What I don't understand is how every single week, multiple guys win PLAYER of the game? Always thought benching Smith was lame, but I guess Kaepernick has proven hes here to stay. NE used all their energy getting to the tie.

Kaepernick and Smith are virtually identical statistically so I'd still go back to Smith for experience. He won them the playoff game last year and would have been in the Super Bowl if Williams hadn't fumbled that punt. This decision will catch up with Harbough.

Yeah, I tend to agree. This Kaepernick thing could ultimately blow up in the 49ers' faces. I know they're all excited about him right now, but this is risky business Harbaugh is playing. And I'm not talking just this year.

Idk, don't care too much cause I'm just a general football fan rooting for the local team, but Kaepernick has beaten down some tough ass teams on the road, and has made minimal mistakes. The only thing I noticed is he let's the play clock get down too often, forcing them to take timeouts. It's a lousy situation for smith, but I don't see him coming back unless Kaepernick gets hurt. I also thought it may blow up in harbaughs face, but I don't know.

49ers don't seem to have a killer instinct. Going into that zone shell always hurts them when they are nursing leads. Granted, they usually don't have big leads like they did tonight, but they need to learn not to take their foot off the gas (especially in the third quarter against a guy like Tom Brady). They almost deserved to lose. But I give them credit for clamping down at the end. Great game for Crabtree.

I've talked so much in other forums about the Alex Smith/Kaepernick debate, so I'll simply summarize. Any respectable QB could have Alex Smiths stats by throwing check-downs all the time. Nobody was scared of our offense with Smith as QB...Kaepernick can burn you down the field though. I know Kaepernick has some issues (what the hell was with the snap fumbles tonight!?), but I'm not sure if Alex could have really hit any of those TD passes tonight except maybe Crabtree's second. His deep ball is awful. I like Alex Smith for his pre-snap reads and his thick-skin (he's definitely a fighter and a classy individual) but he had no explosive capability and took too many sacks that killed our drives. I fell terrible for Alex, but I think I trust Harbough. The man has always produced QB's.

Smith averaged 22.8 offensive points per game this season
Kaepernick has averaged 21.8 offensive points per game this season

Smith is 60.8% in the red zone
Kaepernick is 47% in the red zone

Smith is averaging 8 per pass with 13 TD, 5 int, 4 fumbles, QBR 70.1, QB rating 104, completion % 70, 177.1 yards a game

Kaepernick is averaging 8.4 per pass with 7 TD, 2 int, 9 fumbles, QBR 79.5, QB rating 101, completion % 65.6, 108.5 yards a game

Smith averages 14.9 rushing yards a game
Kaepernick averages 34.5 rushing yards a game

Smith has been sacked 11% of his attempts
Kaepernick has been sacked 9% of his attempts

Stats don't lie. There is no significant advantage to Kaerpernick and a massive disadvantage in experience, especially come playoff time.
