I don't really think your Arkham comparison works. People who buy those statues enjoy playing the games and having statues based on the game. This Daredevil statue is based on nothing that people have read, watched, or played. It's just a made up costume by Sideshow. Sideshow basically thinks that their designs are better than the subject matter that made people fans in the first place.

That being said, I don't really have a problem with this statue. However, I can get why people who want a classic Daredevil for their collection would be upset.

I like my statues to be as realistic as possible. In my mind, superheroes like DD and Batman would be constantly improving their costume, so it doesn't bother me if a new comic artist, or statue sculptor, makes changes, as long as those changes look cool and make sense. I don't need to see that modified costume in a movie/video game/comic/TV show to somehow legitimize it.

Ok let me ask...

All this frustration with "new looks"

Why are we OK with it in video games... I mean Arkham Batman was not anything like the comics.. And it just kept getting crazier.. People eat the collectibles up.

SO here is DareDevil with a bit more modern look but it is without question Daredevil. Yet its like blasphemy. Hell I wish that was the Netflix series costume.

There also seems to be a bit of the old "SSC owes me" thing going on.. I mean they just did a classic DareDevil... Now they are doing this new thing... I am sure SS will return to the classic look but I get why its time for something new and fresh with many of their characters.. You may not like it but if I was collecting Batman statues I would be happy with this direction... If I owned a bunch of DareDevil I would be pumped for this... If I was depending on SSC to release "My fav Daredevil" then I would just have to suck it up and move on...

I will never get the anger that happens over these glorified toys. Disappointment? Yes.. Anger? No.

the issue is that they haven't released a classic costume DD yet...I don't count the first attempt (which I own) as it was certainly not a winner.

do I care about different iterations in a comic book, tv show, or video game? nope...for a number of reasons...one of them being they won't cost me $500+ dollars.

I think SS would get less flak if they did (good) versions more true to the comicbooks first...then knock yourself out with your made-up versions.

The DC trio are a good example in my opinion. We have classic bats, superman, and ww ... so I would not be as miffed about new wonky versions since I can buy those.

the chance of another DD is frankly slim to none...at least in the foreseeable years to come...which adds to the frustration.

You may not count the first attempt but that is in fact what it was.. A classic DD.

I get that some were not happy but it was a classic.. Not everything is a winner out of SSC or any company for that matter.

This is close enough to the classic that I think many are happy with it but I get why those that want a full on classic for their classic Marvel collection.. Unfortunately you are stuck with either the last release or you have to play the waiting game.

It is what it is... Life will go on ;)

Pretty much how I feel.. If the sculpt or art is true to the spirit and overall look to the character then I have no issues.

I think Wolverine and Daredevil are great examples of that.

Cap and Batman are near misses.. But only because there are elements I don't like about the design not the idea behind it.

Same here... I like the first PF beter so far. The face expression too.

I don't think I made my point about Arkham very clear.. When I say they ate the collectibles up it is because they loved the game and its all new design and look. People did not freak out about the look of the Arkham Batman in the game itself.. They accepted it... Not sure why people have trouble with that in statue form..

Did the creators of the Arkham games think they were better the artist before them.. Do artist like Lee Bermejo think they are better then Neil Adams??

I don't think SS thinks their designs are better.. They are just doing something different.. One either likes it or they don't. Just like how everyone is not in love with every interpretation of Batman or any other comic character.

I just wonder why is it Ok for the comics / movies / video games to make changes but its not ok for a sculptor to try something different?? Granted we do get frustrated if it goes too far away from the original design but overall we accept it if it looks cool.. Marvel films are a great example of this.. So why not with statues? This new DareDevil is every bit as true to the original design as MU Captain America... And I would say the new batman is closer then the Nolan Batman.

I am not being a Sideshow apologist.. I hated their Captain America design.. But at the same time I can appreciate the artist trying something different.

