NEW SS Ark vs. Proto SS Ark

I think SSC has some restraint in raising there prices to the extend of Hot Toys. They know why Hot Toys can charge $150 a figure because their figures are amazing I think Sideshow realizes if they charged $150 for just a figure that wasn't special they would get laughed at.

They also say they raised the prices on most now because of the new body, whether that is true or not in the end who knows. Maybe initially but as the body gets produced more and used for everything shouldn't prices fall again? But then again we are dealing with more high end collectibles so the prices will probably always be going up. Maybe I have no clue what I am talking about just ranting on now.

They raise the prices because they can. The design for the Pro body was copied from a pre-existing source that has been available on the market for about 10 years, so you can't use R&D as a reason.

Well, add me to the Cancelled dogpile.

Just picked up a regular off of eBay for $85 shipped (after Bing Cashback and eBay's new Bucks beta program kick in, of course). I was hanging on to the Exclusive for dear life, but at the end of the day, that inaccurate polystone Ark would've cost me an extra $100 or so; If SS were selling it separately for that kind of dough, it would have been an easy pass.

Besides, I've always been a staunch supporter of the Hasbro Ark. It'll do.

Odd feeling, canceling an Exclusive for a regular. This was a first for me. :(

Yeah. After going back and forth, I just caved and canceled the exclusive in favor of the regular as well. I don't know if I'll regret it or not.

I wanted the Ark but it wasn't worth the extra $70 + shipping. Especially when I already have the Hasbro one and so many other things are coming out.

With each passing day, the number of Toht Ex available on SSC seems to be growing. First, it was 10 pc. Then it was 20 pc. Now, it stands at 70 pc. There must be a whole lot of cancellations for this item. I am currently keeping my PO for this item but if SSC don't charge my card for this by 15th of this month, then I will need to cancel it as well because I have a whole lot of other stuffs coming next month and I certainly wouldn't want my wife to freak out when she sees my card bill for next month and find out how much I have been spending on this hobby.

Wow. That's really sad. I think it's also that he's coming at such a bad time with everything else this month, combined with the disappointing and very expensive ark. I think if he was on time a month ago (or was it 2 months ago already?), then people would have held on to their orders more readily. But with everything else coming this month, the weakest pieces get cut off the list.

I am *this* close to canceling, but I'm going to try and hold on to it as long as I can. If he happens to start being charged in August instead of late July, I should be able to keep keep him. Indiana Fett also mentioned he called to have him on Flex-pay, so I may use that option. Raiders is one of my absolute favourite movies of all time, and I want to have all SST has to offer for this movie. I never got the Hasbro ark and am unwilling to shell out $100 for it, so for me this is the only option to get an ark at the moment. I'll probably be a little more picky with the other 3 movies and judge them per figure. Henry is close to getting the ax too, but at least he's only $90.

He does look great, but like I said, I'm trying to be picky. Mostly because of money, but also space. Raiders is above and beyond all the other 3 sequels to me, so I'm going to try and focus on that one film. I'm letting my impression of the movies dictate which figures I get, so since I thought Last Crusade was a letdown when it came out, I'm afraid Henry is guilty by association. But damn! Those accessories are great! And the price is more doable, so he may make the cut after all.

They charged the balance of my Flex Pay today (overdrawing my account). He may be shipping soon after all. I still don't know what to do with this guy. My balance is pending; I may call and see if it's too late to cancel and get a refund. I doubt it. This has been the least fun purchase from Sideshow so far. Most of it is my fault (financial troubles), but the expense, delay and lack of improvement don't help.

Sounds like you've already decided. Might actually be cheaper to wait until you get him and then ship him back for a refund to avoid any Flex Pay penalties.

What sucks is that this might kill the line...
A lot of people cancelled Belloq too... even the exclusive is still available...
this is worse than LOTR...

I don't think so. Folks seem to be picking up the regular instead, and it's still sold out on Sideshow's site. The problem with Belloq is that it just isn't that great of a figure, and the fact that both the regular and exclusive are still available attests to that. I think collectors are generally happy with Toht, they just aren't pleased with the Ark, and choose not to spend the money on it.

That's Sideshow's goof that collectors are passing on an exclusive because they aren't happy with how it came out (how often does that happen?) You can't fault the collectors for that. Much like you can't fault them for passing up a great-looking exclusive because Belloq came out poorly.

Sideshow needs to stop selling figures with exclusives that double the price. They are failing on them. They should instead just start releasing the pieces like the Ark and Idol Chamber as separate dios like the Star Wars Reactor and Anubis dios. Their strategy to sell more Indy figures has obviously backfired.

Hell, I got my Idol Chamber Exc. and sold Belloq on eBay, but would have easily bought just the Chamber on its own.

I don't think SS has the rights to produce stand alone diorama pieces like the Ark and Idol Chamber, hence the pack in as accessories with figures.

Yes, Belloq EX> Belloq, Toht> Toht EX.

If there weren't another, shinier, 1/6 Ark available I would have stuck with the SS one. But at $70 plus $15-25 shipping for a less accurate Ark it wasn't worth it. If comparison pics are impressive, I might pick it up later, but I had to grab a regular Toht while e-tailers still had him.
