The way they have the playoffs setup it shouldn't. The games can't end in a tie so no need to fix it.

I like the shoot out personally. Id much rather see that than a tie. A tie is a lame way to end a pro game.

Ummm there shouldn't be a tie. There should be overtime until someone wins. Period. I would at least like to see them make overtime a regular period length before they go to a shootout. Shootouts are a lame way to end a hockey game.

Huge error in that thought process. Do you realize how many games would go far too long? One, it's a regular season game. No way I want to be up until 1 AM on a Monday or Wednesday night watching a game if I have school at 8 AM the same morning. It's one thing to have epic long battles during the playoffs where each game brings you one step closer to eliminating the competition opposed to 82 games that by contrast are not as significant. Now lets look at it from a player's perspective. Two, hockey is not like baseball. Where you can get as fat as ____ and still produce a good season (see dough boy Kyle Wellwood and how he's doing)... hockey is one of the most cardiovascular trying sports in the world. Playing 82 games a season and another potential 28 in the playoffs is enough, but adding a big chunk to the already 60 minutes of regulation time is too much.

It's bad for marketing. Bad for those who want to get home with their families and get some much needed rest, and bad for the players who are getting burned out enough as it is.

As for the shootouts, you either go with them or you take the tie. Nuff' said. You have to pick which one and live with it. Unfortunately the shootout is the most quickest and logical solution to end a game with a definitive winner before it becomes too winded like my posts.

Unfortunately for the regular season variety we can't have our cake and eat it too. You either live with shootouts to decide a winner after 65 minutes of team-on-team action or you accept a sport that has games finishing in a tie. Love it or hate it but it's a simple fact.

Okay I misread your initial post. You meant one more additional 20 minute period. Okay, with a 15 minute intermission and with stoppages of play during that period you can add another hour of real time to the game. If we went with that logic, and there was still no decided winner, it would have to inevitably end in a shoot out to decide a winner, or it would end in a tie. Or we would have to go with what I said in my aforementioned post and play the game until a winner has been decided. Which could take a total of 2 to 3 games in one night. Heck no! So we're back to the drawing board. Love it or hate it, but you have to accept the shootout if you want no ties in regular season hockey.

In the end your plan of attack is to prolong the inevitable... which is pointless and worse than the setup we have now. And Ringer is a bigger goof for approving that theory. Silly Flyer fans.

Eli man, Wellwood has had a few decent seasons these last years, not great but better then guys 3x as in better shape then him.

He was great for us, i was a bit pissed to see him let go back then.

The only problem with that is that the regular season is 82 games long. Those guys would be dead come the end of the season. I would be ok with them making the OT period a normal length then shootout. To me the shootout is kind of exciting.

No matter how it ends in post regulation, the loser gets a point at least so, its fine by me keeping the shootout.

Hockey is too physically demanding to have continuous over time in the regular season.

Oh it's exciting. But I hate seeing a team lose because of it. That's where I am torn.

The guy still has one of the worst conditioning of any active NHLer. He's a softie. He came into the 2008 Canucks camp 30 lbs overweight.

With Kyle Wellwood's hands and vision (hockey IQ), he should be good for 30 goals and 70 points a season. He plays mostly PP time for a reason. He's basically a designated power play specialist. He's good in short spurts, but sputters shortly there after. You won't see much ES for this guy until his conditioning gets up there. What he has done 4 years ago and now are two different worlds. He's not the .88 PPG scorer he was back in 06/07.

Do you think if Kit or Bumblebutts had Ovie biting their butts they would openly accept it and let him continue on? I always wonder how far fans would go for the players they worship.

Right that part sucks but hey I'd rather lose than tie. :lol

Josh, it's nice to see you post in my hockey thread! Welcome to my humble abode. Kick back and use your feet to rest on my foot stool which also just so happens to be BadMoon. This is how he earns his beer money, by being living furniture for us real hockey fans. As we all know, Flyer fans aren't real hockey fans. :peace

I am thinking of getting a Freaks playoff pool together, which should be straight forward and easy. I want you to join. Maybe BM can too if he can shut his trap and be a good foot stool! :peace

Please show me a side by side? LOL! I have no ****s and am far better looking than Crosby. Hahahahahahaha!

I bet Crosby can get more ladies than you!

I also want to compete! I say Crosby wins based on how he can wave his big fat wad of cash around.
