I have no issues with PVC ( in a mixed media piece), as long as the end product is what its supposed to be. There are plenty of highly detailed great-looking PVC figures past and present that cost a pretty penny.

Check out Blitzway's recent offerings of Marylin Monroe and Rocky - they look incredible and utilize PVC.

If you do an internet search, most of what you'll see are scantily clad Japanese girls. There are other things besides that, just gotta find them.

Used to get stuff from Kidrobot pretty often. A lot of what they produce is pvc, plastic, vinyl.

I think for face sculpt, the PVC looks super real.

You can get that level of realism in polystone and and coldcast porcelain as well. I've seen polystone pieces with just as much detail and painted just as well.

The only material I think is above either is sillicone and that is only because when painted correctly it maintains the subtle translucence of actual skin.

PVC is better against breakages, polystone is better against extreme temperatures.

My only gripe against PVC is when its used for statues the companies, like Koto, use a PVC thats bendable and light. It feels cheap. There are grades to PVC though like all materials.

Either way Alex and Igo have both stated the PVC was used for items that they though would break easily. Which is understandable.

Still doesn't make that price any better.

I hate to say this but that has completely to do with the sculpt, which I feel is one of Sideshows worst and the manufacturing. As you pointed out when done properly PVC can look great. Hell the life size busts, I believe are done in fiberglass, but they look great and have weight to them.