Again, the problem is consistency. Let's take the new X-MEN PF lineup. The new Wolverine PF is a hit. Let's say Cyclops is next and his sideshowified costume is an absolute Deathstroker type of disaster. Then they release a Storm PF and her modernized costume looks like shyte. A Nightcrawler PF is released after that to universal praise. Can't you see the problem? If you want that complete line now you have to start skipping statues you think look terrible if you don't like sideshow's made up costumes. Going with comic accurate costumes gives collectors a great idea what to expect. When sideshow released the Lee X-MEN PFs, we knew pretty much exactly what costumes those PFs would be in. We knew right off the bat without seeing any future releases whether we would like the costumes of not. A bad sculpt was the only thing to fear. Now, everything is all over the place. People that pre-ordered the new WW and Supes PFs in anticipation of starting a new Trinity lineup have to be disappointed with Batman because he in no way shape or form fits in with the comic Rebirth styled WW and Supes PFs. Sideshow's classic PFs were already hit or miss just based on the sculpts alone. Now things just got more complicated because collectors may be forced to pass based on bad sculpts and/or bad costumes. For me personally, that just magnifies my frustration level when I see a sculpt I love, with a costume I loathe on it. As it stands now, we can't predict when these made up costumes may look great, mediocre, or flat out Deathstroker-ish.

But everything you are saying could go for regular costumes also.. As we all know SSC has released classics to Universal praise and some classics that are less then stellar..

DareDevil orginal PF for example.

Now I can see you wanting constancy period... But we all know that will never happen with any company as some will like it and some will hate it.

SO it does not matter if its classic or not classic.. A great statue is a great statue and a crappy one is a crappy one.

You may want the classic look but that dies not mean you will be guaranteed to be happy with the final product.. Again I point to the original DareDevil.

AS for the Jim Lee X men. I get what you are saying with the customer knowing what they are getting.. But I bet there are those out there who like some of the Lee costumes and hate the others... They end up playing mix and match anyway.

It is what it is... You are going to get a variety of looks from SSC.. Its how they have always been. They released a classic Daredevil and they decided to try this new one.. Simple as that.

My experience with the charater of Daredevil is comprised of:

1. Frank Miller's "Man Without Fear" miniseries in the early 90's
2. Live-Action character in the final Bill Bixby Hulk show
3. Affleck Movie
4. Netflix series
5. A general awareness of the character since the 70's through other Marvel comics I was reading

I absolutely love #'s 1 and 4. And I also love this new piece. I'm not married to the original design though I've always been aware of it and this new PF just seems to keep the "feel" of the source material that I enjoyed above and it just flat out looks cool IMO.

Yes I never read DD as a kid.. He would show up in some of my comics and as a marvel fan I had a basic knowledge of him.

I have read more of the comics in recent years and kicked it up a notch with the new Netflix series..

As I have stated I love this piece. I think it is about as bad ass of a DD as has ever been released.. Personal opinion of course.. This also comes from someone who is just as big of a fan of the Netflix show as of the comics.

DD, Ghost Rider and Punisher were some of my Marvel favorites growing up. I really liked Marvels "B" squad, heroes with day jobs, or in Frank's case always working non stop. It'll be interesting to see what the ed. size will be. I've always said that while he's well known and even liked, DD is not the most popular character. That may change especially with the Netflix show. Overall I think it looks cool, if I didn't have the classic PF I'd probably get this one. I do like it better than the XM version.

The OG Daredevil was a fail for many reasons. The classic costume was not one of them. When a classic PF fails, it's not because of the costume on it. It usually fails because of a lousy pose, anatomy, or portrait. Now we are getting PFs that are a pass based on over the top sideshowified costumes (Cap) and complete costume failures like Deathstroker. If sideshow would've nailed the OG DD PF, no one would care what sideshow did with this PF.

You have been waiting how long for that??

That's the problem. Sideshow has thrown their classic collectors under the bus by abandoning classic PFs and then screwed them by having EX selling rights in North America. Sideshow should give up the EX license if they no longer want to make classic PFs.
