For those saying Oakland overpaid for Palmer, would you trade two of the following players for Palmer:

Derrick Gibson, Safety
Phillip Buchanon, Cornerback
Nnamdi Asomugha, Cornerback
Robert Gallery, Tackle
Fabian Washington, Cornerback
Michael Huff, Safety
JaMarcus Russell, Quarterback
Darren McFadden, Running Back
Darrius Heyward-Bey, Wide Receiver
Rolando McClain, Linebacker

There are a few gems in that list, but for the most part, Oakland has not been very good with their 1st round picks.

Yep. The only players still with Oakland are Huff, McFadden, Heyward-Bey and McLain, correct?

What compensatory picks are the Raiders getting for Asomugha and Gallery?

No they could not. Denver would not trade Orton to a division rival.

What makes you say that??? What I've read said they would be fine with it. They only play them once more this year anyway and Denver has no pretense of making the playoffs this year. And Orton being a FA next year...no reason for Denver to care who he went to since he gets to decide next year anyway.

A good portion of their starting players were acquired through free agency. Sure, they've drafted well over the last couple of years but there's been more misses than hits in the last 5-8 drafts.

They're going for it... The O-Line is young, the Backs and Receivers are all dangerous and Boss is a damn nice TE who has filled in great for Miller. If Palmer can grasp the playbook quickly they may be tough to contend with. I'm excited for my Raider fan buddies.

1, you can't go in thinking your next pick is going to be abust anyway, might as well trade it because your other picks were bad.
2, the guy who made all those bad picks is dead.

If this costs them a top 15 draft pick that could have been used on someone like Matt Barkley...how long does Palmer have left? 3 years max.

And Zach Miller.... have the compensatory picks even been announced yet?

They haven't been announced yet. Should be at least 2 3rd rounders.

It won't cost them a top 15 draft pick. Oakland's pick will, at a minimum, be in the 20-24 range next year.
I thought Miller left? :dunno

Isn't that why Oakland picked up Kevin Boss, to replace Miller?

Yes, Miller left via free agency and thus Oakland may get a 3rd compensatory pick for him next draft.

Oops, totally misunderstood / misread your statement / question, Flosi. My followup statement makes no sense now.

Thanks for the clarification.

Late to the party but...............

Ugh! :slap I'm a Raiders fan also. That organization make things so hard on us fans.

JaMarcus Russell, Darrius Heyward-Bey and now this. Two 1st round picks for Carson Palmer, a 31 year old QB on his last legs? Yes, that second conditional pick will turn into a 1st round pick because I think the Raiders will win a playoff game this year.

Who is calling the shots for the Raiders? Al's kid, Ron Wolf, John Madden?

You know you've been scammed when you make the Bungles owner Mike Brown look like a genius.

They have to make AFC championship game in next two years for the conditional pick to kick in.

As a Raiders fan I'm okay with this trade even though we overpaid. Our track record with 1st round picks over the last 10 years has been spotty at best. So far, only two of those picks have turned into stars: McFadden and Asomugha....the verdict is still out on McClain.

Hell, I would gladly package any combination of 2 or 3 of the remaining 7 for Palmer.

As for Palmer being on his last legs.....keep these in mind:

Kurt Warner...was much oldere than Palmer
Jim Plunkett...1 year older than Palmer and had been out of the league 1 year.
Daryle Lamonica

All of these guys had been written off as past there prime, etc and proved everyone wrong.

I say give Carson a chance before he's written off.

Yes and no. I was incorrect about winning a playoff game. Looks like they have to make it to the AFC Championship this season and not within the next two years.

From Espn.com:

"That changed Tuesday when Oakland got Palmer from Cincinnati, shipping a 2012 first-round pick and a second-rounder in 2013 that could become a first-round selection if the Raiders make it to the AFC title game this season."

Just because the track record has been spotty (1st round) in the past doesn't mean it will continue in the future, especially with Al Davis passing on.

Don't get me wrong, there's nothing more I'd love to see than the Raiders bring back their glory years.

But the last time Carson Palmer was any good was before he laid in a crumpled heap during that playoff loss to the Steelers.

Sure, could he have something left. Am I counting on it, no. The price they paid was just too damn heavy. Hope I'm wrong.
