Re: NEW SS Ark vs. Proto ss Ark

Thats what I was looking for... I couldn't remember if there was a difference.

Yeah I am still glad I cancelled. No chrome, no deal for me. What was once was temporarily ordered is now cancelled. :lol

Sweet!! At this rate I won't have to spend any more money on Sideshow's stuff. . . or at least the Indiana Jones line. Can't be bothered to spend $200 on something that isn't perfect.

CANCELLED!!

I think the new pole coverings look good. As far as I can tell that's all that has changed. Anyone else? I can live with the mattte paint, but what's the deal with those chunky angels? I really was hoping they'd fix that. I think their wings and heads are too full. The Hasbro one looked much better in that regard.

yeah, it's better, but the gold matte paint looks horrible and the toyish poles are a turn off. Guess I'm outie. :gun

Well you can't actually chrome polystone so it had to be painted gold leaf. At least the polystone will give this piece some realistic weight and texture, won't get fingerprints when handled like the Hasbro Ark and the poles don't look like cheap molded plastic like the Hasbro one does. I'm really looking forward to getting this and I'll always have the Hasbro one if I want something "shiny" to display.

As always, pros and cons to both.

I'm just glad that they fixed the pole coverings as that was my biggest gripe. Thank you Sideshow.

I do think the angels are a bit oversized, thus the squatty looking wings. I compared some pics here at home and the angels are a bit higher on the SS ark. Just larger all around, which shortens their wingspan a bit. But it's pretty damn close. Close enough for me.

I do hope the ark in hand looks a bit "shinier" than these new pics, which utilize some odd lighting because look what they did to Toht as well... everything has a flat gold glow to it. But yeah, the new pics make it look pretty dull and matte.

comparison pics will be interesting. I'm keeping my Ex I think.

Anyone going to monkey with their SS Ark to try and improve it?

I was pretty sure you can chrome anything, as long as it is prepped, then I remembered this. (Read summary)

So the question is why did they not chrome it or at least vacuplate it (as the original ark was, combined with gold leafing.)

For an extra $80-$90, there is no reason for it to be just gold paint, nor any tassles at the end of the poles. :(

Do you know how much vaccuplating it real gold would cost, AT LEAST over $250 just for the ark not even with Toht included. And to profit on that, they'd likely charge us $350, and for the process that isn't even unreasonable.

Oh no, not vacuplating such as genuine gold plating... a better word for it would be vacumetalizing. I agree, real gold would be insane.

Vacumetalizing is just electro plating with a yellow gold candy coat to make it look gold.

That is how 3P0, The Idol and Ark were made for their respected films.

Ok gotcha, Vacumetalizing I'm familiar with. :naughty

Yes sir...that is indeed what I am talking about. If I am right that is a Gobler Idol form the shop that actually did plate the orginal Idols among other things. I got one coming myself. :whip

OOPS, Back to topic. :)

It is indeed! Awesome, that you got one, congrats, it's like waiting to give birth and see your new kid.
