie that is.

Did you not see the making of? Sure the Africa scene was real. It was just filled with protected expert stunt doubles, angled close-ups of the actors a couple of feet of the ground, clever editing, and I could have sworn I saw a cable keeping Daniel Craig up as he was running up the crane in the documentary. In other words... movie magic. Sure it's ALOT more realistic than CGI windsurfing, and most of it was practical stuntwork, but it's not something that can happen that safely in reality. You make it sound like it was done by the two actors in one continuous shot.

But it being done by stunt men isnt doing it for real?

Also, theres a few good things in Day, like you said, the Sword fight is great, the opening is great, the ice chase is neat...everything else? Not so much.

And my issue with the two gay killers was the fact that it was too over the top, and too silly. Not the gay part, but how they were presented. I dont know.
