I think the Balrog/Gandalf Dio should sell pretty well. I think it's the most striking along with the Fellbeast/Eagle Dio.

True enough. I know if I had the room for Dio's I would definitely get the Fellbeast/Eagle and the Balrog/Gandalf. I wonder if Dio's maybe aren't as popular as say PF's or any other stand alone statues? Just a thought.Oh I totally agree ...but even though it is gorgeous the Fellbeast/eagle is still on second chance! So what does that mean for the rog/gandy dio??

When it comes to human characters in Dio's, the issue is always the likeness cause the scale is small. The Helms Deep Dio is cool, but the Aragorn likeness just isn't there for me.
Yes very shocking!
I would love to see the Sam carrying Frodo up Mount Doom Dio in the poll. That would be very hard for me to pass up, even if I don't really collect Dio's.
Yeah I really like that idea of the Morgul Lord Vs Gandalf, that would look awesome I'm sure! Nice little conversation we're having here huh?
That would look great too. Or maybe a Morgul Lord Vs Theoden, with Theoden in the Fell Beasts mouth, or on the ground with the Fell Beast over him.Definitly
Though I have just thought of another diorama that would give me pause: Theoden on horse vs warg rider!
lol i'll chime in!
The thing is though if they done a really spactacular dio, say a Sauron vs Isildur or the Fellowship fighting in Moria in seperate pieces, or even the Treebeard with Merry and Pippin, they would go down really well so i hope they go down that route rather than more random ones like Theoden and Grima, nice little piece as it is. I don't think the likenesses have been that bad though.
Remember at the start they said they'd only be releasing 3-4 a year, probably because of the complex nature of a LOTR dio, so it's probably not surprising we haven't seen alot at once like the PF's. If they don't do any more, then at least that's money saved, but come on! They can't go out without trying a few spectacular dio's like the ones i've mentioned.

I think your pretty much right on that it's gonna depend on how the Balrog/Gandalf Dio does. We shall see what happens!
Everyone BUY that dio!!! Come on Sideshow, release lots more cool dio's! I'll buy the entire edition size if it keeps them coming!!
I agree with all of that TBH but I remember when the Fellbeast/eagle dio was announced everyone was saying that this was gonna be the big one that this line needed and I think we all agree that it is stunning but it is on second chance...I am inclined to believe that no matter what they annouce/release there is simply not enough interest in the LOTR dio line to sustain it! This is just in my opinion of coarse and I own most of the line!
The thing is they have tried spectacular ones: Fell beast/eagle and Rog/Gandy and this is why I think this line will hinge on how the Balrog/gandalf dio will do!
On a personal note:
1st dio:
You can hardly call the Frodo-Gollum diorama a diorama if you ask me. The likeness of Frodo was the best they ever created, oddly enough.
2nd dio:
Aragorn's likeness is definitely there, but the lack of expression on his face ruined this otherwise very nice dio for me.
3rd dio:
A Wormtongue looking like Michael Jackson on a bad day and a Theoden that doesn't look like Theoden... again an easy pass.
4th dio:
Eagle vs FellBeast: even though the dio is pretty huge, I bought it and I love it. The reason I think that it's still up for second change is that the dimensions are a bit too much for people to properly put it on show.
5th dio:
Gandalf looks like a LEGO puppet and is too cartoonish to be taken seriously. I really appreciate that SS had the guts to create this dio because it looks very good, apart from the tiny Gandalf. But of course, at that scale you couldn't expect anything else.
So I don't think it's a matter of people not wanting dio's of Lord of the Rings. It's more a problem with other things (at least, that's my opinion).
Oh and I might have mixed up the order the dio's came out, but you get my point.
No I totally understand your point perfectly but I have to say I disagree on most of it
1) It is a diorama because it is part of the diorama line...but this sold out so who cares??
2) The helms deep dio is more about the bad guys and base and posture of all three figures than about a lack of expression on one face! I feel that you may be reaching there a little bit to explain second chance!
3) Totally agree with everything you have said
4)Its dimensions are too much?? There have been plenty of pieces that are long sold out which have far more awkeard dimensions, it hasn't sold out because there are not 1250 people in the world who want to own it enough to splash/have the didication to save up for it!
5) As I have said in my past few posts I am not passing judgement on this until I see it....I hope it will sell out and be a hige success...I know I am certainly not cancelling my order!
I do not want the dio line to fail but from what I see I just don't think that there is enough interest to sustain it long term...people want/appreciate these pieces but enough to sacrifice other pieces instead? Perhaps the problem may be that Dio's are not top priority for some??
