Glad someone else here witnessed that. What an ass hat Gary is. Dodged every single question and basically called Ron a liar. What a piece of ____.

I actually enjoy listening to Bettman. He is an excellent debater. Journalists really have to be on top of their game otherwise Bettman will find a way to zone in on that minute inconsistency or inaccuracy and propel the conversation into a new direction. This guy is no slouch. Make no mistake, he is a sharp fellow. Ron McLean may have been out of his depth. McLean isn't the hard-nosed journalist he apparently thinks he is.

While Bettman may not see launching new teams in Canada as a forward moving step for the NHL, ultimately, I do think his endgame is to popularize the sport as much as possible in the US. That's not necessarily a bad thing. In his mind, there's no challenge to okaying a team in Winnipeg. However, creating a successful franchise in Memphis might be something he could sink his teeth into -- even if it might not make sense on the surface.

As much as I would love to see more teams in Canada, under Bettman's watch, it probably isn't likely unless someone moves a team there, and even then, it would be a hard sell.

Uncle Pete Chiarelli comes through for Shawn Thornton, 2 year deal, $812,500 AAV.:banghead

I guess somebody needs to protect Hall/Seguin when they get here. Might as well be the cuddliest enforcer around.:slap

Someone caught Stephen Brunt on team 990 :)

So true, this guy will try and try till he fails to make hockey more successful in the US, but that wont happen in 50% of those markets. At some point with the owners losing money, they will get him to move teams to Canada if it means more money for them.

As for the winter classic, think it should have been New York Rangers against someone, but that someone was the problem. So Pens vs Caps in Heinze field makes sense, this is a money gimmick afterall

They couldn't get Yankee Stadium since there's a college football bowl game being played there around new year's day. Of course they could have had it at Bailout Field in Queens.

Heinz should work out nicely. The sight-lines should be much better than they were at Fenway at the very least.

I love Brunt's segments with Mitch. I find that 90% of the time, I agree with (and usually already shared) Brunt's interpretation of things. This guy has a refreshing way of articulating the latest in sports news without it seeming like a blanket fact or statement. There's always room for discussion. I would imagine that he enjoys every sports journalist dream career. What a wealth of experience and knowledge.

So true, I sometimes leave the office at 4:20 just to catch his segment

Hey, we agree on something, but the Habs will still be scrambling for 8th next year :wink1:

I've liked Brunt's last two books. I'd give the edge to Searching for Bobby Orr over Gretzky's Tears though.

Alien Warrior Maquette

While watching the game, I finally got around to taking pics of the Alien Warrior Maquette.
If any of you are on the fence, it truly is a wonder to behold. What do you guys think?

Yeesh... This is still a Sideshow forum. Posting the occasional pic of a cool new statue arrival shouldn't get panties in a bunch.

:D

Pronger getting the pucks is scaring Neimi.:exactly:

Despite his temper, occasional cheap shot, and game suspensions, I'd take Pronger on my team any time. This guy's presence on the blue line gives a team a remarkable sense of confidence. No team likes to play against him. Plus, he's mean as nails. I sure hope the Habs pick more grittier players during the off season as not everyone is going to be as polite as the Caps and Pens. The Flyers did exactly what they had to, to win.
