Two new rules were adopted today that I'm glad to see come in.

"all turnovers are automatically reviewed without challenge"
"regular season overtime scoring is now the same as postseasons"

How so? They seem to put a lot back into the community.

I don't mean that, I just mean how they market and design jerseys and shoes and that stuff. I see too many, in my opinion, pathetic Oregon jerseys and all the crap with the Air Jordan shoes I am just sick of it all. I guess I am just to old for their marketing anyway. :) If I ever see Oregon Duck inspired Tampa Bay Buccaneers jerseys I'm going to cry.

They also changed to many men on the field to a dead ball foul.

Now if they would just let the booth handle replays vs having ref come look in pep show booth.

Here are a few rule changes I'd like to see;

Pass Interference is a 15 yd penalty. If it happens inside that, then it's placed at the spot of the foul.

Illegal contact is not an automatic 1st down (hate it when a team is at 3rd and 30 and they get a cheap 1st down off a 5 yd penalty).

Start calling the receivers shoving off the pass defenders more. Hate it when a receiver is doing what would get the DB a flag if they were doing it, and it's let go. Not really a rule change, but it needs to stop being so one sided out there.

Make the chop block so that anytime a defender is engaged up high, no other blocker can engage him down low. They take so many measures every season to protect offensive players, but don't take any big steps to protect defensive players. I think this would be a huge one to help even it out some.

Make the OT rule that the team's possession starts on a kick off, but doesn't end if the 1st possession results in a TD. Do it more like college, but not starting from the 25 yd line. Give the other team an opportunity to match the points. They say they want to give both teams the opportunity to possess the ball, but if the 1st possession is a TD, then the other team doesn't get a possession. If both possessions result in a tying score, then it keeps going until one team can't match the others score, like college, but starting with a KO.

Do away with coaches challenges all together and just do what's done in college games with the review system.

Make certain penalties reviewable. It's sickening that a close games outcome is ultimately decided by a blown call from an official, when Stevie Wonder could watch the review and see it didn't happen. An apology from the League the next day does nothing if that loss cost the team a play off spot. One of the most recent bad calls that did affect the outcome of a game that comes to mind was back in '08, I think. Chargers @ Broncos. Jay Cutler clearly fumbled the ball and it was then clearly recovered by Merriman before going out of bounds, but Ed Hoculi blew the play dead as it was still happening, negating that turnover that would have sealed a Chargers victory. If I'm correct, that did lead to a minor rule change that even if it's blown dead, if there is a clear fumble and recovery it could be reviewed and properly rewarded, but the fact of the matter is that it happens all the time and affects games outcome- like when the 49ers beat the Giants in that WC game off a botched FG snap, and they called the Giants for ineligible receiver downfield, when in all reality he reported as an eligible receiver before the play so the 49ers should have been called for pass interference and the Giants allowed to do the play over again. The League admitted to their mistake the next day, but it didn't change the fact that it knocked the Giants out of the play offs.

:clap:clap:clap:clap:clap

Now bring back regular kick offs.

Really! If they're trying to up the possibility of a touch back to better protect players, then just save it and put the freaking ball at the 20! I hate the ball being kicked from the 35. Move it back where it was!

THIS!!!! :exactly:

The single most ridiculous, game altering penalty in the NFL...

Well...that's a pretty tough one. It is bad to assume that, untouched, the reciever would 100% catch the ball (I've watched Brandon Marshall for 2 years now and Ted Ginn previous to that). At the same time, if it's "only" going to cost you 15 yards to save a potential TD, DBs are going to climb WRs ALL DAY!

I see the logic in that as well... I guess what pisses me off is when PI is called and it's not one of those situations were the DB has no other choice.... There's contact but otherwise a catch is far from a forgone conclusion.

Maybe a rule that PI is a reviewable call would help. But, it can be very subjective. Sometimes officials will see it as incidental or just plain let men be men on the football field, for once.

I understand offense puts butts in the seats, but we're seeing it start already, that offense is going to get out of control. Matthew Stafford, of the DETROIT LIONS almost surpased Marino's yardage mark in the same year that Brees destroyed it. This has post lockout MLB written all over it.

Well, the league always goes in cycles and we're looking at a pass happy league right now. Teams will adapt their defense to today's pass first offenses at some point, then teams will start to run again, and so on... Still, good defenses are still out there, there's just not a lot of them right now.

I just hate when a team picks up cheap yardage by pretty much telling a receiver to go down field on a go route, and make contact and draw a penalty. Now a team that couldn't move the ball for crap just got a 50-60 yd pick up, and a possible score to follow, with absolutely zero talent involved. It's happening more-and-more and it's helping teams that shouldn't win, win.

With all these rule changes protecting the offenses and tying the defenses hands behind their backs, I'm losing more interest in the NFL every year.

Another BS change that irks me every week during the season is "hitting a defenseless receiver". So what, are they supposed to stand there and make sure they catch the ball and land before they hit them? Some of those officials are border line retarded or just flat out hate certain teams/players. You watch one guy lay a good hit, or just a bang-bang play, and they draw a flag and the commentators are making it sound like the guy just mugged a 78-year-old nun, and then the NFL adds insult to injury by fining them, when later that night or the next week, the exact same thing happens in another game, and no flag and those commentators are praising how perfect a hit it was.

The fan base that Goodell has sucked in with his soon-to-be-flag-football rule changes is getting about disgusting. They get on believing everything they read and see from these sport analysts that someone dubbed as "experts", and blab about this QB breaking 50 year old records, and that receiver being a "beast" because defenders can't properly defend anymore. It's always "it's in the stats" to solidify their bias opinions. Having to listen to "this offense would destroy that defense from the '70s/'80s".

Just put robots out there and let's go back to the old rules. That way no players get hurt and it's tackle football again.

I think the college rule would be a huge improvement in the NFL regarding pass interference. But, the NFL likes its teams to score lots of points, and the existing rule allows for more of that.

Exactly, and it also allows for 4th quarter, last second game winning drives. It'll never change.

Anyone follow that greatest team of all time bracket on NFL.com, where "fans" are voting on it? The '76 Raiders and '00 Ravens are the final 2 teams. The Ravens beat out the '84 49ers to go to the final, and the Raiders beat out the '85 Bears to go. That's what happens when you let bias fans hanging on to a team's one moment of glory vote. You end up with retarded results like that.

I don't think they even made it out of the 1st round. As a fan I don't think any teams were beating the Bears in that '85 post season. Back-to-back shut outs in the play offs, and 10 points in the Super Bowl. That '00 ravens D couldn't sniff that glory if they actually had to face HOF caliber QBs that season.
