NEW SS Ark vs. Proto SS Ark

It's very disappointing how this turned out. I'm glad I have to cancel this anyways, but I still do want a good 1:6 Ark. Anyone have an extra 1:6 Hasbro Ark they're willing to sell?

I believe there were quite a few Star Wars naysayers around the time of the Dejarik table, but alas Indiana Jones and Star Wars are two entirely different beasts.

Seriously though, it's just the ark - it's a background pice. This isn't a major character or anything. I mean, Hasbro or SS, both have good points and bad.

Hasbro: overall has the correct shape (although if you really look the angels are incorrect too) but the poles suck, the coloring on the pole wraps is wrong and it's plastic. The "gold plating" is only on the box, not the angels.

SS: angels are too big thus having stubby wings, the box itself seems a bit squat. But the poles are removable and the wrap is more accurate and real material, and the 'artwork' on the sides of the box look better to me, more realistic.

For a prop piece to go with the 1/6th characters -- which are more important to me -- the SS piece OR the Hasbro works fine.

Of course, there's only one way to really tell: have both in hand.

Plastic or not, Hasbro's is just much more accurate and overall better-looking. Of course, I'll wait to see Sideshow's at SDCC (if they even bother to bring it) for a final analysis but I'm not anticipating anything but continued disappointment.

It's not like Indy or Toht or... on the shelf it's just an accessory to those figures.

I'm not saying I'm not disappointed that the SS one didn't meet expectation. I'm happy they changed the poles because that was the one thing that really bugged me if I had to choose one thing. Sure, there's lots wrong with it, but for me -- for me -- it's close enough to serve my display purposes.

That said, it's too expensive.

Hey guys! I just had a thought. I noticed that on the Toht Ex page, it still says "prototype shown, awaiting approval". Maybe that's still the prototype Ark and only Toht himself is the production piece? Really the only thing that seemed to change on the Ark is the poles and their coverings. Can't see how that took so long. Wasn't there a reply from someone at Sideshow a while ago stating they were working hard to try to get it right? Hardly a big deal changing those poles. Maybe this story aint over yet. Vain hope?

No doubt, like all SS 1/6th, this will be cheaper to obtain in time.

At this point, I'm keeping my order. Gotta support Toht best I can.

But if in-hand pics start coming in from China before he gets charged here and I don't like what I see I may very well join the Toht-only crowd.

I am unfortunately thinking the same thing but at the same time I told myself a while back I would get everything SSC Indy and I would see shorted if I didn't get the Toht ex.

I hear ya. For me, no Toht is simply unacceptable...considering my avatar of 3 years. The ark is less important for me, but I trying to keep it as I like the whole exclusive thing.
