True. The clone trooper onslaught is what almost made me stop collecting sideshow figures. It was clone after clone after clone. It was so boring. I almost gave up 1:6 entirely but the Hoth figures and probe droid saved the ss line for me. Then hot toys blew the doors open.
But the constant repainted clones is what killed sideshow figures, along with bad qc, crappy bodies, and hot toys prices without hot toys quality.
So constantly repainted stormtroopers and mandalorian figures will get old eventually.

Same here. I finally burned out on them and that was at maybe $120 a figure... Current prices makes army building cost prohibitive. Of course, I've got about five different Mandalorian helmeted figures on pre-order, so that's a different kind of army :)

Translated parts from an interview with Howard, found on Facebook, may give some insight.

Hates the Sequels and has no interest to go back to them, so doubt we will get anymore figures. Oh no.

Howard was interviewed by a local magazine regarding starwars. He answered a few questions about hottoys. Keep reading if you are interested.

1. His cousin brought him to the cinema in 1977, they were deciding between ORCA or Starwars. If they picked ORCA , ?Hottoys? might not exist.

2. Truly fell in love with starwars because of empire strikes back. ( design , effects, cinematography, music , story etc)

3. Loves Luke the most. His first figure is a 3.75? Bespin outfit Luke. That?s why the first starwars Hottoys is DX07 Bespin Luke, he spent a lot of effort trying to make it as detail as possible. A new hope darth vader was difficult to nail as the prop was not perfect, took a lot of time to nail that one, was a great learning experience.

4. Revenge of the sith Anakin Skywalker to him is his greatest achievement. He loves the sculpt and the dark side base is badass, the fans love it as well.

5. Recently they showed lucasfilm the Mando Ahsoka proto and they loved it. He thinks it?s important that the fans and collectors love it too.

6. Will you release all starwars figures ?

A: there are way too many starwars character, some are obscure , some are even disliked by fans. It?s impossible to release them all. I will only make figures that have meaning or important in certain scenes. The fact is we most likely base the decision on whether is movie/ TV have good reception ( promotion) or not.

For example since Mandalorian is so close to ROTJ, it is easier for us to release figures from the OT. This is exactly what we were waiting for.

7. I would love to make the bounty hunters from ROTJ, especially with ? the book of boba fett ? coming out. It?s very likely that we make them.

8. I think most fans would love EU Luke with Darth Vader outfit. However we have too much on our hand that we won?t be making it anytime soon.

9. On Disney + shows:

I think lots of fans are disappointed with the sequels. Even me I don?t have any desire to revisit them anytime soon. The sales were awful. Mando is like the dawn. Especially like Luke , he was redeemed , unlike episode 8. Introducing new characters in one movie is not gonna leave an impression. In contrast , mando?s Kuiil leaves you the impression of wisdom, a clear cut personality and very popular as well. If he were a movie character he would?ve been an extra. TV is good for new characters while revisiting old ones. My most anticipated shows are Obiwan and Book of boba Fett. I love boba and obi is set in ep 3 and 4 so we will learn more about that time , we may see DV again and the original ep 3 casts back!

10. We created the 1:6 millennium falcon since we wanna advertise for the upcoming ? the force awaken ? movie. It took us 4-5 months to make it. It not that difficult to make. Although it?s not for sale, we got the idea on how big it is, how detail it should be and how to separate it partly and display it.

11. On making more starwars vehicles?

A: We showed Jedi star fighter too! I would love to develop more starwars vehicles, however, they are too big and the factory would face a lot of challengers and difficulties while maintaining a high quality. We don?t wanna do it for the sake of it. Also Disney have different licenses for different scales, even if we switch to a smaller scale for the vehicles, Disney may not approve it.

12. Starwars is the origin of why I build hottoys. Like George Lucas, learning from trials and Errors, bring on the creativity and always be ready when the opportunity comes.

Kuiil is definitely coming since he has such high praise for the character. That's exciting.

Also the quote about how Mando is so close to ROTJ and it's easier for them to make OT figures as a result, and how they were waiting for this, definitely gives hope for more OT characters, especially if he wants to make the Bounty Hunters (assuming he meant ESB and not ROTJ there). Having "impact and importance in certain scenes" probably rules out characters like Wedge, Biggs and Piett, but certainly could mean there's hope to one day see General Veers and Admiral Ackbar.

Either way, his love for Star Wars is clear and while I'm sure Hot Toys will continue to push Marvel because the Asian markets love it so much, I think there will be a lot more Star Wars coming. Just hope there's some more PT/TCW/OT and not just D+ shows coming.

This should be engraved somewhere, and pointed to any time ST fans claim that the figures sold well:

Howard Chan: I think lots of fans are disappointed with the sequels. Even me. I don't have any desire to revisit them anytime soon. The sales were awful.

That interview makes it clear hot toys is not the problem on Han Solo figures. It must be either Disney or Ford. I bet Ford.

Glad the honesty was there. I wish he would speak out more often about figures and HT, although there is only some things he can say. As a business though, ST had to be a nightmare for retailers.

-Kuiil for sure is getting made.
-Looks like that EU Dark Luke won't be coming anytime soon.
-Confirmed onslaught of D+ BoB and Obi figures incoming.
-ESB bounty hunters coming in for sure, whether ESB or BoB.
-More OT since Mando is close to ROTJ.
-Big vehicles confirmed as just promo items

Star Wars HT golden era might be just starting!

:clap That puts that one to bed once and for all. ST fans will implode when they read that. :lol Still, I always kind of hoped they'd release that quarter-scale Kylo they showed off at SDCC a few years back.

What does he mean by ROTJ bounty hunters? Did he mean to say ESB? I guess that's a hint we'll be seeing quite a few of them rock up in Book of Boba.

RIP to everyones dreams of a Poe figure, basically confirmed dead now.

And yeah assuming he meant ESB, would love a Bossk from Hot Toys, not too fussed about the rest of them.

I can just imagine the crying after they release a Zuckuss before Bespin Han.

Sigh
That just means we will get the Disney + versions of the bounty hunters and not the esb. Just like the scout troopers.
They already have an ig droid so ig-88 is an easy redo.

Definitely Ford. It's probably time people got off Hot Toys' back about Bespin Han. They would've made him by now if there were no issues. They're not going to make Bespin Leia and Lando and just forget to do the most important one of the lot. Han would drive sales through the roof for both those figures. As much as I love the character and Harrison, it can't be denied the guy is a bit of an awkward ungrateful **** at times.

I hope we see some of the bounty hunters in BoBF. I wonder if SSC still have the license rights to the ESB ones and HT have to wait for them to show up in BoBF so they can make them under the BoBF license.

I have to agree, it's probably nothing to do with HT. Which makes you wonder if we will get another Ford Han ever again?
