Yeah, I knew he would start, but I overheard the guys on NFL network talking about if Brady is getting close to the record they would keep Brees in or bring him back off the bench. I couldn't hear everything they were saying though because I was in a restaurant.

Coach Payton said today with the New Orleans media, that they will go full speed against Carolina. I take that as that Drew Brees will start, along with Darren Sproles, Jimmy Graham, and the rest of the 1st string starters. He said they've hit their stride later in the season this year, and he doesn't want to pull back after having won 7 games in a row. :) He said, and I will use quotes here since I am quoting the coach from the press conference. "We are going to play all of our guys Sunday....We are full speed ahead".

I didn't hear him say anything about Tom Brady, or what he called the other game. My understanding is that the other game is the 49ers vs Rams game. If the Rams end up beating the 49ers, and the Saints beat the Panthers, then the Saints would claim the 2nd seed under Green Bay in the N.F.C. playoff standings. Even though it is unlikely that the Rams will beat the 49ers. But my team took the Rams for granted, and lost. Now they've really learned their lesson not to take any team lightly anymore.

I don't think you will hear a coach say I am playing him for a record he already broke. He will start and play whole game unless somehow Rams game is a blowout, they are still playing for a bye. Now if Brady gets close you bet your azz he will go back in or the offense we open back up but he would never say so.

Loss vs Raiders in WC round :)

And under what scenario do you think Oakland is making the playoffs? :lol:rotfl:lol

OAKLAND RAIDERS

Oakland clinches AFC West Division:

1) OAK win + DEN loss or tie

2) OAK tie + DEN loss

Oakland clinches a wild-card spot:

1) OAK win + CIN loss + TEN loss or tie

2) OAK win + CIN loss + NYJ win

So sprig, as the resident Steelers guy, what's your outlook for your team in the playoffs? Are we talking Super Bowl material, conference championship loss, one and done? Give me the scoop!
Well, Ben is adamant about starting Sunday. If he starts and gets hurt and misses the play-offs, then IF they slide into a division title and 1st round bye, then I can see a one-and-done. If they only make a WC slot and he's out, then I could see making it to the divisional round but losing it there. Batch is a solid back-up from time-to-time, but I honestly can't see him going to (let alone winning) a Super Bowl.

If they rest Woodley and Ben, and get the Division title and 1st round bye, then I think it's highly likely seeing a repeat Super Bowl appearance from them, but if they only secure a WC slot I can see them making it but it would be tough, maybe even possible Conference Championship appearance but losing.

All-in-all, they have the talent and capability to make it and win it, but the biggest concern to me at this point is health. It's a lot easier for offenses to adjust their blocking schemes to limit Harrison if Woodley is out, but if they both play and are healthy that can prove to be a little too much for most teams to handle. If Batch starts and Ben has another week with that 1st round bye to heal up, then that proves to be their best bet.

Of course, all of this is my homer thoughts about my favorite team. I'm not guaranteeing a damn thing like some members do *cough-cough* JediMike *cough-cough*, and it's possible that if Baltimore's run game and D show up every week that you could see Flacco pull a 2000 Trent Dilfer, and with Tom Brady tossing to Welker and those 2 tight ends of his it's also completely plausible seeing Tom-Terrific get a possible 4th ring. Come the play offs, it's truly anyone's game ..........
Loss vs Raiders in WC round :)
........... except the Raiders :D

Thanks for the scoop!

That one.

I badly want the Raiders to get in.

However, knowing them this could happen.....

Chiefs beat the Broncos and the Raiders lose to the Chargers. :horror...........:rotfl :rotfl :rotfl

I am bummed. I forgot to submit my picks for the final regular season week for my two pick 'em pools. However, I had such an attrocious year this year that I wonder if I didn't do it intentionally on a subconcious level.

This, mixed with my fantasy team losing the conference championship and missing the Superbowl by a game, leaves me with a bitter chip on my shoulder for the next football season to get started.

It will be a long 7 months.

So, Pro Bowl selections. Who gut snubbed, and who's just making it off of their name.

As far as the Steelers, I'd say Polamalu makes it off of his name and no other strong candidates at the position. His statistics don't show how well he actually plays, and Lebeau is planning him out more so they don't lose every game he doesn't start like most seasons past, but he's still been a far cry from what he was even last season.

Ben was a big surprise for me. Even seasons he had a Pro Bowl caliber year he got snubbed because he's not the most popular guy. He doesn't put the big stats up like Brady or a healthy P. Manning, but he gets it done like no other.

Most people would say Woodley and Harrison got snubbed, but with injuries sidelining them for big chunks of the season I think it's only fair that someone else who played the season through get the nod.

Pouncey and Wallace are going to see a lot of Pro Bowls, and it was good to see the Steeler's team MVP, Antonio Brown, get in as a kick/punt returner. Next season he should get in as a receiver, because he's really been coming into his own these past couple of weeks and almost taking games over.

As far as the AFC, I'd say Freeney and Ray Lewis get in off of their past accomplishments. Freeney has had good games this season, but has not looked anywhere close to the dominant pass-rusher he has been in the past. Lewis is out of shape and pretty much just cleans plays up for the most part. He does still make plays, but he's more of a defensive coordinator on the field. He's great at diagnosing a play and putting the others into position to make plays, but watching him a lot this season he just seemed a half a step behind everyone else. It almost looks like he's running under water, he's so slow.

Oh, and how the heck does Phillip Rivers get in on this season? For the most part, he's been terrible!!! He must be doing something I'm not seeing.

Of the 8 Patriot Pro Bowlers, the one I'm happiest about is Matthew Slater. The guy seems like such a hard worker on the field and does quite a bit off too. He may be just a special-teamer, but it's great to see him recognized.
