I agree that it was a lame call, but I can also understand why they called it. The majority of the time when a new rule is put in place the refs seem to go overboard that year with calling it just to establish the rule.

Yup and that's all I'm saying. I forgot which game it was where a receiver was hit fair and square and they called a penalty for a hit on a defenseless receiver. That was also lame. Aren't most receivers defenseless when they are trying to catch a ball? Its part of the glory of the position. Nothing feels better to those guys than making the tough catch and getting smashed. You see it in their face when they get up and growl and flex. It's part of the game. Let people get hit! I am not talking about the blatant crap that goes on. But you have to let the players play.

Woff, Bigger and stronger doesn't necessarily translate into tougher. My point was going back into the talk about $ as well.

Bigger and stronger doesn't necessarily translate into tougher.

I agree with that too. Also they did not have the pads and helmets that we do today. Can anyone say leatherhead? LOL! Look at the hockey players that played with no helmets or face masks. Not to mention all the warriors that served in our military's in the world wars. Just kids that threw everything away for their country. In America at least IMO that same toughness is gone. I can remember being in bootcamp and actually listening to the DI's trying to edit themselves when they yelled at us. Some of it was rather comical. God forbid a man training a younger man for the horrors of war swear. :duh I really believe as a nation we are losing our strength. Just look at how parents are REQUIRED to almost not discipline their children. I know that's a rant but it's how I feel and I think it applies to this topic as well. :duff

The Saints are gonna blow it soon. Sadly, they always do. I've watched them far too long to delude myself into thinking their success will last. We'll probably lose 6 straight toward the end of the season and miss the playoffs.

Wow, from you of all people too! Where's your faith? Don't compare the Saints of old with Jim Mora coached them, to the Saints now under Sean Payton. I'm shocked to hear that you think they will choke! :horror I have never lost faith in the Saints, and I NEVER will! Yes, we have had some good years, and some very bad years. But I'll always be a fan. I guess I'm trying to stay more optimistic. You are going with the pessimistic opinion. You've watched them too long, start strong and finish flat and weak. Just because it has happened in the past under other coaches, with different teams, does not mean that it will happen this season. You are assuming they'll lose 6 games. Why? Why not keep the faith in them, and hope the don't lose 1 game this season. That is how I am looking at it. :D

I'm glad that you can be optimistic, but like I said, I know my Saints. They are my team and I am a huge fan, but they always find a way to disappoint in the end. I think I was scarred as a child and will never have faith in them :lol

As an aside, they should bring back Morten Anderson to replace John "misses extra points" Carney.

That's great that you have taken personal ownership of the Saints as a fan. So have I. I've been a die-hard fan, through the "thick and the thin" since I was a kid in the 1970s. Yes, I will stay optimistic and hope for the best. Yes, the Saints have disappointed us in the past, but they have also made us happy and very proud! We were all proud of the after the 2006 season making it to the first round of the playoffs. That loss to the Bears in Chicago that year was a true heart breaker! :(

So, I am hoping they go further than that this season. I will keep the faith. I will keep my optimism. :D

As for Morten Andersen, the Saints organization is inducting him into the Saints Hall Of Fame at an upcoming luncheon ceremony.

Morten is the Saints all-time leading scorer. He was called "Mr. Automatic". I had the privilege to meet him, and former Saints great running back Dalton Hilliard at a small sports cards store last year.
It was a thrill for me to meet two of my favorite Saints players there and get their autographs.

Anyway, I still think the Saints will continue to win games this season. I'm sick and tired of the start strong and then choke/give up syndrome. Now it is time to win, like they've done so far being at 4-0 at their bye week this week. :D

To JediMike, I do have a small bit of hope, but like I said before, having seen what I have year after year after year, I just don't think I'll change my way of thinking until they actually make it to the big dance. That loss to the Bears was crushing, though.

The only time I found myself pulling against the Saints was when Anderson was playing for the Falcons. As a kid, he was the best Saints player, and was my favorite Saints player (I had his football cards, I even had a Times-Picayune article on him laminated on my wall :D ). When he left, I was actually pretty devastated, even though he was getting up there in age. Of course, he played at a high level for several years afterward. If any Saint belongs in the Hall of Fame beyond Tom Dempsey, it is Anderson. Then Willie Roaf. Glad to see Anderson getting the inevitable reward for what he did for our team.
