I dont think I really want much more than 6 from LOTR a year though. Thats a nice managable number. Plus LOTR are more expensive because of the complexities in the figures. I will be happy with whatever is announced but I would love it to be Faramir and then get back to the Fellowship. I think a Gandalf the Grey should then be released and Saruman as the first bad guy. Then I want Gimli and a couple of hobbits next year. If they showed all 4 hobbits next year at comic con that would be awesome.

Well there's only 2,000 regular Boromirs. WOW! Get 'em while they're hot.

I wonder why the regular edition is so low? The line not hot enough? If we could just get Aragorn in our hands, I'm sure that would change.

Boromir will definitely be 'the one to get' for you guys who keep things 'mint in box'.

I was really hoping for an announcement of a 12" Faramir tonight, but there was nothing just that his older brother is only going to have a total edtion size of 3750 exclusive and regular.

I guess maybe next week.

I've got a bad feeling about this line. I hope I'm wrong.

-No new announcements in months
-Boromir's regular ES set at a very low 2000
-Still no mention of the necessary new body size needed for hobbits/dwarves
-Extremely complicated outfits; most difficult to reproduce of any line yet.

But I still hold out hope!

I have to admit that I am also a little worried about the fate of this line. Add on to the reasons you have already mentioned, the fact that the SW line doing so well, I guess there might be a base to our fears. I really hope Sideshow gives us an update soon.

Chill, guys. LOTR has a long history of profitability for Sideshow. You don't want them to try to pump everything out at once, do you? Let them focus on a few things at a time, so the quality stays up.
I won't start worrying until all the current figures are collecting dust on my shelves and we still haven't gotten any new announcements. Until then, sit back and wait for Aragorn....

The line seems to be doing well though. They are just coming out slower than SW, but I think the line is doing fine. Boromir probablly isn't as popular as Aragorn and Legloas to non-fans because he was only in one theatrical film. Characters like Gandalf should do better though. The Hobbits might not because they will be pretty expensive, but small. I'm fine with the speed of the line though. Collecting both these and SW (with SW being my favorite) I should be able to keep up with these more expensive figures because they will come less often.

Actually, Sideshow has a short history of profitability with LOTR. The SS/Weta line spent quite some time being a slow seller before it's popularity gained strength and only in time for the line to officially end. (and that was a year ago...) The only new LOTR pieces being announced are the "2" PF's, "3" 12in figures and "2" busts. Not exactly an impressive amount of pieces so far.

I personally do want to see more items pumped out, at least at a more consistent pace. Heck, I'd settle for some "announcements" with projected release dates in 2007-2008! At least we'd be receiving some news regarding the 12" figure line...

I collect the SW 12" figures as well but if I had to chose between them or LOTR 12", I'd drop the SW line in a heartbeat.

I'm sure they want to show New Line that can make a success with this license without WETA. And they've said it takes much longer to source materials for the more complicated costumes, both for 1/6 and PF.

I'd attribute the glacial pace to this excuse rather than the line being less successful than hoped.

Cheer up, you could be Buffy fans. :stake

SSC still hasn't released the regular edition size on Legolas; wonder when that's going to happen?

Yeah, will less than 4,000 Boromirs, I'm glad I've got the exclusive version.

If their 12-inch LOTR line isn't doing well in sales, isn't that Sideshow's fault? Perhaps they need to gear up their marketing on the line and get the word out to all the Ringheads out there.

I know LOTR merchandising isn't near what Star Wars is, but I don't want to see this line die a premature death - especially with what they probably had to pay to acquire the license.

Hopefully, as some have suggested, the release of Aragorn as Strider will get some great buzz going about this line and get more people on board ... not TOO MANY MORE people, mind you. LOTR's more leisure PPO days are much more to my liking than the frantic SW free-for-alls. :lol

All I can say is everyone here please tell your friends and their friends and any other LOTR fans out there that they need to buy into this line NOW. I don't want to see this line peeter out like Bond, Buffy, Apes, Highlander...

Have you done your part? :lecture

:D

It will be much easier for us as LOTR and Sideshow fans to do our part to spread the word about these lines when Aragorn actually arrives. I know a lot of people that balked at the price initially, but I think they'll be kicking themselves when they see these in person.

I can't wait to start showing these off, and I know so many people who drooled over my SSW collection, wishing they had gotten in on the ground floor, and now aren't listening to me tell them how cool this line will be too!

Am thinking that part of the reason is also their seemingly primary focus on taking advantage of the SW license (while it's still hot to warm in collectors' hearts). As well as developing new market for newer lines. Am certain that LOTR will heat up ("certain" only as in "hoping"). I CAN be patient until then (although it's very haaaarrrrrd to be).

i'd like a prologue elrond...or a mouth of sauron. really i'll be happy with anything. i dig this line and if they do a slow and steady approach that's fine as long as ssc keeps doing them.

I'm not worried one bit about the end coming soon for LOTR and SS. Are you guys really that nervous just because we haven't gotten an annoucement since SDCC? You have to understand that the LOTR items take longer because of detail and materials. Also just because SS hasn't said anything about the new smaller body sclupt doesn't mean anything, WE WILL get the Hobbits and Gimli, I was even told so from an interview. Bottom line...don't worry, just be patient...I know it's hard but it will be worth it in the end.

SS interview from Comic-Con and the questions I asked:

Will 2007 be a year where we see more LOTR figures from both lines?

The LOTR lines will continue, and things are moving along nicely, but both lines will continue at a fairly relaxed pace. The costume designs have proven to be very time consuming, and our design and development teams have really been challenged with each of the LOTR characters tackled so far. It just takes time to get them right!

Will we get the hobbits made in the 12" line and would they be a 2-pack or how would they do it.

It’s impossible to do LOTR and NOT do Hobbits! It’s unlikely that the Hobbits would be done as 2-packs, because the price would go so high! Each of them has as much clothing and gear as any standard 12-inch figure.
